From lorna: Will we ever see Faith again on Buffy? Please say yes.
I wish I could--and so do the producers. Apparently, they have this amazing Faith storyline just waiting for her, but Eliza Dushku has been so busy stockpiling movie roles she hasn't been able to commit.

From irishwars: You know what we Buffy fans want to hear! Buffy and Spike: What's the news?
Riley (with the new missus) is a major bump in the Spikey road--which leads up to the vamp's new tramp, whom he brings as a date to Anya and Xander's big day.

From bigpineapple: Which are better odds--getting struck by lightning in January or Tara not being the big Scooby death on Buffy?
Unless you're camping out under a redwood, I'd go for the latter.

Dead Things
* Warren, kidnaps his former girlfriend Katrina into being his willign slave. However when she fights their control, she ends up six feet under.
* The Troika frame Buffy for Katrina's murder.
* Spike's relationship with Buffy takes a rather violent turn when he attacks her.
Note: Certain episodes were shifted in order to accomidate Marc Blucas' episode. So this may be the evil thing that Warren does, only it will happen earlier than previously reported. When I know more I will let you know.

Older And Far Away
* Happy Birthday Buffy.
* Anya's demonic friend Halfrek, uses the Slayer's birthday as an opportunity to play on some of her fears towards humanity, and uses Dawn's irritability towards Buffy's behavior towards her as the vessel on which to do so.

As You Were
* Buffy is in for a shock when Riley returns to town with his demon hunting bride, leaving her to feel like her relationship with Spike isn't all that she thinks it is.
* Riley offers advice to Xander, whose nerves are getting a run for their money as the big day approaches.
* Buffy and Spike break up. (Note: Not to seem sarcastic but I told you it wouldn't last). Buffy wants to have a normal and loving relationship, something Spike can never give to her.

Episode 16
* Xander and Anya's big day has come.
* Xander has his hands full with relatives of both human and demonic natures set up camp at his house.
* D'Hoffyrn will be at the wedding.
* Halfrek takes it upon herself to test Xander's loyalties to Anya. Through deception, Xander gets a glimpse of the worse possible thing he could imagine his life with Anya could turn out to be. Upset he flees leaving Halfrek to break the news to the blushing bride.

Nice story of a fan encounter, with some spoilery ASH/Giles stuff towards the end. Courtesy of The Watcher Girls mailing list:

Okay - I think I've calmed down a touch now ...

A couple of weeks ago I wrote to ASH via his agents asking if he would give me
some background info on "Music for Elevators" that I could put on my website.
I forgot that I used my usual headed paper which includes my work telephone
number. Anyway, 1.50pm today the phone rang. A voice on the other end asked
"Is that Sandra Pascoe?" I thought - "oh god, I recognise that voice ... I bet
its the bloody bank manager." Imagine my shock when he laughed and said "It's
the tweedy book guy here!".

The voice was SO recognisable - sounded exactly like he did in the Steve Wright
Radio interview. He actually thanked me for the website! I couldn't get my
head around the fact that he'd not only looked at it but read the "Music for
Elevators" review I'd written - picking up on a couple of things I said and
explained about the "dead air" I'd complained about! He was chatting away
about the album and then said "You are writing this down, aren't you?" He
seemed to find it extremely funny when I said that I was shaking so much I
couldn't even hold a pen! Regarding the translation of the French song - he
said he'd rather a translation DIDN'T go on a website because it would "lessen
the effect" of the song - I said no problem (if he'd told me to go and jump off
the nearest cliff I wouldn't have hesitated!)

I did manage to get my senses together to ask a couple of questions about Buffy
S6 & 7, Ripper and Manchild .... spoilers below:

I asked ASH whether he would be in anymore Season 6 eps. His response was that
he's "supposed to be but doesn't really know as it's all confusing and up in
the air at the moment." He doesn't even know what's happening in the show as
he's been sent the episodes but hasn't had time to watch them yet!
Depressing - I asked whether he's signed for S7 and he replied that he's got no
idea at all what's going to happen with Season 7. Doesn't bode well, does it?
The good news is that he's already signed for a second season of "Manchild".
He said the first episode is slightly confusing but "stick with it". When I
assured him that "sticking with it" would be no problem it sent him into
another fit of giggles!

"Ripper" has definitely been delayed because of "Firefly/fox" (whatever its
called!). Apparently, Joss is doing the sci-fi one to keep Fox sweet because
he needs their co-operation to do Ripper. Something to do with licenses.
Apparently nothing like Ripper has ever been done before - not with the level
of co-operation needed between an American company and the good old BBC - who,
according to ASH, are majorly enthusiastic about it and prepared to wait until
doomsday if that's what it takes. He said it's brave of them because they had
their fingers majorly burnt over co-operation with a US company with "Dr Who".
As you can understand I was majorly wigged and funked during this call - I'll
probably remember bits and pieces throughout the next couple of weeks!

Interview with Marti Noxon in Dreamwatch (March 2002)

selected excerpts

Sex, violence and addiction .. It’s all in a day’s work for Buffy’s executive producer Marti Noxon.
Words: Andy Mangels

DW: Let’s talk about the arcs of this season.
MN: The Buffy arc has been very strong, just because I think she is learning to live again and learning to find her way in a world that now feels very, very strange to her. I think the progression of her relationship with Spike and everything is all about her trying to come back to the world of the living. The other part of her arc - and I think this is shared by the other characters on the show - is about growing up and facing adult responsibilities at the same time that they’re still figuring out who they are.
The absence of parental figures is making all of them have to face themselves in a new way. Xander getting married is kind of a confrontation with a bunch of adult responsibilities that he may or may not be prepared for. They’re all doing the same thing.

DW: Then you have the three villains.
MN: They try to choose a lifestyle that is all about evading responsibility. They’re using their special talents to try to do less, not more. We’ve tried to make that parallel evident, but I think it sometimes gets lost in their goofiness. Really, the point of them is that these guys are steadfastly refusing to grow up. They want to play video games and meet girls and really do little else. They’re going to use their smarts to try to figure out ways to get around regular jobs and regular lives.

DW: What about evil Willow?
MN: I don’t think of her as being genuinely evil, especially not at this point. Tara, she can use magic and she’s okay. But Willow is finding out she’s an addict, and what you do about that really defines who you are. If magic takes her to an evil, dark place, it’s really of her own making. A lot of times, the bad stuff that happens to a character is really external, and this season most of the characters are making their own problems.

DW: Is there a season-defining arc?
MN: I think that this season is different. We have sort of parallel storylines going on. I can promise you that they will all make sense as a single concept in the end. But it’s a little greyer. I enjoyed the clarity and cleanliness of stories you could do in high school - cheerleading or pressure from your parents - but the truth is that, as you get older, stuff isn’t quite as neat. I do think the show’s reflecting that. Also, just in terms of the ‘Big Bad’, I think that we had exhausted so many possibilities. We could not do another apocalypse.

MN: Amy has reappeared, and she’ll be part of the universe from time to time. We don’t have any plans for her beyond the episodes that she’s appeared in. I heard recently that [Eliza Dushku] would like to come back on the show sometime. We love her, so anytime we can get her...
Drusilla may come around again. She’d have some major feelings about what’s going on. There’s no plans in the works right now, but it’s something we’ve talked about. Giles is gone, but he’ll definitely pop up from time to time when Tony’s in America.

DW: What about Xander and Anya’s wedding?
MN: There’s going to be a big, big sweeps wedding. It’s going to be episode 16. We’ve often said that romance in Sunnydale never goes well for very long, but they have the best shot of being a happy couple I’d say, of all of them.

DW: Ten episodes have aired so far. What can you say about the second half of the year?
MN: There will probably only be two more episodes before the end of January. They’re both not going to move the storyline forward a whole lot. They’re stand-alones. Nick Mark directs the twelfth one. We won’t get to Buffy’s birthday until episode 14. We’re doing it late this year. Steven DeKnight just wrote an episode that will air in early February which is really dark.
You haven’t seen the last of Tara and Willow, that’s for sure. Tara is in 16 out of 22 episodes this year. And Spike and Buffy’s relationship is going to continue to progress and devolve.

DW: You’re writing the next-to-last episode of the season, part one of a two-parter. After that, what are you doing in the future?
MN: My contract is up at the end of this season, but we’re talking in earnest, so as far as I know, I’ll still be here. That’s my hope. Long-term, I have ideas for shows of my own, and I’m eager to pursue some of that, but I also am not going to walk away from the best creative partnership I’ve ever experienced in my life. As long as Joss Whedon will have me, I’m pretty much in camp.

A vampire slayer gets no respect, so why should her fans? DVDs of ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' have been available in Europe and Australia for years (VHS versions of season five are already on sale in the UK), yet America's slayer buffs had to wait until last week for season one to make its DVD debut. Not that they weren't thrilled, but why the delay? A spokesman at 20th Century Fox TV (the studio behind the UPN hit) cryptically blames ''different release patterns'' for the delay.

That's not much in the way of consolation -- then again, even ''Buffy'''s creators can't score DVDs. ''They don't send us copies,'' laughs executive producer Marti Noxon. ''And we have a pretty limited say as far as what episodes are released and when.'' Luckily, Noxon has plenty of say about everything else. She talked to EW.com about discarded storylines, steamy sex, and the new series that may one day fill ''Buffy'''s high heels.

EW: Now that the first season is out on DVD, can you tell us about storylines that never made the cut?
MN: Actually, there were a lot of things we were going to do and never did. More recently, in season four, Maggie (Lindsay Crouse) was going to be much more of a mother figure for Riley, introducing him to another girl to lure him away from Buffy. We thought it would create some Shakespearean jealousy, and then we went, ehhh, forget it. But most of the changes [throughout the series] have had to do with actors coming and going. We had a lot more planned for Seth Green (Oz), for example, but his departure [to do films] opened the door for Tara (Amber Benson), which was something we never expected. And there would have been far more Angel-Buffy angst if he hadn't gotten his own show.

EW: Speaking of Angel and Buffy, will there ever be another crossover? If David E. Kelly can jump networks [''Ally McBeal'' and ''The Practice''], why can't you?
MN: It's not gonna happen, and it's not only a contractual issue. Even if it boosted our ratings for one night, viewers might say, ''Hey, what about that Angel guy? I wonder what he's up to on that other network?'' which would be a problem for UPN. I don't think there's any bad blood, but I also don't think either UPN or the WB are looking to do each other a favor.

EW: Was Sarah Michelle Gellar's haircut really a big deal?
MN: No, not really. She came to us and said she wanted to do it, and we were fine with that. It's not like our audience is completely attached to the hair. And I like it. I think it makes her look kinda kicky.

EW: This has to be the raciest season of ''Buffy'' yet. How are you getting away with Spike and Buffy's more explicit moments, including allusions to oral sex?
MN: You can't get around the fact that the ideas are really nasty, but the actual content hasn't been. We've had less nudity this year than last, except for Spike, but no one's complaining about that. It's just because the nature of Buffy's relationship with Spike is much more sexual than her past relationships, and it's not about cuddly sex, either. I think the censors understand that if you're a kid of a certain age, you're not going to get it. And if you're old enough to get it, then, well, you get it. But I'm sure we have some challenges ahead, because it's not going to get less sexy for a while.

EW: What can you tell us about ''Buffy'' creator Joss Whedon's new Fox series, ''Firefly''?
MN: It's basically a science fiction western. The show takes place in the wake of a universal civil war in which the government wanted to unite all of the planets into one federation. The government won, so the guys on our ship, who fought for independence, are cruising the periphery of the universe where some of the planets still haven't been reached by the government. They aren't heroes; they do a lot of salvage work and odd jobs, some of which aren't so legal. But it's not like most sci-fi shows where everything's in black and white. The government isn't all bad, but they do some bad stuff. There's a cool ship and there's going to be nifty hardware, but the goal is to make all the characters' emotional lives totally real. We're focusing on their struggles, not a guy with a gorgon on his templok or something.

EW: So Joss has ''Buffy,'' ''Angel,'' ''Firefly,'' an animated version of ''Buffy,'' and the BBC ''Buffy'' spin-off ''Ripper'' on his plate. When does his head explode?
MN: He doesn't need the same things other humans need, like rest or bad television, damn him. And the thing is, there's another show in the offing that he and I and ''Angel'' producer David Greenwalt are planning for next season. But it's possible that ''Ripper'' might be delayed because of ''Firefly.''

EW: There's a rumor going around that another one of the main characters on ''Buffy'' is going to die. How do you deal with leaks?
MN: I can't comment on the rumor. We used to get really upset and send out fake spoilers so people would be confused, and we still do, sometimes, but we can't plug all the holes. We try not to pay too much attention, because it just makes you crazy.

EW: Now that Buffy's in her 20s, do you see a series end in sight?
MN: I was joking with a friend that one day we'll be doing Xander versus the love handles monster. Let us stop before it gets lame! If key members don't want to continue we won't. Every year we think, this could be it, but every year we continue to feel enthused about it, and it just keeps going.

Got the new stuff *bg*
Nothing new, but actual dialogue of the scene where they find out Spike is the one behind the eggs. (Episode 15..I think)
quote:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is what the script says
Spike comes down after Buffy and Riley to the egg covered room
Spike: I can explain
Riley: We need more weapons. Spike screwed up. You didn't keep em frozen did you Doctor?
Spike: You can stop calling me that anytime
(to Buffy)
If I may: The thing of it is I'm holding these for a friend, who....
Buffy punches Spike hard, bloodying his nose and sending him to the ground.
Buffy: No more games, Spike.
Spike gets furiously pissed off. Yells
Spike: That's bloody funny coming from you? No games?
That's all you've ever done is play me and keep playing with rules you make up as you like. You know what I am, you've always known yet you come to me just the same!

Posted by Steve DeKnight on the Bronze Beta on 2-1-02

Bullseye: Battlin’ Jack Murdock never misses a PBP. But since he’ll be writing episode 19 right smack in the middle of it, he might look a wee sleepy.

Bethia: Buffy’s going to start being nicer to Spike when he stops being an evil dead vampire guy with a chip in his head making him play nice. He’s evil, I tells ya! Evil! Seriously, it’s a complicated relationship. These things take time. Sometimes they end well, sometimes you get a stake in the heart.

Wend: Four more eps to break till the end, including mine.

Wendy: I’m sure gonna try to make it to the Succubus Club the day after Dead Things. But I’m gearing up to write ep. 19, which starts filming Feb. 22, so I’m not a hundred percent sure.

Join me in the Crypt of Decryption:

First, I have an anonymous report of the episode 17 episode title: Normal Again. In addition, this source says that the bridesmaid dresses are green with ruffles. As of yet, this source is unconfirmed, but I suppose we'll know soon enough!

The ever-helpful Steve DeKnight confirms the shooting schedule for me. And the Dreamwatch interview with Marti Noxon indicates that Noxon will be writing episode 21, which strongly suggests that Joss Whedon will write the season finale. Right now only episodes 18 and 20 are up in the air, and I'll take a guess that Jane Espenson will be writing one of those, and David Fury the other.

Noxon's comments also suggest that the pre-emption of BtVS on February 19 may have taken the ME writers by surprise, as they seem to have planned episode 16, Xander and Anya's wedding, as the sweeps-ending episode.

isabelle adds a few more details regarding episode 15 and a confrontation involving Spike and Buffy and Riley over the demon eggs Riley is after. I have compiled a brief summary of what is known of episode 15 and am adding it to today's update.

Finally, we are approaching a key time in the season with regards to a spoiler I posted on December 11 concerning a possible character death. Click here to read about how I came to post this spoiler and what I plan to do if the character death is not confirmed by the end of episode 17.
