Disclaimer: I admit I don’t own Buffy…duh!

Note: Sorry for not updating sooner I was working on ‘Reunion’ [please read that] thank you littlewiccan for reviewing and of course review! I won’t update as fast unless I know if people actually like it!

“Summer’s!” Spike called out to a very avoid-y Buffy who kept walking to her next class pretending to not hear him.

Ever since the party she hadn’t said a word to him [not even an insult!] Not being one to give up easily [or take a hint apparently] Spike pulled Buffy’s turtleneck clad arm leading her into an empty classroom.

“What the hell are you doing?” Buffy yelled, “Not what I the reaction I wanted but it’s something,” Spike thought.

“You’ve been avoiding me,” Spike growled.

“Have not,” Buffy argued weakly, but seeing the look on his face she decided not to lie, “Okay maybe a teensy bit.”

It took all his self control not to kiss her she looked so cute when she argued [even though she knew he was right.]

“Why?” He asked anger being replaced by fear, “What, did I do something wrong?” He thought not letting any fear show to her though.

“Nothing it’s just…” Hesitating she blurted out everything without thinking, “Anya said you liked me and I didn’t believe her so I asked Willow and she said the same thing. Then you helped me at the party and I got very confused so I didn’t talk o you in case Anya and Willow are right.”

Even though she was talking really fast Spike heard every word.

“Red and Anya were right, I’m in love you.”

“What? No!”

“Why is that so hard to bloody believe?” Spike exclaimed, he had his heart on a silver platter in front of her and she was angry!

“Because you hate me!”

“No I don’t!”

“Well then you’re a great actor, Spike come on. You’ve been here for three years and now you like me? Why now?”

Without waiting for an answer Buffy turned around to leave until Spike’s hand clasped her wrist.

“Let go of me,” She ordered through gritted teeth.

“No, not until you answer me, do I have a chance with you?”

At that she laughed bitterly before turning to face him her eyes cold and hard, “The only chance you had with me was when I was unconscious!”

“You’re beneath me,” the words came from her mouth almost as if she was trying to convince herself.

Turning around Buffy left, Spike’s mangled heart followed.

Eventually things for Spike and Buffy went back to normal; well as normal as you could be when everything is different.

They still fought, but it was mechanical, staged, they did it so no one would notice their relationship was different. Though she wouldn’t admit it, to him or anyone else, she missed him

She missed arguing with him, she missed him bugging her, and she missed the smooshy feeling she got when she was with him. But she was to proud to admit it, she had been hurt to many times, so pretending was the only option.

All thoughts of Spike were pushed out of her head when she looked at the calendar and took in what the date meant, the most dreaded day of the year, her birthday.

Buffy stormed into school, she was on the warpath, and anyone in her way would feel her wrath. Of course the only person who got in her way was the only person who used an excessive amount of bleach.

Buffy was striding down the hall talking to Faith Evans, the school slut. Faith was Buffy’s opposite; in personality and looks some people even said she used to be a stripper.

Today though Buffy looked like Faith’s sister; dark smoky makeup, complimented the large amount of leather on her body.

“B, you coming Bronzing tonight? A little fun for our birthday girl,” Faith grinned wickedly.

“Damn straight! I’ll probably get ‘sent to my room’ around eight, I’ll sneak out and meet you out front,” Buffy replied offhandedly.

“Damn B, you really think you can piss them off that fast?”

“Faith, I know I can piss them off that fast, had enough years of experiences,” Buffy answered flippantly, Faith laughed.

“See you tonight, B.”

“Yeah you too.”

Buffy rounded the corner to get to her math class when Spike blocked her way, “Since when did you hang out with, ‘Easy lay Faith’?”

“It’s none of you of your freaking business! And don’t call her that!” Buffy hissed, her voice filled with even more venom then Spike had ever heard from her.

“I’m making it my business,” Spike grabbed Buffy’s retreating arm.

Buffy looked up at Spike, her charcoal smeared eyes stony, and leaned in to him so he could hear her breathing and whispered into his ear, “Screw. You.”

She pulled back and walked down the hall as Willow threw him in a closet.

“Thought you were into girls Red,” Spike smirked.

Willow’s gaze was cold, “What, Were you doing out there.”

“Me? She was the one being bloody high and mighty!” Spike’s temper started to flare at the red head.

“For someone whose supposed to be in love with my best friend, you are completely dense about her.”

“What do you sodding mean!”

“Do you have any idea what today is?” Willow snapped coolly.

“It’s Buffy’s bloody birthday, so?”

“You know Buffy’s parents are divorced, right?” Willow asked briskly, Spike nodded.

“They got divorced because Buffy’s Dad cheated on her Mom,” Spike nodded irritated, he knew all this.

“So every year Hank comes to visit Buffy on her birthday,” Willow continued, Spike looked indifferent.

“And every year he brings along one of his trashy girlfriends, and every year his ‘date’ is more slutty and stupid then the last one.”

Spike looked horrified at this but Willow wasn’t done yet,

“So Buffy screams at her father, telling him what he deserves in my opinion, and is grounded. Then she sneaks out her window and hangs out with Faith the whole night, and we all know what a great influence Faith is,” Willow added sarcastically.

“We call her ‘The Slayer’ when she gets like this. Last year her younger cousin Dawn came with her, then this senior Glory attacked her in the alley,
Buffy beat her up so badly she couldn’t talk for weeks. So what I’m trying to say is, give her some slack, she’s hurting really bad. Here endeth the lesson,” Willow finished gravely.

Spike didn’t say anything for a minute taking in all the new information, “I didn’t know,” he said softly.

“Well now you do,” Willow replied gently, leaving the closet.

Spike leaned against the wall and groaned, why did he have to be in love with an emotional pinball machine?
