Part Eleven
Buffy slide out the side door before anyone saw her. She silently shut the door when someone grabbed her from behind; she tried to fight back until the person bit the back of her neck and laughed as he let her go.
Buffy rubbed her neck, “Dammit Angel that really hurt.”
Angel shook his head and grabbed her in a hug, “Sorry baby, but you seemed so scared that someone was going to catch you that I had to tease you.”
Buffy smiled, grabbed Angel’s tee and pulled him closer, “Jackass,” then she kissed him.
The kiss went on for a few minutes before Buffy let him go smirking.
“Okay, if pissing you off makes you kiss like that I’ll have to do it more often.”
Buffy giggled, “So you said that you had a surprise for me?”
Angel just smiled and took Buffy’s hand. He led her around back of the Bronze where a limo was waiting.
“Oh my god Angel, how the hell did you afford this?”
Angel laughed, “I really really owe my parents after this one, but hey it’s your last year as a teen, right? Come on; as much as I love to stand out here at night we really only have till midnight and I want to show you your gift.”
Buffy and Angel climbed into the limo and sat down on the leather seats. Angel opened the mini-bar, pulled out two Pepsis, and handed one to Buffy.
Buffy raised her eyebrows, “What no champagne?”
Angel laughed, “Yeah right, my parents would kill me and then the limo company.”
“Oh, well, I don’t want you dead, I happen to like you alive you’re much cuter that way.”
“Good because I like being alive too.”
Buffy snuggled closer to Angel, “So where are we going?”
“You’ll see.”
Buffy pouted, “Tell me please,” Buffy leaned closer and kissed Angel playfully.
Angel smiled and kissed Buffy back, “As tempting as that is the answer is still no. We’re almost there anyway so finish your pop.”
Buffy sat back and pretended to be mad while slowly sipping on her pop. She looked out the window and stared at the trees passing by the limo. Buffy frowned when they reached the old Crawford Mansion.
“Why are we here?”
Angel stepped out as the driver opened the door and held his hand out for Buffy, “You’ll see,” Angel lead Buffy up to the front door and into the living room, “I decided when I was around ten that one day I would buy this place. I’ve always been attracted to it for some reason. When my parents divorced I would come here to find peace, I realize that that may sound stupid but it’s the truth.”
Buffy ran her hand along Angel’s cheek, “That’s not stupid it’s actually kinda romantic,” she lead him to the great fireplace and sat on the hearth, “I would always find Faithie when I needed to find peace. She’s my anchor through everything, I know that she’ll always be there somewhere over my shoulder.”
Angel nodded, “I think I actually understand that but in a way I never will because the connection you two have is really deep, but I hope that we have a deep connection too.”
Buffy nodded, “We do Angel, can’t you feel it? I’ve always known since I sat on that empty stool in bio. If this is my present it’s really good, I like talking just like this.”
Angel smirked and reached into his pocket, “That is part of it, this is the other,” he pulled out a ring box and opened it.
“Oh Angel it’s beautiful!”
“My grandmother gave it to me when I turned sixteen. She said that it was for the woman I choose. It’s called a Claddagh ring, back on Ireland they were given as engagement rings. The hands mean friendship, the crown means loyalty, and the heart means love. One thing that is very important is that I am not giving you this as an engagement ring but more of a promise ring that one day will become an engagement ring,” Angel slipped the ring onto Buffy right ring finger.
Buffy smiled as tears rolled down her cheeks, “I think I’m going to cry.”
Angel smiled, “You already are baby.”
Buffy smiled, “I don’t know what to say, this is the best gift in the world. Thank you.”
Angel stood up and took Buffy’s hand to pull her as well, “We have to start heading back to the Bronze since it’s almost 11:30 and we lose the limo in a half hour.”
They walked back outside and Angel helped Buffy into the limo. The ride back to the Bronze was quiet expect for Buffy’s little sniffs. They were curled together in the back of the limo just enjoying each other presence. Buffy kept sneaking glances at the ring to make sure that everything that had just happened was real and not some perversion of her imagination.
“It’s really there Buffy and I promise that it won’t disappear anytime soon.”
“It just seems so surreal and I don’t want to wake up.”
The limo stopped outside the Bronze and the driver opened the door to let them out. Angel and Buffy headed for the side door that Buffy originally snuck out of. Once inside they headed to the dance floor and just danced slowly enjoying the fact that they were together.
