Slayer Rising

Amanda woke up slowly. It had been days since she had had a good nights rest and she didn’t want to waste it. She glanced at the clock on her bedside between the tangle of pillows and blankets she found herself tangled in. 12:30. Her eyes flew wide open. She couldn’t believe she had slept so long! She wasn’t much of a morning person anyway, but wow! She yawned and rubbed sleep from her eyes. “Time to get up.” She said to herself, and began dragging herself out of bed.
Some of the girls in Gideon’s group had lent her some street clothes so she finally had something else to wear. She wore a black shirt and a jean jacket with some regular jeans. Today she would head off to pick up some new clothes and equipment she thought she would need as a Slayer on her first “assignment.” She headed into the shower and stripped. She said a silent prayer of thanks to whoever was listening that this old hotel still had warm water. She finally got to bathe for the first time in days.
As the almost scolding water poured over her body, Amanda thought about what had happened after rejoining the group the night before. The group had been very nice to her, which surprised her due to her somewhat rude welcome. Almost immediately upon being re-introduced to the group by Gideon, Amanda had found herself swarmed with people shaking her hand, patting her on the back, and after they had learned about her involvement in the battle with the demon, asking her questions about her skills, strength, and fighting style. She had blushed and told them she had had only a little training and most of it had just been instinct.
Sammy had even come up to her afterwards and apologized, explaining how stressed out he had been at the moment. “We just came off a bad deal with some people who we were trying to get to help us, but it turned out they were vamps. Me and Ralph had just gotten back from their place after they tried ‘killin us, when you showed up. But that’s no excuse.” Amanda had accepted his apology and he explained that he would fix up her bike as an apology. It turned out that Sammy was one of the gang’s mechanics.
As the night had gone on, she had pulled Gideon aside and informed of the fact that she had received little training. “Don’t worry,” Gideon had said, “You know more than most of the people here.” He had smiled, “I am afraid you have now become the beacon of hope to our small band here.” She remembered him saying, chuckling. She had smiled shyly, and told him she would do her best.
Now, here she was, finishing her shower and getting ready to begin her first day as the Brasepoint Vampire Slayer.

Amanda found herself greeted by many friendly “hellos” and somewhat sarcastic but good-natured “mornings” as she entered the sewer linked meeting hall. She smiled back and greeted several of them before Gideon approached. He looked as if he had been up all night.
“Amanda. Good afternoon, I trust you slept well?” He said a tired, lopsided grin on his face.
Amanda smiled shyly in response. “Sorry, I barley slept at all the last three days.” She looked around at the others, some were resting on the old furniture that surrounded the place, some were reading, and some were readying weapons. “Something up?”
Gideon nodded. “We’re going to go bust the vampire nest on Orange Street. I’ve chosen some of the more experienced and older members to assist me. Would you like to come with us? I am sure we could learn a lot from your fighting style.” He asked, grinning.
“Fighting style?” She meekly. “I don’t know if I have a ‘fighting style,’ I just go by reflexes mostly…”
“Ah, come on, it will be a chance for all of us to see how you fight!” Gideon pushed.
“Well, alright. But shouldn’t you have someone here in case we get attacked again?”
Gideon shook his head. “Demons rarely ever find their way down here, well, except for yesterday’s incident, mostly vampires. But they will only attack at night.” He turned and nodded toward a young man training with some of the other kids. “That’s Ryan, my second in command. He’ll hold down the fort until we get back.”
“Oh, well, alright than, I guess I could try showing you guys a thing or two..."She said, none to confident in her abilities.
“All right than, it’s settled.” Gideon said, smiling. He motioned her towards a large box filled with weapons. “What’s your pleasure?” He asked after she followed him to the weapons box.
Amanda looked inside. Axes, crossbows, swords of many different types, daggers, and several stakes. “I think I’ll go for the good ‘ol classic.” She said as she picked up three stakes. She held one in her hand while she put the other two in loops in her belt. She also picked out a vial of holy water and reached into her pockets to retrieve her cross. She put the cross around her neck and put the vial in her belt.
Gideon and Amanda started to head out; Gideon holding the same axe he had wielded the day before. As they walked out into the daylight once again, Sammy approached her. “Hey Amanda, fixed up your bike. Good as new!” He said, wiping grease from his hands with a rag.
Amanda smiled in response. “Thanks. Though I’m not sure how often I’m going to use it. Don’t really have the money to pay for the gas at the moment.”
Sammy grinned. “Don’t worry about that, we have some… sources where we get gas real cheap.”
Amanda narrowed her eyes. “Oh really?”
“Yeah, don’t worry, it’s nothing illegal. Why don’t you take her with you for the hunt?”
Amanda rolled her eyes. “How come vehicles are always referred to with feminine titles?” She looked at her bike. “From now on my bike is a he!"
“Yes ma’am!” Sammy said, snapping to a mock salute. “The bike, erm, he, wasn’t in very good shape when you brought him here in the first place, but I added some of my ‘persona’ touches, and, well, I think you’ll be pleased at how things turned out.” Sammy finished, handing her helmet to her.
“Thanks, I’ll let you know how he runs!” She said, taking the helmet and fishing for her keys.
“Hey Amanda! You coming or not?” She heard Gideon call from a van hidden in the bushes. She had completely forgotten that he had been standing beside him! He must have kept going to herd people into the van.
“I’m taking my bike!” Amanda called back, putting on her helmet and starting the engine. “I’ll follow!”
Gideon nodded and swung into the van. Soon he was off down the road, with Amanda in pursuit.

Amanda pulled off her helmet, shaking some of the sweat out of her hair. It had been surprisingly humid in the plastic covering protecting her head this time. Perhaps it was just hotter in Brasepoint? She shook the thought from her head and looked up at their destination: An old, abandoned library. “Why do the undead always hang out in abandoned places?” She wondered.
“All right, team leaders are me, Cooper, and Amanda.” Gideon was saying to the small assortment of young men and women standing in front of the parked van as Amanda jogged up.
“You want me to be a leader? Are you sure? I’m not really experienced much in leader, I’m more of a follower, I’m definitely- “Amanda started.
“I’m sure you’ll do fine Amanda.” Gideon said, smiling. “Kelly, Jack, and Amy, you’re with Amanda. Tillian, Joey, Roy, you’re with Cooper. Rob, Cynthia, Lucas, with me.” He turned and looked at the massive library. “Our boys yesterday counted about 12 vamps, but there will probably be more. There are two side entrances,” Gideon said, pointing to the sides of the building. “And one main entrance. City plans say there is no basement or any type of sewer access. These guys only move at night, so we can expect all of them to be there and we don’t have to worry about one slipping out.”
Gideon gestured towards the windows, which looked darker than they should have been. “It looks like they’ve boarded up the windows or they were boarded up before the vamps came in. Anyway, knock those down to stop them more effectively, if you have time. I was here when this library was open, and trust me, it’s big. Two stories and an attic for storage.” He continued, looking up where there were obviously more rooms.
“Amanda, take the right entrance, Cooper, left, I’m going in the main. They can’t escape either way, but a pincer attack will work to our advantage.” Amanda noticed that her three “co-slayers” were now all around her. She remembered meeting Kelly the night before. He was a strong young man with a hint of a goatee. He held a mace. Jack and Amy she had never met, but she assumed Jack was the guy in the leather jacket with a short sword and Amy was the blonde holding a long stake, the kind Amanda had used during her battle with the Turok-Han.
“Before we go, remember, take care of each other. If you’re next to another team that needs help, help them. I hope to see you all back at the van when I give the clear signal. I’m on channel 23.” He said, and Amanda saw noticed Jack taking out a radio from his jacket and handing it to her. “Used one of these before?” He asked.
Amanda smiled. “I think I can figure it out.” Sure enough, once she had played with the switches for a few seconds, she had figured out how it had worked.
Gideon waited until Amanda had figured out how to operate the radio, and than continued. “All right ladies and gentlemen, let’s get on it.” Cooper, the tall, dark skinned young leader of the other team, let out a battle cry, holding his long sword into the air before jogging down to the left entrance, his team members following close behind. Amanda smirked at his gusto before running toward the other entrance with her team.
“He always says that.” A female voice sounded next to her when she arrived at the door. She turned and saw the blonde, Amy.
“Says what?” Amanda asked as she tried the side entrance. Locked, of course.
“That he hopes to see us all back at the van, it never happens though.” Amy finished.
“Don’t worry; just stay close to me honey.” Kelly said behind her, grinning.
“Oh, shut up! You know I’m right!” Amy snapped back.
“Ok, yelling and flirting, not productive.” Amanda said as she stepped back and than kicked the door down. “Come on, just stay close, I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
Kelly smirked, Amy pouted, and Jack rolled his eyes. “Just stay together.” Amanda said, leading them into the library. The musty scent of old books licked at her sense as she walked in. Ah, she hadn’t been in a library in a very long time. Not that she didn’t like to read, she had just always preferred to buy the books she liked rather than get them from a library. That way, she could read them whenever she wanted and not have to worry about some snot nosed kid ruining her favorite copy of a particular book at the library.
As they continued through the library, the musty scent disappeared and was soon replaced by a very familiar scent. An odor she had not experienced since the battle with the Turok-Han, except that the scent was far worse in the Hellmouth than it was here. But still… the smell of decay was rampant here. Amanda led her team through the “children’s section,” weary of any movement, when one of the shelves started to fall towards them.
“Everybody DOWN!” Amanda cried, shoving Kelly out of the way as he started to enter, who in turn fell against Amy, who was knocked off balance and to the floor. “Help!” Amanda heard her scream, and saw two hands grab her around her chest, and neck and start to drag her away. In only that brief second, Amanda had gotten out of the way of the self, back on her feet, and flung a stake through the air, the blunt side striking Amy’s attacker in the head, causing him to fall back in pain.
Amanda heard a curse from the vampire as he released Amy and rubbed his forehead in pain. Amanda noticed a good sized bruise left behind by the weapon. Amy grasped her weapon that was lying nearby, turned and rammed it through the chest of the vampire, dusting it instantly.
“Good hit Amy!” Amanda cried a smile on her face. She saw more movement several shelves over. At least three separate figures. She also noticed Gideon’s team coming toward them from the middle. Amanda leapt onto a nearby bookshelf herself and ran across it. She leapt into a flying kick, knocking one of the vampires back into another.
After drawing another stake out of her jacket, she dusted the first vampire in one swift motion. The other crawled away from her, fear in its eyes after being covered in the ashes of its fallen friend. Amanda wasted no time putting the second vampire out of its misery. She smiled and turned for the third she had seen.
When she ran out from behind the bookshelf, she found Gideon fighting it one on one while the other three members of his group grappled with vampires of their own. The fiend that Gideon was fighting was wielding a sword. Gideon parried with his axe, and went for a blow of his own, which was deflected by the vampire, who seemed quite skilled with his own blade. Amanda rushed to help.
“No!” Gideon shouted after seeing Amanda. “Help the others!” Amanda nodded and went to help the other three combatants. She glanced behind her and saw her own group was under siege by four vampires. Kelly seemed to be doing quite well with his mace, taking on two at once, while Amy and Jack fought the other two one on one.
Amanda rushed to a large vampire in a motorcycle jacket with dark hair raising a spear-like weapon in the air, about to strike something on the ground. Amanda gasped when he saw a pale young woman bleeding on the floor, about to be impaled on the vampire’s spear. She kicked the blade out of the way and with a follow up kick, knocked the vampire back with a blow to the chest.
The vampire roared in rage, letting his demonic visage be shown and thrust towards Amanda, hoping to impale her instead. Amanda dodged the blow and grabbed the spear, twisting and pulling, trying to get it out of his hand. The vampire was strong, so Amanda decided to bring the little tug of war to an end. Raising her left arm, she struck the spear, breaking it in two. The vampire was surprised by the sudden absence of pressure from its broken spear, and Amanda used that surprise to plunge the broken end of the spear into his chest, turning him into harmless vapor.
“Amanda!” Amanda stood and turned; ready to leap back into action. She was surprised to see Gideon standing close to her, pointing toward out the front door. “I’ll take things over from here. Cooper said there were four more that escaped in a tinted van, they were hiding in the shade, we must have missed them coming in!”
“I’m on it.” Amanda said, and ran out the front door just in time to see the van speeding out of the parking lot. She immediately jumped on her bike, started the engine, and sped after it, leaving a splash of dirt and gravel in her wake.
The van pulled onto the highway that led out of town. Amanda knew the route, as she had just been there yesterday. She roared after the van. She wasn’t wearing her helmet so her long hair blew everywhere, making it hard to see. As she sped up her hair finally went back into a straight line, staying out of her face. It was than that Amanda realized the only weapon she had left was a single stake.
She shook her head, embarrassed at her mistake and sped up until she was side by side with the van. The van swerved, trying to push her off the road. The driver obviously knew what she intended. She reacted quickly and broke left and hit the brake that sent the van zooming past her. She got behind it and decided to follow it.
The van suddenly stopped and swerved as the vampires hit the brakes in an attempt to make her slam into the back of the van, but Amanda immediately realized what they were trying to do and instead broke hard right so she sped ahead of the van. They were only going about 10 miles an hour now, so Amanda slowed to a crawl and leapt off her bike in the middle of the freeway.
She landed on the hood belly first, used both hands to balance herself, than spun and directed a powerful kick that shattered the tinted windshield. The van lurched forward as the vampire who was driving turned into dust in response to the sunlight. Amanda slid in through the windshield to face a second vampire, a woman this time, while the van slowed to a stop. The female vampire took a swing at Amanda as she straightened herself out.
Not expecting it, Amanda took the blow full force in her face, but immediately reached out and grabbed her arm out of reflex. She pulled the female vampire forward and tossed her through the broken windshield. Smiling at her reaction time, which she was still getting used to, she turned toward the back in search of the final vampire.
A very familiar growl rang out and Amanda felt something hit her in the face, hard. “No… it couldn’t be…” she whispered and when she turned toward her attacker her fears were confirmed: A Turok-Han. “What are you doing here?” she asked, not really expecting a response. As she thought, it responded by leaping on her and running a claw down her face while it’s other claw wrapped into a fist and slammed into her ribcage.
She let out a cry of pain and lifted her knee up hard to strike its own ribs, than used the momentum to shove the beast off her. It stumbled back a few feet as she got to her feet, her fists close to her face in a fighting stance. She launched a kick toward the Turok-Han, which it ducked under and tried to charge her. She would have been knocked over had she not followed up her fist kick with a roundhouse that caught the ubervamp by surprise under its chin. It fell onto its back and Amanda leapt over it and ran to the back window, where she shattered it with her bare hand.
Bright sunlight poured through the broken window as the Turok-Han tried to get up, but it was too late for the ancient vampire; the bright light turned it to dust. Amanda gasped with relief and fell into one of the chairs in the rather large van. She brushed her hair out of her eyes and felt some dampness. Sweat? No, as she brought her hand down she saw the crimson of her own blood. She checked the mirror and saw several long scratches on her face. “They aren’t bad, I’m sure I’ll live.” She thought.
She smirked at the thought of brushing something aside that would have terrified her a few months ago. “All part of being a Slayer.” She said aloud, than stepped out of the van. She looked around the area. She had thought she was still in the middle of the freeway, but the van had swerved off the road and slowed to a stop only a few inches before the guardrail. “Lucky…” she said, trying not to imagine what it would have been like had the van plowed directly into the guardrail.
She looked around for her bike, but grimaced when she finally saw it. Her bike, however, did not stop before striking the guardrail after she leapt off. She examined it. The front tire was bent and the handlebars were crushed. Hopefully Sammy could fix it.
Finally determining she wasn’t going to drive out of here, Amanda picked up her radio. She would have to report the Turok-Han as well; she wondered what it meant, why it was here… “Gideon? You’re never going to believe this…”

Ten minutes later Amanda had arrived back at the library. Lucas, one of the guys from Gideon's team had driven to her in the van and, after they got the bike in, was headed back to the library. Amanda learned from Lucas that the battle had not gone well soon after she had left. Another large group of vampires had been discovered in the attic. Three were wounded, though not seriously, while two were dead. Lucas said Gideon was starting to gain the upper hand when she had left, though he didn't know what to expect when they arrived back at the battle zone.
Amanda leapt from the van, stake in hand, before Lucas even brought it to a complete stop, charging toward the library entrance. She ran through the open double doors and stopped at what she saw in the lobby. Five vampires, all armed, were facing off again three people: Gideon, Cooper, and Tillian, who were also armed. But what surprised Amanda the most is when she saw the middle vampire. He was holding Amy by the neck, sneering at Gideon and the other two warriors.
"Back off human, or I'll snap her like a twig!" The middle vampire rasped, apparently the leader of the group. Amy shook in fear. "Believe me; I can kill her before you three can get to me!"
"Three?!" thought Amanda, than she realized, "he doesn't see me yet!" Amanda ducked behind a nearby bookshelf to her left and, putting her stake in her mouth, she began to crawl along the library floor, trying to get behind the five vampires. As she crawled behind another self and headed for the young adult section, she heard Gideon's response. "Let her go, fiend! We're going to kill you either way, at least die with some honor!" "Now, now Gideon... don't make him too mad... just give me a few more seconds..." she thought, continuing her trek across the floor of the library.
She finally came to the back wall and, after removing the stake from her mouth, peeked up over the shelf. She was directly behind the middle vampire! She looked hard at the stake in her hand. It than occurred to her that she should have put more thought into this, as she wasn't nearly close enough the vampire. She knew there was a chance she could throw the stake directly into the vampires back... but she had never thrown anything like this before, and wasn't sure how accurate it would be. And if she screwed it up like last time it could mean Amy's life. She turned as the vampire said something else, something that she didn't catch, but he was now lifting Amy several inches off the ground.
Amanda arched her hand, realizing she had little choice but to attempt it. Concentrating on her target, she took a deep breath. She studied the vampires back, shaping in her mind where the heart was and the organs attached to it. Zeroing in on that position, she threw the little stake with all her might. The vampire jerked in surprise, and than turned to dust. "Amy, run!" Amanda called out as she got to her feet. The other four vampires turned toward her as Amy dived to safety, just as she had hoped. The three monster hunters attacked the surviving vampires, but that left one more that leapt for Amanda. After looking at its face, she suddenly grew very concerned. This one didn't look like the others, he looked... older, somehow, and he wielded an ugly jagged sword.
Amanda stepped back a few feet as the vampire took a swing toward her face and missed by too few inches. Another quick swing, Amanda ducked under the second cut and swept her legs hard in an attempt to knock the vampire’s feet out from under it. The creature leapt over the sweep and cut down hard toward Amanda's shoulder, but it slammed into carpet as she rolled out of the way and swung a kick that knocked the beast across its chin. When she rolled back to her feet, she was surprised to see she had done little to stop the creature's assault as it swung its blade toward her knees. Amanda jumped over the blade and onto a nearby shelf. She launched a kick at the vampire’s face that sent him into a nearby shelf. She ran across the tops of the bookshelves as the vampire tried to recover from his fall. Amanda had just reached him when he swung the blade again, trying to knock her feet off, but she leapt over the swing and delivered a kick of her own. The vampire ducked the blow than swung his free arm at Amanda's other leg, knocking her down flat on her back on the bookshelf.
Amanda gasped in shock as the wind was knocked out of her. Her eyes widened with terror as the vampire lifted his blade once again and shoved it into her side, pinning her into the bookshelf. Amanda cried out in pain as the jagged blade impaled her. She felt warmth began to spread through her insides and her shirt becoming damp, as time seemed to slow down. The vampire still gripped the handle and he violently twisted it, causing Amanda to scream in agony. She turned and looked into the vampire's eyes as he began to laugh, than sighed in relief as his laughter was cut short as she watched his head leave his body and both turned to dust before her eyes. Gideon replaced his axe to its holster and ran over to Amanda.
"G-gideon... get it out of m-me..." Amanda said, voice breaking from the pain.
"Hold still..." he said and put both hands around the sword hilt, and with one quick move he tore the blade out of the shelf and out of Amanda. The last thing Amanda remembered was Gideon taking her in his arms just before she blacked out.

She was on stage again. She was standing before a massive audience that seemed to go on forever. She sang and danced and performed feats she never thought she could perform before. She flipped and spun until she got dizzy, but the audience seemed unaffected. They all sat still with their arms crossed with completely neutral looks on their faces. They couldn't care either way it seemed. No matter what she did, she couldn't get a reaction out of the endless sea of spectators.
She twirled again and came face to face with a vampire! Not just any vampire, this one looked... familiar. He held a sickly looking sword that also seemed familiar to her. Wasn't she just...? No, she couldn't remember. She didn't have time to think about it as the vampire suddenly attacked, sword swinging horizontally, trying to take her head off. She ducked under the blade and landed on her hands and knees. She used the momentum to lift herself on her hands and swing the lower part of her body as hard as she could into the vampire’s legs. She heard a surprised grunt as the vampire fell onto his back, dropping the wicked looking sword. She danced to her feet and ran to retrieve the sword. She turned and saw the vampire coming after her, snarling, its demonic face showing. It was almost upon her when she picked up the blade. The vampire stopped in its tracks when it saw she had the weapon and began to back off. Wasting no time Amanda lunged toward the beast, twirling the blade in her hand like an expert swordswoman. The vampire foolishly went on the offensive again, which allowed her to remove its head in one quick swipe.
She than heard a low rumbling noise that got louder and louder. She bit her lower lip, wondering what was left when she realized the rumbling was the audience. They were clapping. Some were even standing in the endless sea of people to give their kudos. She smiled, a bit embarrassed, and bowed dramatically. When she rose again she saw that four more vampires had appeared in front of her. They were holding swords as well. The nearest vampire attacked first, followed by the second two. She parried the first blade and cut the vampire across the middle, destroying it instantly and allowing the sword to fall freely from its hand. She caught the second sword in the air with her free hand and faced her next two attackers.
The vampires spread out to attack her from both sides but she managed to parry both at the same time with her two blades. They both lunged at the same time, trying to pin her between their blades but she somersaulted out of the way and caught one of the vampires off guard by her quick move, which she soon used to her advantage as she dispatched it.
The second vampire began moving backwards quickly as she approached it with both her blades. It swung a warning blow but she caught it between both swords and twisted them, along with the vampire. She looked into the vampire’s eyes, now stricken with fear, and smiled. She twisted the sword out of his hand and, pressing both blades into a cross, placed them around the monsters' neck, than quickly pulled them apart, severing its head and turning it to dust. She turned to the fourth and final vampire. This one simply turned and ran, straight toward the audience, apparently out of fear. The audience gasped in terror as the vampire approached. She dropped the blade in her left hand and held the one in her right by its blade, than threw it with all her might. Her aim was true as it tore through the vampire’s chest cavity. It stopped and looked at the wound in surprise before turning to dust as well.
An even more powerful roar than the one before took place all along the stage, as the entire audience rose, applauding, and whistling, hollering, and even blowing kisses. Roses started falling onto stage... and house keys... and... underwear? "Eww..."she thought.
The roaring began to get louder and the floor started to shake. They were getting on stage. All around her people were clambering up to the center area and running towards her. Amanda stepped back, holding out her hands. "No... n-no... there's no need to... please... don't..." she started, but they kept coming, she turned and saw she was cut off from everywhere. She would be trampled if she didn't get out of here! She began to run to nowhere in particular, as she couldn't see a way out. She tripped. They were still coming. She was on the ground. They were only a few yards away. She squeezed her eyes shut as they began to trample her...

Amanda awoke sitting straight up in bed, gasping for breath. She felt like she could still feel herself being trampled. She looked around in a near panic, wondering where she was. She could hear a soft beeping sound and looked down. An IV in her arm. A hospital gown. Gideon must have brought her here after... after what? She tried to remember as the memory of the past few hours slowly started to return to her. She was fighting... she fell... she was... she reached down to her side where she had been impaled. No pain. It was covered by a bandage which she pulled off. She saw pieces of thread sticking out of her smooth skin. Obviously she had been sewn up, but her wound had healed on its own. It had healed over the thread.
The door opened and a young woman in nurse’s clothes walked through with a clipboard. She hummed softly as she scribbled on the clipboard. Amanda cleared her throat and the woman nearly jumped out of her skin. "Wow-I-I-didn't expect you to be awake so soon..." she lowered the board and walked over to her.”How are you feeling.”?
"W-water." Amanda responded, surprised at how hoarse her voice was.
"Oh! Of course." the woman said and took a small cup and filled it up at the nearby sink. She handed it to Amanda who drank greedily. She lowered the cup when she was finished and the nurse took it. "Now how are you feeling..." she looked at the clipboard "...Amanda?"
"I feel fine, I don't mean to sound rude, but can I go now? Hospitals give me the willies." she said and looked toward the window in her room. It was dark out. She had been here all day.
"Go now?! Young lady, you were nearly dead when you were brought in. No, you need to rest for at least a few days." The nurse exclaimed, surprised.
"Really, I feel fine." Amanda said, starting to get up.
"We'll just let the doctor decide that,” the woman said, putting both hands on Amanda's shoulders and pushing her back into the bed. Amanda laid back and pulled back her robe. "See? All better now..."
The woman jumped again and put both hands to her mouth. "W-what?? T-that's impossible!"
"It's okay," Amanda said, "I heal fast."
"N-n-no, t-this is wrong. This is very wrong. It couldn't have closed up so fast. And n-n-not even a scar..."
"Well it did, now can you get this IV out of me? I want to go." Amanda said, sliding her legs off the bed and standing. The woman sat back, shaking her head.
"Gideon told me you might be a strange one... but I laughed at him, why didn't I listen..."
"Gideon? Is he here?" Amanda asked.
"No," the woman said, sighing and beginning to remove the bandage around the IV. "I insisted he leave. Look, this is a favor I will do for him this one time. No more, all right? I am only doing this so I don't have to explain to the doctor why some girl who was carried in five hours ago near dead is now as healthy as a horse."
Amanda wrinkled her nose at the cliché,' it wasn't one she was fond of, but she didn't say anything as the woman continued to unwrap the bandage and than pulled out the IV. She wrapped green medical tape around the wound. "Don't remove this until tomorrow morning." She said, than stood. "Your clothes are hanging right there,” she said, pointing at a closet. "This is a private room. Please get dressed and leave." With that she turned and walked out the door.
Amanda walked over to her hanging clothes and dressed. There was a hole in her shirt from the sword and it was drenched with her blood. She grimaced as she put it on. "I really liked this shirt...” she said with a frown, wishing they had left her another shirt so she wouldn't have to walk around like this. Before she called Gideon, just out of curiosity, she pulled off the new bandage around her arm from where the IV had gone in. As she suspected, the wound was now completely healed. “How strange” she thought. “I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to heal this fast.” She called Gideon and soon Sammy arrived and picked her up.
She was treated to many surprised looks when she entered the hideout. Gideon had told them she would probably heal fast, but they didn't expect her to be up and okay. She lay in her bed that night with a pair of scissors. The pieces of thread still in her body were becoming rather uncomfortable so she snipped the zipper apart and pulled each piece of thread out individually. As she finished up, she heard a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" she called out as she put the scissors away and threw out the pieces of thread.
"Amy." came the response.
Amanda ran over and opened the door. Amy stood outside, shivering slightly in the cold.
"Come on in." Amanda said. "It's freezing out there."
"I'm not staying long I just wanted to say..." she started, than fell forward and engulfed Amanda in a hug, weeping. "...thank you. I was so scared... thank you."
Amanda awkwardly returned the hug. "Hey... it's okay. Did you really think I was gonna let those stupid undead guys kill you?"
Amy sniffed and continued to hold her. "I-I know... just... nobody’s ever stood up for me before. You're my hero." she said, finally releasing Amanda and pulling back some to put some space between the two. “I… should go get some sleep. Goodnight Amanda, I’ll see you tomorrow.” Amy said, before turning and walking off quickly. Amanda smiled; glad she had been able to put some joy in the girl’s life. Satisfied that all was well at the moment, she shut the door and lied back on her bed. Soon she had fallen asleep as well.
