“Willow, we got her!” Xander called as he entered. Giles stepped inside, holding Dawn in his arms, he moved into the living room and placed her unconscious body down on the couch. Willow and Tara came hurrying down the stairs, relieved to see Dawn was back, but Willow’s relief was fleeting as she realised Dawn was unconscious.
“Is she alright?” Tara asked, standing beside Giles.
“Yes, she will be.” Giles assured her. “I imagine she’ll have quite a headache when she wakes up, but she should be fine.” Willow let out a sigh of relief, believing everything would be ok.
“We should try and find the spell book she used, then we can reverse the spell before she wakes up.” Tara said pointedly. Giles frowned and turned to Willow.
“I thought you had already found it.” He said, confusion written on his face.
“I have, it’s upstairs, in Dawn’s room.” Willow said defensively, receiving a suspicious glance from Tara.
“When did you find it?” She asked.
“Let’s save the questions until we’ve given Dawn her memory back.” Xander cut in.
“I agree.” Giles nodded. “Willow, get the book and whatever equipment you need. The sooner we reverse the spell the better.” Tara stared at Willow for a moment longer before turning back to Dawn. Willow hurried out of the room and started up the stairs, Xander following behind her. They entered Dawn’s room, the leather-bound book lay on the bed were Willow had placed it, along with a box of the items Willow would need.
“Willow, are you sure this’ll work, and not make things worse?” Xander asked as she gathered up the items and the book.
“Absolutely, it’ll make things exactly how they were.” Willow nodded. “It’s nothing too serious.”
“Actually Will, this is very serious.” Xander shot back. “You tried to use magic to fix a problem, you erased Dawn’s memory and could’ve gotten her killed.” Willow stared at him weakly. “She would’ve been killed too, if it wasn’t for Spike.”
“Xander, I didn’t do this on purpose, and I’m doing everything I can to set it right.” Willow tried to defend herself. “I was only trying to help.”
“And look what happened.” Xander said firmly, taking the box of items from Willow and heading out the door. Willow stood there, holding the book, fighting her urge to break down and cry.
“They knew that Buffy had died?” Tara asked.
“No, they said it was a rumour.” Giles corrected her. “But if the forces of darkness realise that there is no Slayer protecting Sunnydale…” Giles trailed off. “Vampires, demons, all manner of creatures will descend on this town.”
“So, what exactly are we supposed to do?” Xander asked.
“We need to convince the world that Buffy is still alive.” Giles concluded.
“And how are we gonna do that?” Xander frowned.
“The Buffy-bot!” Tara exclaimed. “It’s still at the Magic Box. Couldn’t we reprogram it?”
“You’re right, the Buffy-bot.” Giles remembered. “We’ll need Willow to…”
“Guys.” Willow appeared in the living room doorway, holding a glass of yellow tinted liquid. “It’s ready.”
“You’re positive this will restore her memory.” Giles asked, moving to take the glass from her. Willow nodded and left the room. Giles looked at the liquid for a moment before moving to Dawn’s side. Tara helped prop her up as Giles poured the liquid into her mouth and down her throat. Xander stood watching, still wrestling with the thought of telling Giles and Tara the truth. He knew they would both be furious, but what Willow had done was a serious matter, she could not go unchecked.
“Well, if Willow is right, when Dawn wakes up she should be her old self again.” Giles smiled, placing the empty glass down.
“I’m sure it’ll be fine.” Tara reassured him. “It’s Willow, when it comes to magic she doesn’t make mistakes.”
“Yes, I suppose you’re right.” Giles nodded.
“Alright, that’s it.” Xander burst out, making Tara and Giles turn to face him. “Listen, I have to tell you something…”
Willow hurried, adding the finishing touch to her spell. She stared at the glowing crystal in front of her, reciting the last few lines of her incantation. She heard an angry cry from Giles in the living room followed by fast approaching footsteps.
‘Gotta hurry!’ Willow told herself. She concentrated on the spell.
“Willow!” She heard Tara call out, they were about to enter the kitchen.
“Make them forget these wrongs, and by the words I say, make them forget their hurt this day.” Willow spoke the last lines of the spell and the crystal before her let out a bright flash just as Giles and the others entered.
“Willow, how could you use magic to…” Tara started but suddenly stopped, her expression blank. Giles and Xander blinked several times, glancing about them for a moment. A smile spread on Willow’s face, the spell had worked.
“As I was saying…” Giles said, locking his gaze on Willow. “We need you to try and reprogram the Buffy-bot, do you think you can do that?”
“Yeah, I think I can.” Willow nodded.
“Great, so if anymore vamps stroll into town, we’ll have robo-Slayer ready to kick some ass.” Xander said brightly, smiling at Willow. Tara moved and took a seat beside her, holding her hand.
“Will you need some help?”
One Month Later.
Xander, Anya and Tara sat in the Magic Box, waiting for Willow to arrive. Giles had left the shop early, leaving Anya in charge, and Dawn was at home, accompanied by Spike.
“What do you think this is about?” Anya asked impatiently.
“I dunno, but Will sounded pretty serious on the phone.” Xander shrugged. The bell above the Magic Box door jingled as Willow made her entrance, everyone’s attention turning to her.
“Hey sweetie.” Tara smiled.
“What’s going on Will?” Xander asked. Willow thought back to what she had seen in Spike’s crypt a month ago, a determined expression on her face.
“We’re bringing Buffy back.”
