“We’ve found her!” Tara called as she and Willow hurried down the stairs. Giles and Xander stood expectantly in the hall, ready to find Dawn and bring her home. Giles looked up at the girls, a hopeful expression on his face.
“You know where she is?” He asked.
“Sunnydale Arms motel.” Willow informed them. “It’s not too far from here, only a couple of blocks.”
“Great, then let’s go bring her back.” Xander said, turning to the door.
“There’s a small chance the locator spell might have been a little off.” Tara started. “The energy from Spike’s resurrection spell is still causing a few ripples.”
“But she should be in the general area.” Willow assured them. Xander stood by the door, while Giles thought on it for a moment.
“We’ll find her.” Giles said confidently, turning to the door. Xander pulled it open and started out with Giles, but Willow followed.
“Xander, can I talk to you for a second?” She asked, catching up with him.
“Yeah sure.” Xander nodded, turning to her.
“Xander?” Giles called, standing beside the car.
“One second Giles.” Xander called back. Willow looked over Xander’s shoulder to Giles and ushered Xander back towards the house, making sure Giles was out of earshot. “What’s up Willow?”
“Look, I’ve done something really bad, and I can’t tell Giles or Tara ‘cause they’ll both be mad.” Willow said lamely, Xander frowned. “Can you promise not to tell Giles?”
“What did you do?” Xander asked.
“Promise!” Willow repeated, noticeably worried.
“I promise Will, now what’s wrong?” Xander stared at her, waiting for her response.
“I cast a spell to help Dawn through the grief. It was supposed to make her forget about being all miserable and help her move on, only it’s made her forget everything.” Willow explained, speaking in a hushed voice.
“You what?” Xander exclaimed. Willow shushed him, glancing at Giles to make sure he hadn’t heard, Giles was looking at them both and growing impatient.
“You can’t say anything to Giles, alright?” Willow reminded him. “Once you get Dawn back here I’ll be able to reverse the spell. Just tell Giles that I found the book she’d used, ok?”
“But Will…” Xander started.
“Xander!” Giles called from the car.
“Please Xander, don’t say anything.” Willow pleaded. “I’ll be able to fix everything, just tell Giles I found the book Dawn used.” Xander stared at her for a moment.
“Ok.” He nodded. “But I hope you realise how much danger you’ve put Dawn in.” Willow dropped her gaze to the floor, knowing he was right.
“I do, and it was stupid of me.” She admitted. “But I didn’t mean it to go this way.”
“I’ll tell Giles you’ve found the book.” Xander said, turning away from her, not showing any sympathy for her. He hurried down the path to the car, not passing another glance at Willow before driving away.

Spike hurried along the street, his leather duster fluttering out behind him. He had picked up Dawn’s scent near the park and was doing his best to follow it. He knew he was getting closer, she couldn’t be more than a block away now. Spike started down the road, heading towards the Sunnydale Arms motel.
‘Wonder what made Dawn wanna scamper?” He thought to himself. ‘Then again, with wankers like them taking care of her I can’t say I’m entirely surprised.’ He stopped at the end of the road, homing in on her scent. He turned towards the motel, a frown on his face. She was in there, the room on the far left of the row. ‘Why?’ the question repeated itself over and over in his head as he started towards the room. Halfway across the car park he stopped dead, picking up another familiar scent. He looked off to his left, just further down the road half a dozen figures were approaching, and then stalking around the side of the motel came another six. Vampires. Spike’s gaze ticked between the two groups heading his way. ‘Bollocks.’

Dawn sat on her bed, rooting her way through the bag of clothes she’d taken from the strange room she’d woken up in. It was strange that they were all her size, save for one item of clothing. She held a white sweater out in front of her, staring at it. For some reason it seemed familiar to her, and roused a great sense of sorrow inside her.
‘Why does this look so familiar to me?’ She thought, placing it down on the bed. She stared at it for a long time, and then suddenly, as if a fog had lifted, a name drifted to her. ‘Buffy?’ She thought. ‘Buffy. Buffy.’ She repeated the name over and over, finding it familiar. ‘Buffy. My sister Buffy!’ She stared at the sweater, thinking hard.
“I had a sister.” Dawn said allowed. “I had a sister named Buffy.”
‘Why was my sisters sweater in that strange place?’ Dawn wondered to herself, her mind racing, unable to conjure up the image of her sister. ‘What if they kidnapped her too?’

“Willow is sure about that?” Giles asked.
“Yeah, she found the exact spell.” Xander lied, his features remained grim after hearing that Willow had been responsible. “Says she’ll be able to reverse it once we get Dawn home.”
“Superb.” Giles said smiling. “If nothing else, we can always count on Willow.” He said proudly. Xander swallowed his urge to tell Giles the truth.
“Yeah.” He nodded. “Can always count on Willow.” He took the next turn, starting towards Sunnydale Arms motel. Giles’ expression grew serious as they neared and Xander slowed the car to a stop. They could see Spike standing in the centre of the car park, and the dozen vampires closing in on him. “Spike?” Xander stared out at the scene ahead. Giles pushed open the car door and climbed out, dragging his heavy cargo bag out with him. He unzipped it and took out two stakes.
“Xander, hurry!” He ordered, tossing one of the stakes to him. Xander climbed out and hurried to Giles’ side. Giles handed him a crossbow and took out a short sword for himself. Then, together, they started towards the motel.

“Alright.” Spike said, glancing at the numerous vampires heading his way. “What do you buggers want?” One of the vampires, clad in combat pants and a leather jacket stepped forwards.
“We heard a rumour.” He said in a low voice. “Came to see if it was true.”
“Yeah, and what would that rumour be?” Spike asked, eyeing the lead vampire. The vampires around him started laughing to themselves until the leader told them to shut up.
“We heard that the Slayer’s dead.” He grinned, his words making Spike’s rage start to well up. “Figured, if it’s true, the town’s ours.” The lead explained. “And if it’s not true, I think me and my boys can handle her.” The vampires laughed quietly to themselves. Spike glared at them. “So tell me, is it true?” The leader asked smugly. Spike brought his gaze to rest on the leader, his eyes burning with fury.
“You bastards could never take her.” He spat. The leader’s arrogant grin vanished into a scowl. “You want this town, you wankers are gonna have to go through me!”
“Fine by me.” The leader shot back, darting forwards and swinging hard. Spike ducked his fist and smashed his knee hard into the vampire’s gut, making him fold to the ground. The other vampires burst into action, charging towards him. Spike swung a high kick into the first vampire’s face, sending it sprawling to the floor before sweeping the legs out from under the next two simultaneously. The next one was almost upon him, but as Spike prepared to counter, it cried out and exploded in a cloud of dust. Spike saw Xander reloading his crossbow, and then Giles coming rushing into the fray with his sword, decapitating one instantly.
‘Bout time the bloody cavalry showed up.’ Spike thought, smiling to himself before driving his fist hard into a vampires face.
“Spike!” Giles voice sounded. “Dawn is inside, stop them!” Spike span around, realising what he was talking about. Four of the vampires had broken away from the fight and started towards the motel rooms. They wouldn’t need any invitation to enter. Spike smashed another vampire down before charging towards the motel, leaving Giles and Xander to deal with the last six.

Dawn stared out of the window, engrossed in the action.
‘What is going on out there?’ She wondered, trying to rationalise the fact that she had seen someone burst into a cloud of dust. She didn’t realise that some of the people had started towards the motel until one ran passed her window. She jumped back, her heart pounding. ‘What’s wrong with their faces?’ Her thoughts were interrupted as the door swung open and the four figures entered her room. They started towards her, fangs bared and hands outstretched. Dawn screamed and stumbled back, the first of the men was standing over her now, reaching down for her.
“Please, leave me alone!” Dawn pleaded, but the man simply grinned more. The other three moved around her, dropping to their knees and grabbing her arms, ready to bite down. Dawn screamed but before any of the things bit her, the man standing over her was pulled backwards and hurled through the window, making the others turn.
“She did ask nicely.” Spike said, standing ready for the other three.

Giles swung low, taking the foot off one vampire before bringing the blade around again and severing its head. Another vampire moved to grab him from behind but Xander intercepted it, cracking the butt of the crossbow into the vampires face before turning to fire the bolt into another, turning it to dust. Before the vampire could get to it’s feet Xander dropped down, driving the stake into its heart.
Giles turned, finding that only three vampires remained, including their leader who looked furious. Xander rose to his feet, gripping the stake tightly.
“I’m going to enjoy ripping you limb from limb.” The leader threatened, stepping forwards and cracking his knuckles. Giles and Xander stood their ground, ready for his attack.

Spike smashed one of the vampires into the wall and then turned to the other two. They charged at him together but Spike was ready. He swung his boot around into the side of the first vampire’s head, sending him stumbling into the other. Dawn was still on the floor staring at him in awe.
“Dawn, get out of here!” He cried, but she didn’t move, stunned that this was someone who knew her. Spike hurried to the table that the T.V stood atop, grabbing the small T.V and hurling it at the vampires as they tried to stand. He then snapped one of the legs off the table and moved in for the kill, dusting the two vamps before they could react. The remaining one clambered to its feet, glaring at him.
“You.” He hissed. “You’re one of us. Why are you fighting against us?”
“Because it’s the right thing to do.” Spike said, gripping the wooden splint. “Plus you tossers have really pissed me off.” The vampire quickly moved back, grabbing Dawn by her shirt and lifting her from the ground. She cried out but the vampire clamped his hand over her mouth.
“Stay back, or the girl dies.” The vampire sneered.
“Never gonna happen.” Spike started forwards, but the vampire lifted Dawn off her feet, looking ready to snap her neck. Spike stopped, seeing the intense fear in her eyes. Before Spike could do anything, the vampire he had thrown through the window stumbled in through the doorway. Instinctively, Spike span around and drove the wooden splint into his chest, turning him to dust. The vampire holding Dawn took its chance, throwing Dawn back into the wall and charged forwards. It swung for Spike but he knew it was coming and blocked it, before plunging the splint deep into his heart. He tossed the splint aside and looked down at Dawn, she had hit her head when the vampire had thrown her and now lay unconscious. He knelt down beside her, carefully scooping her up. “You’ll be alright now Dawn.” He whispered. “Let’s get you home.”

Giles and Xander stood victorious over the remaining vampires and started towards the motel to help Spike. They stopped as he emerged from the room, holding Dawn in his arms.
“Is she…?” Xander started.
“She’ll be fine.” Spike shot back, looking at her unconscious form. “Summers women are tough.” He smiled to himself and started towards Giles. “There’s a bag of her clothes inside, might wanna get ‘em.” He said to Xander. Giles handed Xander his sword as Spike carefully passed Dawn to him. “You get her home now, alright?”
“Thank you Spike.” Giles nodded, his gratitude written on his face.
“Don’t mention it Rupert.” Spike started away from them, heading back to his crypt with Buffy’s white sweater discreetly tucked into his pocket.
