Angelus stood in front of the imposing statue with all of his minions.
All the King's men, Drusilla thought to herself. All came to see the king, all came to see his new rule....
He walked forward, speaking in the beginning of the ritual....
"Acathla, mundatus sum. Pro te necavi. Sanguinem meum pro te effundam, quo me dignum esse demonstram. Now, Acathla," he told the statue in English, "you will be free."
At that moment, Buffy chopped the head off of one of his many minions. Darla and Angelus looked at her, annoyed, while Drusilla looked over sharply. Spike, Darla noted from the corner of her eye, didn't seem surprised. Quite probably, that's where he'd been earlier--and why he wanted the Watcher kept alive.
"I don't have time for you, lover," Angelus told her, as he reached to take the appropriate knife from Drusilla. Buffy grabbed a crossbow from the ground and shot him in the hand. He drew back, then ripped the arrow out.
"You don't have a lot of time left," Buffy told him.
"Coming on kind of strong, don't you think? You're playing some deep odds. Do you really think you can take us all on?"
"No. I don't." She smiled a little, seeing Spike get out of his wheelchair, and watched him bash the older vampire over his head.
Buffy turned, cutting off another vampire head. The rest of the lower minions had the sense to run. Drusilla stood, seemingly paralyzed by the issue with Spike and Angelus. Darla took the lead.
She stalked toward Buffy, carelessly knocking Spike to the side, giving Angelus the advantage.
"So that's what's been going on. Little William planned a coup d'etat. And he's so unfond of the French."
"I guess he's just less fond of lunatics like Angelus and yourself." WIth that, the two of them started fighting.
They traded low blows, then really got into it.
**
Willow was sitting up now. "We should do something," she said. "You know--to help."
"I think Buffy's going to be fine," Xander told her. "She seemed to have some secret weapon or something, from what she said. Besides, what can we do from here?"
He was sorry for asking.
A few minutes later, the orb of Thesulah was in the middle of Willow's bed. She sat right behind it, with Xander and Oz on her left and her right.
"I don't think I'll know what it all means. I don't remember all my Latin," Oz pointed out to her.
"You don't have to understand it--just say it," she directed him.
No matter how much Xander was against giving Angel his soul back and letting him live, there was no way he was going to refuse anything to Willow right then and there.
**
Drusilla stared. Angelus was going to stake her boy--she couldn't let that happen, no matter how naughty he'd been. She attacked him, striking him over the head and knocking him out.
Spike stood up. "Thanks, baby." With that, he grabbed her around the throat, cutting off her air--and knocked her out.
**
Everything was going black. She didn't know why, but it was. She didn't know how this could have happened. One minute, she was ready to kill Darla, and the next, she was being held in a chokehold.
"Finally. A Slayer. Do you have any idea how long it's been since I've tasted blood such as yours?"
Darla's face, in vampire form, filled Buffy's vision. It bent down, coming closer and closer--and she couldn't stop it.
Suddenly, the face lifted, confused, before it once again exploded into dust.
Buffy straightened, rubbing her neck, looking into a pair of cold blue eyes--"Spike?" she asked weakly.
"Couldn't let you think I was backing out on you, could I?" He smirked at her, Drusilla in his arms. "Bloody well hope I never see you again, Slayer. You complicate things too much." With that, he turned, leaving.
Buffy turned back to the matter at hand--getting rid of Angelus. He was unconscious, and it wouldn't be hard at all. Then she noticed him moving a little, and tensed. This could not be good.
"Let's finish this." He jumped up, ready to fight.
"Fine with me." Buffy raised the sword, when he suddenly collapsed to the ground, holding his stomach. Light flashed through his eyes, and he looked like he was in intense pain.
The light stopped, and he looked down. Buffy watched him warily.
He looked back up.
"Buffy? Where are we?"
"Angel?" She dared to ask.
"Buffy?"
She fell down, right into her dead lover's arms.
**
In the hospital room, Oz and Xander looked at Willow. "Did it work?" she asked them quietly.
"I think so, baby."
"Good." She fell over backwards.
"Willow?" Xander bent over her, then looked back up at Oz.
"Get a doctor!" Oz yelled as Xander bolted out of the room.
