Angelus bent down in front of Giles. "Hey, there," he murmered into the Watcher's face.
"Angel." He blinked a little, realizing that his glasses were missing.
"Yeah. Sorry you can't see me, old buddy. But Dru got a little carried away, and they got crushed before you woke up. Of course, that's the least of your problems."
"Really?"
"Yeah. But, anyway, onto the new. I'm having a little problem--I don't think that I'm going to do the ritual quite right. I'm kind of concerned--a little stage fright, I guess you'd call it."
"I can't quite picture it--unless the stage was wooden."
"Oh, and I've never thanked you properly for burning down our old place. I mean, all that I gave you was the death of your girlfriend--who didn't warn me, by the way, about that soul clause. Had I remembered that, I would've given her something better--eternal life, maybe."
"She never would have let you get away with it."
"Newsflash, Watcher-boy. When you're dying, you don't get free will. You're at the mercy of your killer. If he happens to force his own blood into your mouth, you don't get a choice in the matter."
Angelus turned. "Drusilla actually wanted you to see that first-hand, but I told her no."
"Naughty, naughty daddy didn't want to play with you." She giggled a little from the darkness. "Said you were nothing more than an upset robin."
"I didn't call him an upset robin, Dru. I called him an old turkey."
"Mmm. That isn't what your mind was singing." She giggled again.
"Dru's kind of crazy, you know. Matter of fact, I don't think that the two of you have ever been properly introduced. Drusilla, Giles. Giles, Drusilla. Feel honored, sweet. He's read up on you."
"Mm. Naughty robin-man, learning too much too fast. Very bad for you. The nest's going to fall, and all your baby birds will fly away. You'll fall, fall, fall, and crash on the ground."
She watched her hand as it tilted and waved through the air.
"So, Rupert, I was thinking that you could help. And I knew that I'd have to make it worth your while." Angelus turned back to Giles. "Just scream when it hurts," he advised.

Buffy walked into the school library. It was deserted--thank God. She didn't know what she would have done if she'd needed to explain her actions to policemen. Or, even worse, Principal Snyder.
She went into the book cage, opening the weapons closet. She pulled the ripped page out of her pocket, comparing it to the pointy objects she found. Finally, there was one that matched. She pulled it out and strode out of the library.
Principal Snyder watched her from inside of Giles's office, then picked up the phone. "Mr. Mayor? There may be a slight problem. Yes, about that rock from the museum....."
**
Buffy opened the door. Giles's apartment was dark, but unlocked. She walked in, turning on a lightswitch and closing the door behind her. She only got a few steps further before she saw a figure from the darkness. He was kind of short, had on a hat, and was NOT one of Giles's friends.
In one movement, she'd dropped the sword, grabbed the new person around the throat, picked him up by that same throat, and shoved him into the wall.
"Why are you here?"
"You could put me down," he pointed out. "I really don't bite."
She eyed him suspiciously, but dropped him. "Talk."
"You must be the Slayer."
"The one and--one of the two."
"That's right. Forgot about that other one. But I'm here for Angel."
"One of his buddies?"
"Until you and he made with the happy, I was."
"Talk. You haven't said anything that makes me stop wanting to yank out your guts through your mouth. And I have had a really bad day."
"Nice visuals," he complimented her. "And this day should've been fine--I figured it would be Angel's one shining moment. Didn't know that you guys were going to find the one way around his soul. He was supposed to help you."
"Who are you?"
"Whistler."
"And you know Angel."
"Yeah. I'm the one that got him to set up here. I'm also the one who knows why you're carrying that sword around--and how to use it."
"Fine. How?"
"If he opens the doorway to hell.... If he frees Acathla.... You're going to have to stab him through the heart, and the heart of the demon. And that's going to send them both to hell."
"Sounds easy. Hell's too good for Angelus."
"You're sending your boyfriend, too, you know."
Her face, which had been expressing the fact that this was "justice", slipped a little.
"He's in Angelus, same way that the demon's always in Angel. You've got to know, they won't be coming back. Anything that makes it out of hell is just..... Usually, evil."
"I'm prepared. He manages to get out, I'll kill him again."
"Be careful."
"I haven't got anything left to lose."
She turned to walk out, ignoring his last comment. "Wrong, kid." His face was worried. "You've got one more thing."
