A/N: I really like this chapter. I like a certain quote that says "When Buffy had died fighting Glory, Anya was more worried about the fact that there was no one to save them when things got ugly. But Anya knew that was being selfish; know Anya was worried by the fact that there was no one to save Buffy. She was looking out for everyone all the time but who was looking for her? " I know its long but its good. I named this human because Anya in this chapter becomes more human. So I'll stop commenting on this now and let you read but keep that in mind. Oh and don't forget to review.
Anya Harris sat on the couch and sipped her tea. Xander wasn’t home yet and she was worried. It was getting really late and the feeling in Anya’s gut wouldn’t go away. She hated that he had to go out secretly, without telling her. She knew that he was going out to patrol like he did every night. But there was something about the way he did it tonight. He would wait until her thought she was asleep and then he would kiss her on the forehead gather stakes and maybe a crossbow and go out. She would stay up and wait for him and tonight was no exception. Only that instead of waiting in bed she sat on the couch with a cup of tea that was supposed to calm her stomach, but it didn’t. Maybe it was because it was the anniversary of Buffy’s disappearance; maybe it was that she was scared and lost by the fact that after three years no one had heard from her.
Xander had been a little cranky today, antsy almost and now Anya knew why. He wanted to get out and find her. He hoped, as he did every night, that she would turn up or he would find out something. He never did, though and he always came home with that sad glint in his eye.
She wondered why he felt it was his responsibility to find Buffy. He had taken it so hard and showed the most emotion. Well, he hadn’t cried like she or Dawn and Willow had but he had shown emotion by showing no emotion. He was almost comatose and Anya knew that inside it was killing him. She closed her eyes as she remembered the nightmares everyone had shared. No one would speak of them but she knew that they were hurt and scared by them. She took a deep breath and wondered where Buffy was?
Then she almost smiled at the thought. She herself had changed so much. She no longer cared just for Xander but for everyone. She cared less about herself and more about others. She was no longer the straightforward ex-vengeance demon who wanted to save her own ass in a battle. Her love for Xander and what had happened in the past three years had made her more human. When Buffy had died fighting Glory, Anya was more worried about the fact that there was no one to save them when things got ugly. But Anya knew that was being selfish; know Anya was worried by the fact that there was no one to save Buffy. She was looking out for everyone all the time but who was looking for her? Anya bit her lip and vowed that if she ever saw Buffy again, which she knew and hoped she would, she would say sorry.
She curled up on the couch more and took another sip of her tea. It was getting cold and it didn’t have the taste that she hoped it would. She looked at the clock and it read 12:30. She hoped Xander wasn’t hurt. Then she shivered and tried to block that thought. He’s fine, he—she stopped as the phone rang and she jumped up and shrieked at the noise. It was a good thing that all the people in the building had moved out or she would have been getting a lot of complaints on that one. She cursed as she realized she spilled her tea and then ran to grab the phone.
“Hello?” she said groggily remembering that if it was Xander that he still thought she was asleep.
“Ahn, you awake?” Xander asked.
Anya stood up straight. “Xander? What? What’s wrong? Are--.” She was cut off as Xander stopped her.
“I’m fine…but listen come to…the house.”
Anya closed her eyes knowing that he had been about to say Buffy’s but stopped. “Ok…should I bring weapons is there a demon?”
“No not right now…I got to go.”
“Alright I love--.” She stopped as she realized that he had hung up.
That worried her, it must have been important. Really important, if that’s what caused him not to say I love you or anything like that. She turned off the lights, got a stake and headed out the door. Xander had told her not to bring a weapon but what about the walk over to the house. What was she supposed to do if a vampire came up to her? Scream and run for her life…no way. She learned that she needed to fight and she knew enough protection spells and how to conjure a fireball if she needed too.
She made her way out of the apartment and headed out of the apartment building. A small light burned in the hallway and Anya knew that it was because that the electric company was so far away. After the town had sort of fallen to the vampires the town council or whatever decided to get electricity and water from neighboring towns. There were still a few stores around for the people who had stayed in Sunnydale, but the town wasn’t as it used to be. The children went to schools in other towns, if there were any children left and people got jobs elsewhere. The population was like 100 people, when it should be only seven. Seven for all of the scoobies or what was left of the scoobies.
Anya walked down the streets; it was pitch-black one streetlight to every street, on her way to Scooby head quarters. She wondered what was so important. Maybe Xander had a lead or found something. Anya flinched something being an earring or piece of clothing. Or it could be a body part. She hoped it wasn’t the later.
Anya stopped walking for a second as she caught a something. It was a feeling of something she hadn’t felt in a long time, she couldn’t place it. It was vaguely familiar and she searched her mind for what it could be. But she was interrupted when she heard a growl and even though Anya said she should fight she really didn’t want to. So she ran toward the house, still trying to figure out where that feeling came from.
