Buffy and Faith walked down the street together. "Man, this is the life!" exclaimed Faith.
"Yup. We're the slayers. We're--"
"The law! And you know it, don't you? You did then, all those years ago, and you do now. We are better." Faith wanted to scream with joy, so happy that Buffy was getting it.
"I know." Buffy's face smiled again. "And everyone else just has to accept that."
"What about the watchers?" Faith watched Buffy closely, looking for some sign that she was still the prude she used to be....
"Screw the watchers council. They couldn't even protect themselves from a hasbeen priest..... How would they know what to do with real slayers?"
Faith preened. B was finally accepting what she'd known all along--they were the law. And those years of penance--of redemption--weren't wasted if they both knew that now.
"Buffy." They saw Connor on the street.
"That's Angel's brat, isn't it? The one that he had to get from L.A.?" asked Faith.
"Yeah. Wonder what he's doing?"
"Don't know."
"Where's my father?" Connor's face was angry.
"Whoa. Your what?" The slayers stopped. Buffy's face started to frown.
"My lying, worthless father." Connor turned from Buffy to Faith. "Angel."
"Hate to break it to you, little guy, but Angel's a vamp. Can't be anybody's father. You're just delusional."
"No. The prophecy, and Darla, and all the rest of it. And then he never even told me...." Connor trailed off, shaking his head.
"How 'bout we go somewhere and talk? You tell us your secrets.... We'll show you ours." Faith smiled a little. B wouldn't care--and on the off chance that this kid wasn't just babbling, they were going to find out something pretty important, too.
