Chapter Two: The Basement
Buffy opened her eyes to realize that she was chained to a wall in a basement. She didn't remember how she had gotten there. Things were still really fuzzy. She slowly stood up and her entire body ached. She looked around trying to recall what had happened.

"I was wondering when you would wake up. You sure you're the slayer?" A blonde vampire asked.

"Last time I checked yes. What am I doing here?" Buffy asked.

"What do you think you're doing here? My vampire group wants to have our way with you. Ooh...that sounded different than I intended it too. I didn't mean like that."

"You know I'll figure out a way to get free and stake each and every one of you."

"I know. It's still going to be tons of fun while it lasts. Just so you know, my name's Molly. I know you're name. Buffy Summers."

"Yeah. That's my name, don't wear it out."

"You still find time to joke? You're chained to a wall in a basement."

"True. I'll figure away to get out sooner or later. Something tells me your group of vampires isn't very bright."

"Excuse me?"

"Nothing."

"Fine. I just won't give you any water for today. Die of thirst for all I care." Molly put her hands on her hips.

"No. We need her alive for out plan to work." A male vampire made his way down the stairs, a cup of water and some food in his hands.

"Sorry, Derek. She just pissed me off." Molly responded.

"Yeah, well, I can't have you killing her yet."

"What exactly is the point of keeping her here if we don't kill her?"

"We've been over this at least ten times."

"I'm still confused. What's the plan again?"

"Not here. Not in front of the slayer."

"Why not? It's not like she's actually going to do something."

"I've been watching her. She's smarter than you would think." He walked over to Buffy and placed the water and food at her feet.

"You expect me to eat this? What is it?" Buffy asked.

"Food. You either eat it, or starve. The choice is yours." Derek told Buffy.

"Yeah...okay...but what is it?"

"You'll find out once you taste it. It's like...nothing you've ever had before."

"Is it poisoned?"

"Poisoned? Why would I poison it?"

"Yeah. Why would he poison it?" Molly repeated.

"Whatever. Can you two please leave me alone? It's kind of annoying with you guys in here. I'm trying to eat whatever this stuff is you call food." Buffy looked down at the place and grimiced.

"I'm a girl, not a guy, and we're not leaving. You might get free." Molly sighed.

"No." Derek told Molly.

"No, what?" She asked.

"No, we are not staying."

"What? You mean we're actually going to leave her alone?"

"Yes. I don't think she's going to try anything smart this early." Derek flashed Buffy a smile and then went up the stairs. Molly followed him like a puppy at her master's heels.

Buffy's eyes followed to two vampires as they went up the stairs. When she was sure they had left, she looked down at her plate again. She sighed and sat down on the cold, damp floor. The chains were just long enough for her to sit and still reach her food.

Buffy picked up the glass of water and gulped it down. She hadn't realized how thirsty that she was. Once Buffy was finished with the water she stuided the food on her plate once again. It looked like green goop and stuff was oozing from it. She had never seen anything like it and the smell was now getting to her. Her head ached...the smell. She tried to block it out, but it grew stronger and stronger. It was gross and nausiating...like...like...she didn't know.

"What the heck is this?" She asked herself. "I'm so not going to eat it." Buffy pushed the plate away from her. She had to figure a way to get out. She would eventually starve down in the basement. She waited and waited for Molly or Derek to come back down, but they did not.

Buffy stood back up and paced, it wasn't really far though since she was chained up, back and forth and then she heard voices. They were coming from upstairs. She recognized Derek's voice, but the other three she had never heard before. There was two girls and one boy as well as Derek. Buffy strained her ears to hear their conversation.

"Do you think she ate it?" A boy's voice asked.

"I don't know. What was it?" A girl asked.

"Something." Derek responded.

"I'm sick of all this cryptic crap. Do you know how much it's getting on my nerves?" Another girl rolled her eyes.

"Don't talk to me like that. I am you leader and you're lucky I even provide you with this shelter when the sun's out. I could stake you right now if I wanted to." Derek threatened.

"Oh yeah? Then why don't you do it?"

"I will." Buffy heard a cry and then all was silent. She wondered if Derek had really staked her.

"Oh no...you killed Judy." The girl sobbed.

"She had it coming." The boy laughed.

"It isn't funny. Any of you try that and I'll stake you as well. Someone needs to go check on the slayer." Derek instructed.

"Why don't you? You're the big and tough one." The boy said sarcastically.

"Fine. I will go down and make sure she isn't trying anything." There was a moment of silence and Buffy heard footsteps. The door to the basement swung open and Buffy sat back down. Derek came down the stairs and eyed her suspiciously.

"What?" Buffy asked.

"Nothing. So, you didn't eat your food?" Derek walked over to where Buffy had pushed the plate and picked it up. "I told you to eat it."

"Yeah. A lot of people tell me to do things. Doesn't mean I listen."

"Oh, you'll learn to listen to me." Derek threw the plate against the wall. It hit four inches to the left of Buffy's head and she flinched. The green goop ran down the wall and Buffy moved over as far as she could to avoid it.

"Wow. I think you have some anger issues to work out." Buffy stared at Derek, a blank expression on her face.

"You think you're really something aren't you? To bad Angel never told you about me."

"Angel?" Buffy looked at Derek. How did he konw Angel and why was he bringing him up.

"We go way back...to the oh...I don't know 1800s or so." Derek paused.

"What does that have to do with anything?" Buffy asked.

"You really want to know?"

"Yeah. I want to know."

"Then I'll tell you the story. Or...maybe I shouldn't."

"I think you should."

"Well, since you asked so nicely. I'll start from the very begining." Derek took another pause and closed his eyes as if he were waiting for the memories to come back to him. He then opened his eyes and began to tell Buffy his story.
