Chapter Eleven: Waking up
Buffy opened her eyes and sat up. Her head hurt really bad and the light seemd bright. She blinked a while until her eyes adjusted and then she smiled. Her friends were staring at her like they were worried. She knew they had been worried about her.

"I'm fine." She assured them.

"You took a pretty hard fall. You sure you're okay?" Willow asked, concern in her eyes.

"Yeah. Never been better. Okay, maybe I have. There's this headache, but it's nothing that a good night's rest won't cure."

"That's good to hear."

"Yeah, B. Did Joyce really throw you that hard?" Faith asked.

"I guess so. She just caught me so off gaurd and she was surprisingly strong. Stronger than Caleb."

"I knew I wasn't the only one who compared her to him." Xander smiled.

"Yeah...you positive that everything's okay?" Dawn asked.

"Yes. Would you guys please quit asking me that question over and over?" Buffy asked.

"I'm glad you're okay." Angel reached out his arm and put it around her.

"I'm glad I'm okay too." She replied taking comfort in his arms. As she sat there her mind went back to her dream. Her mind went back to Spike. Was he really in her dream? The whole thing was so confusing. Why was she dreaming about Spike anyway? It was true that she had thought of him a few times here and there, but no enough for him to be in her dream. "So, does anyone know anything about who, or what, my mom really is?" Buffy asked the group.

"No. No one's really tried to look. We have no idea where to start. Maybe something with come to us soon." Willow smiled hopefully.

"Yeah, but until then what are we going to do? Wait around for Joyce to pick us off? It's only a matter of time before she kills someone else. There was Kennedy and Robin...who's next?" Faith asked.

"Faith's right, Buffy. What are we going to do?" Dawn asked.

"I don't know...things....are really confusing right now. I just hope that she doesn't try to kill someone else." Buffy sighed.

"I'm getting really concerned about this whole thing, Buffy. We need to do something." Angel stated.

"I know we need to do something...I just don't know what."

"Yeah...well sitting here saying we need to do something ,isn't going to help. I say we get up and actually do something." Xander suggested.

"But what will we research?" Willow asked.

"Okay fine...I was just trying to motivate everyone."

"Maybe we should just sleep on it." Faith got up and stretched.

"It's just such a bad time for this to happen. I know that Willow was going to go to a college and Xander was going back to construciton. Dawn, Andrew, and I were going to go to Rome. I don't know if we should now though." Buffy looked down.

"Oh come on, I think we still should. Maybe she won't follow us any more if we're all split up." Willow suggested.

"Or maybe it will just be worse. If we're all seprated we can't stick together. It will be easier for my mom...to...trick us or kill us." Dawn explained.

"It is confusing and we keep coming to a dead end no matter which path we try to go down." Buffy ran her fingers through her hair. "Let's just wait a while and see what happens. Things could possibly settle down and even if they don't...maybe with time we can learn more about this thing that is pretending to be my mother."

"Okay...we'll wait and see what happens." Angel agreed with Buffy.

*****
Buffy and the rest of the scoobies had decided to indeed wait and see what else would happen. For about two entire weeks, nothing happened at all. Joyce never made any more appearances, no one showed up missing or dead, and nothing supernatural happened. It was strange and could mean two things. The first being that Joyce had had her fun and was moving on and the second being that she had a bigger plan and was resting to build up strength. Buffy now sat in the lobby of the Hyperion with Xander and Willow. Everyone else was in other places of the hotel. Some were sleeping others were bathing or exploring.

"So, what do you think the whole quiet thing means?" Bufy asked.

"What do you mean?" Willow asked in return.

"I mean...the evil thing pretending to be my mother. Things have been way too quiet lately. I haven't had any dreams and she hasn't showed up to kill anyone yet."

"Oh, that."

"I hope it doesn't mean what it meant last time." Xander sighed.

"You mind explaining?" Buffy asked.

"Uh...yeah. Like last time with the First. There was this small 'quiet' period, but during that period of quietness, the First grew in strength and that Caleb guy showed up."

"Yeah. I hope that doesn't mean this new evil isn't just getting stronger."
