Chapter Nine: Time To Move On
Buffy's dream:
Buffy sat on her bed staring at her clock. She had been watching the minutes, and seconds, pass for the last hour. Things used to make so much sense and now nothing made sense any more. Faith had made a point that a lot of the gang considered. Should they really move on with thier lives?
Buffy didn't know what to think. There was a part of her that wanted to go some where else and not have to worry about demons or vampires. The other part didn't think that they should split up. Some new evil was rising and she could feel it. She didn't want to have to fight it herself. She continued to stare at her clock.
"Time moves so slowly doesn't it?" Buffy's mother sat down beside of Buffy on the bed.
"When you watch it, it does." Buffy replied not taking her eyes away from the clock.
"It's running out though."
"What?"
"Time. I'll be coming for you. No matter what you decided to do with the rest of you life, I will be behind you. Nothing can change that."
"Should we?"
"Should we what?"
"Should my friend and I truly move on?"
"That is up to you, my daughter. I cannot make the decision for you. It is up to you and only you."
"You can't even give me some guidence?"
"That's not what I'm here for. You know that."
"Then what are you here for?"
"Time will tell. You may think that it moves slowly right now, but it will soon speed up. You can sit here and watch it as long as you want, but nothing is going to change the facts."
"I'm so lost."
"I know. The forest is very thick and much like a labrynth. You'll find your way soon enough."
"I'm confused."
"Yes. You think you know who you are, what's to come. You haven't even begun."
"I...wait. I've heard that some where before. Oh...um...Tara."
"What?"
"I had this dream, we all did, about the first slayer. Tara was in my dream and she kept repeating that. Why are you saying it too?"
"I only speak the truth. Every sylable that leaves my mouth is in some way true. That's why I said what I said."
"Always so cryptic."
"Who?"
"You are."
"Yes. I suppose that I am."
"Why?"
"I'm not so sure, to be honest."
"You don't make sense. I'm going to wake up now."
"Fine, but remember our talk."
"Did we even talk about that much?"
"No. I guess not. Goodbye. Remember, it is up to you to decide if it is time to move on." Buffy's mother dissapeared.
Buffy opened her eyes. She hadn't even realized that she had fallen asleep. She quickly sat up to find that se was on the couch and no one was around. She got up and looked around. Just as she was about to go up to her room Willow entered the lobby.
"Hey Buffy. Did I scare you or something?" Willow asked.
"A little. I didn't know where everyone was. Yeah. You went up to your room and then came back down. When you fell asleep on the couch no one wanted to wake you up."
"Oh. That's um...fine."
"Is there something wrong?"
"No...no."
"You sure?"
"I just had another dream with my mom in it. This was the strangest of all."
"What was it about?"
"That's the thing. It was kinda like nothing. I was looking at my clock, she was all like 'doesn't time move slow?'. We just sat there and talked, but it was...about nothing."
"Sounds interesting."
"Yeah. I talked to her about what I should do. You know if I should move on."
"What did she say?"
"That it was up to me."
"Oh. I've been thinking about Faith's suggestion and honestly it isn't a horrible one."
"What are you saying?"
"That I think it is time to move on. Fall is coming next month and I still have time to register for classes at a really good college. I really want to finish it. I'll have to start my sophmore year over though. Didn't really go through a complete year."
"What college are you going to?"
"Not sure yet. I've been doing some research. I pretty much go any where in the world."
"Yeah...I um...guess you could."
"What are you going to do Buffy?"
"I don't konw yet."
"Well, Xander's going back to construction."
"He is?"
"Yep."
"We're slowly being torn apart."
"Oh, Buffy! It isn't like that at all. It's just time that we moved on. We can still stay in touch."
"People always say that, but it never really happens."
"But it will for us. Nothing can come between us. Not even death. You've died twice, yet here you are alive and in the flesh."
"I know...it's just that it's kind of soon."
"Soon?"
"Yeah. I'm okay with it though."
"You sure?"
"It's not like you're going to decide not to go to college anyway."
"Hey, you should go to Rome."
"Rome? As in Rome, Italy?"
"Yeah."
"Okay. You usually make sense, but me in Rome? I don't even have enough money to pay for a plance ticket. What would Dawn do?"
"Fine. It was just a suggestion. If you really wanted to go we could come up with something."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I mean come on, it's Rome."
"I guess I have kinda always wanted to go."
"You can also look for some slayers while you're there."
"I guess. I'll go and take Dawn with me."
"Oooh...Rome? Can I go too?" Andrew asked walking into the lobby.
"You want to come to Rome with Dawn and me?" Buffy asked. She didn't really want to believe the question that had just left his mouth.
"Yeah. I could be to some major assistance in locating the um...other slayers." Andrew smiled.
"I'm sure you'd be great...but you can't come with us. We barely have enough money for Dawn and me to go. What makes you think you're coming?"
"You're right and I'm sorry I ever bothered you. It was stupid to think that I could ever go to Rome with the slayer." Andrew sighed and began to walk away.
"Wait. I'm sure we could figure something out." Willow suggested.
"What?" Buffy gave Willow and annoyed look.
"Come on. What harm can it do? He's just Andrew." Willow replied.
"Can you just listen to yourself for a moment? He's Andrew. Annoying, little Andrew."
"Just let him go."
"Why are you so for letting him come with me anyway?"
"I honestly don't really know. A part of me feels sorry for him."
"Hey." Andrew defended. "I'm not that bad."
"Yes you are." Buffy responded. "But, I guess Willow's right. Fine. You can come to Rome with Dawn and I."
"Yay!" Andrew smiled. "I owe you slayer."
"Yeah. You do."
"So...see you later." Andrew walked up the stairs to his room.
"So, about that plan. How are the three of us going to Rome?" Buffy asked.
"I don't know. We could get online and find a really good deal." Willow responded.
"Okay. Giles's flight leaves tomorrow. I still can't believe he's going."
"Yeah...but we can't really stop him."
"I know. So Rome it is."
"You excited?"
"It's hard to believe, but yes I am. It's been a long day. I think I'm going to go upstairs and go back to sleep."
"You just woke up."
"Good point. I still feel tired."
"Okay then. You go sleep. I'll see you in the morning."
"Okie dokie. Oh...I should probably tell Dawn before I go to sleep. Is she in her room?"
"I think so."
"See you in the morning." Buffy waved and then went to go find Dawn. She was indeed in her room. "Hey. You okay?"
"Yeah. Why?" Dawn asked.
"Just wondering."
"What is it?"
"Nothing."
"Sure?"
"I mean nothing bad. Giles is going to England, Willow's going back to college, Xander's going back to construction and you and I are going to Rome."
"Rome, Italy?" Dawn's eyes went wide in surprise.
"Yes. Rome, Italy."
"That is so cool. Is anyone else coming with us?"
"Um...yeah. Andrew is."
"Andrew? Why are you going to let him come?"
"It's a long story. Willow, I don't know how she did, talked me into taking him. He can't be that annoying, can he?"
"I don't know. He is Andrew."
"Well, we are going to Rome. Try to get some rest. I know I am."
"You going to bed already?"
"Yeah. I'm...just so tired."
"Okay. Good night. See you in the morning. I can't wait to go to Rome."
"Yeah. Good night." Buffy got up and went into her room. She lied down on her bed and fell asleep.
Buffy stood at the airport ready to go to Rome. She couldn't believe that she and her friends were moving on and breaking up. They had been together for the last seven years and now...they were moving on.
Buffy made sure that Dawn stayed with Andrew as she went to the bathroom. She walked in and there was no one in there. She was releived. Buffy walked over to the mirror and took one good look at herself. It had been so long since she had done that. She had really changed in the past month.
"Not really a pretty sight it is?" Buffy's mother walked up beside of her.
"I don't know what you mean." Buffy replied.
"I think you do. It's only been a month since you took that look in the mirro and already you've seen a dramatic change. It's okay to think you're ugly."
"Ugly? I'm not...I don't think I'm ugly. It's just that I've matured."
"You think you have, but I know the truth. You've turned into somone that you cannot even recognized. Poor Buffy."
"Why are you talking like that?"
"Because I can." Her mother transformed into Caleb. "So many girls today are coming up in society. Just becasue they can have a man's job doesn't mean anything. You have to get so arrogent and disrespectful. You start to think better of yourselves than men. Shame on you." Caleb punched Buffy.
"I never really was much one for men. All of my relationships sucked." Buffy attempted to punch Caleb but he grabbed her hand.
"You always try to fight back. It never does you any good. Violence is never the answer."
"You never get tired of hearing yourself speak do you?"
"And you never get any new lines." Still holding her hand., Caleb snapped Buffy's arm. "Now see what fighting back does for a girl? Nothing."
"Why are you here?" She asked slowly pulling her arm away.
"I have a message to deliver."
"And what would that be? Do you have something of mine?"
Caleb laughed. "No. I just came to tell you that it's back. I'm back and we're going to kill you soon." Caleb dissapeared and Buffy was left alone in the bathroom
