Chapter Eight: England
Buffy walked up to the door of Willow's room and lightly knocked. There was no reply on the other side of the door, but Buffy opened it anyway. Willow was curled up on her bed; her face tear stained and red. Buffy walked in and closed the door behind her.
"Hey. You gonna be okay?" Buffy asked sitting down beside of Willow.
"I...I don't know." Willow responded looking up. "Is...um...is Xander okay?"
"He's fine. Had a pretty hard fall, but he'll be fine. It's not him I'm worried about."
"I'm so sorry."
"Don't be. You didn't go all evil."
"But, I almost did. It was closer than ever before."
"Yet, here you are NOT evil."
"It was still so close. I...could've killed Xander and everyone else in that room. I don't want to hurt anyone again, Buffy. I don't want to hurt anyone."
"Shhhh....you're not. You're going to be okay."
"No...it's not that easy."
"We'll get through it Willow. I know you're mourning and that's fine, but you will get through it."
"I was so scared. I felt myself slipping and...I had no control."
"Yes you did. You decided to stop yourself from turning evil. It took strength. You have strength Willow and I know that you're going to make it. We'll try our best to help you."
"Yeah. You guys are, as usual, really great.I don't know what I would do with out you."
"And I don't know what I would do without you."
"You're sure Xander's alright?"
"He's fine."
"That's good. I didn't meant to get so out of control."
"Willow, don't worry about it."
Willow looked at Buffy and smiled. Then more tears slowly ran down her face. Buffy returned Willow's smile and gave her a big hug. Buffy got up, smiled at Willow again, and then left the room. As Buffy went down the stairs she ran into Giles.
"Sorry, Buffy. How is Willow?" He asked.
"I think she's going to be okay. She's really upset, but she's strong." Buffy responded.
"I um...have been thinking Buffy."
"About what?"
"Going back to England."
"Again?" Buffy raised her eyebrows.
"Yes again. I was thinking of going back to England and taking the potential slayers with me. I could train them there or send them back to their homes."
"What about the whole thing with my mom?"
"I think you can figure it out. After all you were the one who said you didn't need my help, or want it, any more."
"I know...that was then though. I really need you're help on this."
"I don't think you do. You can handle this without me. If you do need me, I am only a phone call away."
"Do you have to go?"
"I'm sorry, Buffy but you are old enough to take care of yourself and those around you. I've already baught my plane tickets."
"What? How long have you been planning on going?"
"For a while now. I often thought that if we made it, if we beat the First, then I would go back to England forever."
"Oh."
"It's nothing personal Buffy."
"I believe you. I just...you've been planning on going to England for the past month?"
"Yes."
"And you just now decided to tell me?"
"I'm sorry, but I'm going."
"When's the flight?"
"Tomorrow morning."
"Tomorrow? That's...it's too soon."
"No it's not. Buffy you will do fine on your own. I have faith in you."
"Funny way to put it. Look it's not that I don't want you to go it's just that I don't want you to go this soon."
"I know you don't, but there is nothing I can do to change it. It potentials and I are leaving for England tomorrow. Now if you'll excuse me I need to pack what little items I own." Giles walked up the rest of the stairs and down the hall into his room.
"Bye." Buffy walked down the stairs and into the lobby. Everyone stared at Buffy waiting for her to say something.
"Is Willow okay?" Dawn asked.
"Yeah...is she..." Xander waited for Buffy to speak.
"She's going to be fine. She wanted me to tell you guys that she's really sorry and that she never intended to hurt anyone."
"But, she's going to be okay?"
"Yeah."
"Good."
"It was pretty scary. Willow getting so close to turning evil again. Would she kill us all if she did turn evil?" Dawn asked.
"Probably." Buffy replied.
"Little, sweet Willow can turn all evil and go killing people?" Gunn asked.
"Pretty much." Buffy responded.
"Wow."
"I personally don't see someone so sweet turning evil, but I believe it. That girl send some seriously strong vibes out. I wouldn't want to get on her bad side." Lorne joked.
"I wouldn't either." Fred added.
"Yeah, it's great that Willow's okay, but who killed her?" Angel asked.
"No one knows." Buffy responded with a sigh.
"I know, I know." Buffy's mother suddenly appeared in the middle of the room.
"What are you doing here?" Buffy asked.
"Not that again. Every time you see me you never say "Hi mom. It's nice to see you." or "Hey! How are you?" It's always "What are you doing here?" I'm getting sick of it. What do you think I'm doing here?"
"I don't know. Did you kill Kennedy?"
"You're brighter than I remembered. You win the million."
"But why?"
"I needed to send you guys another sign. You're ignoring me. The dreams the killings. You need to get with the program."
"I don't understand."
"You never understand anything that comes out of my lips. I killed Kennedy and I killed Principle Wood. They are only two people on my long list. I will be coming for all of you soon. It's just a matter of time." Just as quickly as she appeared, Buffy's mother was gone.
"That was certainly vague and confusing." Fred stated.
"Yeah. Why is she killing Wood and Kennedy? It doesn't make any sense." Xander added.
"Unless, of course, she isn't you mother. It is something pretending to be your mother to trick you and to confuse you. You're conected to your mother through your emotions. Seeing her makes emotions come to you and it's hard to fight back. I, nor no one else, seems to know who or what is mascarading as your mother. We will find out soon though." Wesley explained as he walked into the lobby.
"Yeah...mom...she...it looked so much like her." Dawn replied.
"It did, but we have to remember that it isn't really her or it will get exactly what it wants. We now know that that is to get all of us killed." Buffy sighed again and ran her fingers through her hair.
"We'll figure it out Buffy." Angel put his arm around Buffy.
A few minutes later Giles came down the stairs with a bag in his hand. Everyone, but Buffy turned to Giles and wondered why he was carrying the bag. He reached the lobby, where the others were, and placed the bag down. He returned the bland stares he received and Xander was the first to ask what he was doing.
"What does this mean?" Xander asked.
"I'm gonig back to England and I'm...I'm...er...taking the potentials back with me." Giles responded.
"What?" Dawn raised her eyebrows in disbelief.
"The plane leaves tomorrow."
"I can't believe you already have tickets."
"I'm sorry, but I think that is for the best."
"The best for who?" Xander asked.
"For all of us. You really don't need me here." Giles replied.
"Yes we do."
"I've already had this conversations with him." Buffy said coldly. "He isn't going to change his mind any time soon. He's going to England and doesn't care what the rest of us have to say."
"Yes I do. I just...can't let that affect my decision. I'm going back to England and I'm going back for the rest of my life. If, however, you do need me, I am only a phone call away. Do not make this harder than is has to be."
"Hey, as far as I figure it, old Giles is going to England whether we like or not. Doesn't look like there's anything we can do to stop him." Faith walked in and found a seat on the couch. "So, how's Willow by the way?"
"Fine." Buffy stared at Giles. "Faith is right. I don't want to talk about it any more. Go to England. I really don't even care."
"Buffy..." Giles was interupted.
"Don't. Just don't."
"Giles has a point. Maybe the rest of us should move on as well. Do something else besides hanging around this old hotel." Faith suggested.
"Move on?" Dawn asked.
"Yeah." Faith responded.
"I don't know...where would we go or what would we do?" Xander asked.
"Beats me. You're the big smart on in the group. Okay, maybe not. I'm just saying there are better things out there." Faith explained.
"I wouldn't mind y'all leaving." Gunn added.
"We'll discuss it another day. I...I have too much of a headache right now." Buffy got up and went upstairs to her room. Was Faith acutally right? Was it time to move on?
