Chapter Seven: Trouble While Dining
About an hour after Buffy burried Robin she, Willow, Xander, Angel, Dawn, and Faith sat in the lobby.
"So, B, doesn't it feel good to be burrying those bodies again?" Faith asked.
"No. I didn't miss it one bit." Buffy responded.
"Who actually likes to burry dead bodies?" Xander asked.
"You've got me." Dawn responded.
"You know what I want to do?" Angel looked at everyone else.
"What?" Buffy looked back at him.
"We should go out."
"Like where?"
"I don't know, to dinner or something."
"Would you actually eat something if we did go?" Willow asked.
"No, but it would be fun to just get out of this hotel." Angel responded.
"I'm with Angel boy here. It would nice to get out of this hotel." Faith smiled.
"I don't know...what if..." Buffy was cut off by Dawn.
"What if 'our mother' comes back while we're gone." Dawn finished Buffy's sentence. "I think we'll be okay. Come on. When was the last time you went out to a nice restaurant?"
"Actually it was with Robin."
"Wait, you went out with that looser?" Angel asked getting jealous.
"No...no. It was...I thought he was evil. Turns out he was the daughter of the slayer Nikki Wood or something like that anyway." Buffy tried to defend herself.
"Right."
"Angel."
"What?"
"Okay you guys. You can stop it any time now." Faith rolled her eyes at them.
"I'm going to go get ready. It's been like...forever since we went out to dinner. I'm really excited." Dawn got up and went upstairs.
"You sure you're actually going to come?" Willow asked Buffy.
"Yeah. You guys are right. We do need a little fresh air and a break. I'm going." Buffy replied.
"Good. You've been so worried lately. It will be could for us to get out."
"I know. Angel doesn't really need the fresh air, but I'm all for it." Xander added.
"Hey, just becasue I don't need it doesn't mean I don't like to get out every now and then." Angel responded.
"Bet you do."
"I'm going to go get ready too. I don't think...wait. What am I saying. Sunnydale's a big hole in the ground. I lived there and so did my clothes. What am I going to wear?" Willow asked.
"I can find something of mine or Cordelia's. She left her...clothes here." Fred walked into the lobby.
"Okay, um...thanks."
'I'll show you where it is. I hope you can find something nice to wear. Where are you going?"
"Not sure yet."
"Oh..."
"Fred, you can come too." Angel told Fred.
"Really? And Wesley and Gunn?" She asked.
"Uh...sure. Why not? Let's take the whole gang. The new one."
"Cool." Fred smiled and then went upstairs with Willow to help her find something to wear.
"I should take shower first. I'm pretty gross. You do have a shower, right?" Buffy asked.
"Yes." Angel replied. "You can use mine."
"Thanks." Buffy got up to go take a shower.
"Well, if everyone's else is getting ready I should too." Xander got up and went to his room upstairs.
"Looks like it's just you and me, Angel." Faith put her legs up on the table in front of her.
"No, it doesn't." Angel got up and went into his room to get ready.
"Fine. Be that way." Faith got up also and walked upstairs.
About twenty minutes later Buffy was out of the shower and in her room. She had picked something of Cordelia's to wear. That fact would haunt her forever. Never before would she have even considered wearing anything of Cordelia's. All through high school Cordelia had been rude, disrespectful, and arrogant. Buffy's style was totally different from hers, but there she was wearing a skirt and blouse that had once belonged to Cordelia.
That aside, Buffy was actually looking forward to a night out. Things had been so stressful lately that it would be good for everyone to have a nice break. Plus, she was craving food. She hadn't eaten a whole lot in the past month or so. Food was something everyone needed and Buffy wanted it more than ever.
Buffy looked at the clock on her bedside table. The time was 6:15pm. She sighed and closed her eyes. They weren't going to leave for about another twenty minutes or so anyway. She could try to take a nice, quick nap right now. However, that nap wasn't nice at all for she was having dreams again.
Buffy sat up in her bed and pushed to covers off of her. She got up and walked across the room. She then pulled the curtains back and looked out of the window. The day was dark and boring. There were a few people outside going to jobs and a few people were in their cars.
"Ever since the sun stopped shining most people don't even bother to go about their daily activities. It's sad really, to have to see them suffer. All that darkness. Vampires roaming around 24-7 and all of those people in danger. You can't save 'em all, can you Buffy?" Buffy's mother walked up behind her and placed her hand on Buffy's shoulder. "It's okay to sit here and watch. There is no possible way to save them all. Some will die and there's nothing you can do to stop it. My magic is powerful and the sun's not coming back for quite some time."
"Why? Why are you doing any of this?" Buffy turned around to face her mother.
"Why? I never realized my own daughter was so foolish and naive."
"Just answer my question."
"Why do you think I'm doing the things that I'm doing?"
"I don't know. You look like my mother, have her memories, and sound like my mother. However, I...I know you're not her."
"Here we go again. You're so tired you don't even think I'm really me."
"I am tired, but I'm not stupid. What...who are you?"
"You'll find out in time. Until then...you'll have to just be patient and in time...the answer will come."
"I'm sick of all of that cryptic stuff. Shut up."
"Ooh...got quite a mouth on you uh?" Buffy's mother began laughing.
"You're the one who gave it to me."
"Oh, that's where you're wrong. I would never speak that way to an adult."
"You desearve it."
"Buffy, I love you and do not want to have to hurt you. It doesn't mean that I won't. Someone has to teach you manners." Buffy's mom threw Buffy across the room and Buffy landed on the floor with a loud thud. She didn't move.
"Buffy, wake up." Dawn lightly shook Buffy. "We're getting ready to leave. You coming?"
Buffy opened her eyes and was relieved to see Dawn. "Yes. I'm...coming." She stood up and put on some shoes. "Do you know where we're going?"
"Not sure."
"Oh."
"Were you having one of those weird dreams about mom again?"
"Yeah."
"Ooooh. Was it bad?"
"No, not really. I don't want to talk about it though Dawn. I just want to go out and have one night of fun. I don't want to worry about anything."
"Yeah. Okay...let's go."
"Who's all coming?"
"Me, you, Angel, Fred, Gunn, Willow, Faith and Xander. Everyone else decided to stay here wit the potentials."
"That's um...good. I was just wondering what we would do if we had to take every single person out." Buffy and Dawn walked downstairs where everyone was waiting. They then piled into Angel's car. It was a very tight fit, but they managed the squeeze.
Ten minutes later they arrived at a very nice restaurant. Buffy, Dawn, Angel, Xander, Willow, Faith, Fred and Gunn got out of Angel's car and into the restaurant. It was pretty empty and a waitress sat them immediately.
"This is so cool." Dawn said as she took her seat.
"It is way cool." Xander agreed. "I should've worn at tux."
"Yeah...we really like it here. This is...about our third time coming here, I think." Fred smiled.
"I had no idea we were going some where so...nice. I would've worn a dress." Buffy looked down at the outfit she had on.
"You look fine, Buffy. Beautiful in fact." Angel took her hand.
"You guys aren't going to start that mushy crap are you? We're in public." Gunn teased.
"Aww...I think it's sweet." Willow smiled.
The waitress who had seated them came over to take their order. She handed them all menus and took out a pad and pen. She waited a few minutes before she asked: "What can I get you to drink?"
"Water's fine." Angel was the first to speak.
"Sweet tea." Dawn replied.
"I'll have tea also." Buffy responded.
"Water." Was Willow's response.
"Ooh...sweet tea, please." Fred added.
"Water." Gunn said as he began looking at the menu.
"Water." Xander replied.
"Oh, what the hell. I'll have some wine. All this sweet tea and water crap is bugging me." Faith responded.
"Okay that's four waters, three teas, and one wine. Oh and would that be red or white?" The waitress asked Faith.
"Doesn't matter to me. Wine is wine." Faith replied.
"Okay then. I'll be back soon with your drinks. Go ahead an think about what you want to eat." The waitress left and was back in five minutes with the drinks. She took everyone's order and then left.
It took the gang about one hour to eat and get back to the hotel. When they arrived at the Hyperion everyone was nice and relaxed. Their mind was off of all of the events that happened the days before. They were all glad that they took a break. As they entered they sinced something wrong though. Everyone in the lobby looked sad and Buffy was the one who spoke up.
"What happened?" She asked seeing the alarm in Gile's eyes.
"It's...I'm...Kennedy...sh'es." Giles was unable to finish his sentence.
"Oh no. What happened to her?" Willow asked her eyes growing wide with fear.
"She's...she's...upstairs in her room."
"I'm going to find out what's going on then." Willow ran up the stairs and into Kennedy's room. Buffy and the others were quickly at her heels. "Oh my God!"
"Will, what...oh." Buffy looked at the floor where Kennedy lied. There was blood all over her, the floor, the walls, and the bed. She was dead. Buffy looked over at Willow and she was about to melt.
Willow ran over to Kennedy and knelt down beside of her. She rolled Kennedy over so that she could see her face. Willow's eyes filled up with tears right away. Kennedy had been stabbed multiple times and looked even worse than Principle Wood had been. Willow put her arms around Kennedy and proped her up against the bed. Then for a she just stared at her for a moment.
"Why?" Willow cried out, "why? Why the hell did this have to happen to me? First it...was...Tara and now Kennedy? If I get close to anyone they have to die. Oh baby...oh baby please...please...please don't leave me. No...I need you. Kennedy..." Willow began to sob uncontrolably. She chanted some words the rest of the group didn't recognize. "I order you to bring her back! She didn't desearve to die!" A blue image appeared in the room and spoke.
"What is done is done. We have been through this once before, Willow. I cannot do anything to change what has happened. It was her time." The blue image dissapeared.
"No!" Willow screamed and continued crying. "Bring her back!" She stood up and began raging with power. Her roots wer begining to turn black. Xander walked over to her.
"Willow, you don't want to do this." He got closer to her.
"Stop. Don't do that stupid yellow crayon thing again, okay? Just...go away!" Willow waved her hand and Xander flew across the room. He hit the wall and fell down on the floor.
"I think I'm going to step in here. Willow, you said yourself that if you go all evil again, for us to stop you. Don't do this." Buffy walked over to Buffy.
"You don't know anything. You don't know what I'm going through."
"I know, I know. You just need to calm down."
"Calm down? How can I calm down?"
"Shhh..." Buffy reached out and held her friend close. "It's going to be okay."
"No...no...I...I..." Willow started crying again and Buffy hugged her tighter.
"It's okay. It's okay. It's going to be okay."
"I...I..." Willow continued to cry, but her hair turned back red. She clung to Buffy and cried.
