"We're not going to get far if we have to carry him, " Oz pointed out. They hadn't made it much further away from the mansion, mainly due to the unconscious Xander.
"Unfortunately, we can't get your van here right away. I don't suppose you have a cell phone on you?"
Oz shook his head, letting Xander slide down a little. "Well, I can carry him--super Slayer strength and all. It might make us move a little faster."
She looked at Xander's watch. "Unh." She grunted at the same time, shifting Xand off of Oz. "It's only about eight. That didn't take very long." He was silent. They kept walking.
They picked up speed a little, but not much. Finally, Xander coughed a little. "He's waking up." Buffy stopped and put him down.
"Hey..." Xander blinked a little.
"Can you walk?"
"Angel, buddy, hate to break it to you, but you're starting to sound like Buffy." His voice was shaky, but getting stronger with every sentence. She slapped him. "Ow!" His eyes snapped open.
"I am Buffy." She glared at him.
"Well, that would explain that."
"Can you walk?" she repeated.
"Yeah. Dead boy didn't take much out of me before he knocked me out."
"It wasn't blood loss, then."
"No. He just wanted it to look that way. I can walk, but I'm going to have a headache in the morning."
"It is morning," she pointed out.
"And thus the headache."
He stood up, then wobbled a little. "I can walk... After the trees stop spinning." She grabbed him before he could fall again.
"Xander! We need to get moving."
"Okay. I'm fine, I'm fine." He stopped shaking and she let him go.
They started walking again, but had to slow down for Xander. The sun kept rising. "It didn't take half this long to get here," Buffy pointed out to Oz.
"Well, of course not. You're super-girl, and he's wolf-boy. But I am crippled mortal."
"Your jokes are better when you're more awake," noticed Oz.
"I suppose it's too much to hope for that the others could figure out where we were somehow," mumbled Buffy.
"Probably," agreed Xander. "How'd you guys find me, anyway?" "Oz tracked you."
"You mean with the smell and the.... Yuck! What do I smell like, exactly?"
"Like Xander."
"Yeah, that makes sense."
They kept walking. Xander's strength picked up. They got back to the high school, finally, just in time to see Principal Snyder.
"Cutting classes, Summers?"
"No, sir."
"Leaving school grounds without an excuse."
"I... I slept in."
"Until one o'clock? Detention, Summers. Same to you, Harris... Osbourne."
"Yes, sir." Buffy looked at the ground. Principal Snyder glared around at them all again for a moment before leaving.
"That's just great. I get my blood sucked by an evil fiend, get knocked out, and now I've got detention."
"Rodent man," Buffy grumbled under her breath.
"Technically, we were cutting class... It's just that Snyder found us before we found Giles."
"The school's very own cat and mouse game." Buffy cracked a smile at that, looking between Xander and Oz.
"We may as well go and find Giles anyway. Tell him that you're okay and all."
"I am not okay! Your evil ex tried to kill me!"
"Do you need to go to the hospital?"
"You mean with the needles and the poking and the mushy food?"
"Kind of like school... But yeah."
"And the needles and the poking? I'm fine," he declared.
They went into the library.
"Giles?"
"Buffy. Oz. And... Xander. Thank goodness you're all safe."
"Angel's evil," Xander announced.
"You just got this memo when? Anyway, Giles, I got him out, but Angel's going to be pissed now. I had to knock out Darla and threaten Drusilla to do it. Spike won't be happy, but he's not all that threatening."
"Quite right. Um..." He took off his glasses and polished them.
"What'd you see at the museum?"
"A... A rock, actually. But I've gone through the books, and have reason to believe that it's the tomb of Acathla. If opened, it will cause the end of the world."
"Ouch. Can I officially say, not fun." Xander looked around.
"So. Apocalypse time again, huh?"
"You might say that, yes."
"Any special way to tell who's going to open the giant egg?"
"Erm, only someone who's completely evil can open the tomb, sending the earth to hell. There's a ritual to complete first, but..."
"Completely evil. Let's think about this. Who do we know that's completely evil?"
"Yes, there's Angelus. But Buffy... Do remember that the vampires are rising again. It could be Luke, it could be the master... It could be Drusilla, or some lower minion, even."
"Drusilla? Try completely insane."
"She is still dangerous, Buffy. Her insanity does not detract from her... Her problems. In fact, it augments them."
"He's right, you know. Drusilla's not going to be happy that you used her as bait, once she figures it out."
"I don't want her happy. I want her dust. Same goes for all of them."
