The next day was spent searching for Ethan Rayne. Wesley joined in, saying that Ethan was the reason he was there. “Cordy’s visions usually take place within a couple of hours after she’s had them. What makes this one different?” Angel asked. “Well, if Ethan dies, then he won’t be able to reverse the spell. Also, if we don’t find him by tonight, he’ll die.” Everyone upped the effort to find Ethan.
They broke up into small groups. Giles and Tara stayed at the Magic Box to run the shop. Everyone else spread out, looking anywhere they thought Ethan could be. Amazingly, it was Xander and Willow who found Ethan. Xander and Willow were checking out the docks, and saw Ethan trying to finagle himself onto a merchant ship. Xander and Willow raced over, and grabbed Ethan. “Oh damn, I was afraid of this. I really do need to learn to just do the damage and leave,” Ethan said. Willow and Xander dragged Ethan back to the Magic Box.
They found everyone else already there. Ethan looked around at all the girls, and said, “Wow, I do good work.” The comment was rewarded with a slap in the head by Giles. “I can’t believe you would do something like this,” Giles said. “Ripper, is that you? If I were just a little bit younger,” Ethan started, but stopped when Buffy punched him in the nose. “Buffy, how lovely to see you again,” Ethan said, holding his hose with a handkerchief. “Ethan, I wish I could say the same thing. Now, the only reason I’m not killing you is that we need you,” Buffy said. “Oh, you mean this spell? It’ll wear off in a couple of days. I just tweaked the spell so that it wasn’t permanent,” Ethan said with a nasty grin. Buffy took one look at him, and knocked him out. ‘What do we do with him now?” “I have a very good idea what to do with him,” Willow said with a secretive smile.
A couple of hours later, Willow and Tara returned from the Sunnydale Memorial Hospital, grins on their faces. “So, you were successful?” Wesley asked. “Yes,” Tara replied, “We took him to the hospital, and told them that he was abandoned on our front lawn. They took one look at him, and fell in love. They promised to find him a good home.” “Will he remember anything from this life?” Xander asked. “No, the spell was designed to give someone a clean slate. Ethan won’t remember a thing,” Willow said. “You know, I feel kinda sorry for him; he didn’t have the best life. If he had a better family, and made better choices, his life would’ve been very different,” Giles said. “Well, then, I hope Ethan enjoys this second chance that he is getting,” Tara said. “Just in case, we’ll try to keep a close eye on him for a while,” Giles said.
The next few days passed all too slowly for everyone. On their last day as girls, the real girls convinced them to pose for some pictures. Buffy, Dawn, Willow, Tara, and Sam wanted pictures of the guys, something to remember it by. They got the ‘girls’ all dressed up, and then went into the backyard for pictures. Giles, Riley, Xander, Spike, and Angel each wore a different color. Giles wore green, Riley red, Xander pink, Spike blue, and Angel wore white. The girls took picture of each ‘girl’ separately, and then they took a few of the whole group. Buffy went to get the pictures developed, and then went to have enough copies made for everyone. She took them home, passed them out, and then joined in the laughter.
Angel woke groggily, and looked around the living room. He smiled as he noticed that everyone was back to normal. When he noticed that he was in direct sunlight, and not bursting into flame, he realized that he was human. Spike was having a similar experience. Riley, Xander, and Giles had all woken up, and were staring intently at Spike and Angel. Wesley came into the living room, and found all the guys just standing around. “What’s going on?” Wesley asked. “It seems that Spike and I are human,” Angel said. “It would seem as though Ethan’s spell, when it wore off, turned all of us back into human males. I don’t think it was specifically meant for vampires,” Giles said with a smile.
Suddenly, all the girls came bursting into the living room. “What’s all the commotion?” Buffy asked. “Angel and Spike are human,” Xander said. Buffy’s face lit up, and she ran to Angel, and kissed him soundly on the lips. Everyone rejoiced in the news. Willow and Tara did a major spell that allowed Spike and Angel to exist. Suddenly, two file folders dropped onto the coffee table. Angel and Spike opened them to find birth certificates, social security cards, transcripts, degrees, and drivers licenses. “Wait, William Rosenburg? I’m your older brother?” Spike asked. “Okay, that wasn’t me,” Willow said. “That’s nothing; I’m Angel Finn,” Angel said. “You’re my brother?” Riley asked. “Older brother,” Angel said smugly. “Why are we now suddenly related to these people? Shouldn’t we be able to pick who we’re related to?” Spike asked. “I think it’s just The Powers that Be’s sense of humor showing through,” Willow said. “So, if I were to go home with you, your parents would call me ‘son’ and treat me as if I were theirs?” Spike asked. Willow nodded. Spike thought for a moment, then smiled. “So, what’s with all the memories?” Riley asked. “It’s the same concept that was used when Dawn was created,” Willow said. “I get it, they created memories for us,” Angel said. “Not just us, but anyone who could have come in contact with either Angel or Spike. So, professors, and family will all have memories of you guys,” Tara said with a smile. Angel and Spike both sat down on the couch; there was a lot to take in.
Later that afternoon, people were saying their good-byes. Wesley was headed back to LA, where he would tell Cordelia, Gunn, and Fred the latest development. Riley and Sam were headed off to places unknown, fighting the good fight in their own way. Spike was off to find himself. “Tell Mom and Dad that I’ll write,” Spike said with a grin. Willow smiled and nodded. Angel was going to take his History degree, and get a teaching job at Sunnydale High. He and Buffy would wait a while, let Angel get settled, and then get married. Buffy knew this; she could see it in his eyes.
Everyone stayed very close, and each of them had pictures of what had happened during those five days that made them so close. And, I guess you could say that they all lived happily ever after.
