Chapter One: My First Patrol
January 15, 2020
My name is Joan Summer's. I honestly don't know why I'm writing in this stupid diary anyway. I think it's stupid to write down stuff about my day and my feelings. I recently had my birthday though and my present from my mom was this diary. I think it would hurt her feelings if I just put it in some drawer and never touched it again.

Oh and my mom's name is Buffy Summers. She's a slayer. Someone chosen to fight vampires, demons and the forces of darknes. Blah, blah, blah. It goes on and on, but that's the basic idea. She's really strong and became the slayer when she was only 15! That's how old I am. I was born in 2005.

Anyway, I'm sure you really don't care about my mom. After all this is my diary and not hers. I want her to train me, but she says I am not ready. Hello! She found out she as the slayer when she was 15 and I can't train? She tought my aunt, Dawn, stuff when she was my age. She's a mom though and it always over protective. She says it's because she loves me, but sometimes I think other wise.

So, I decided to go out on my own little patrol to prove that I am ready to be trained. It was a really bad idea. I'm grounded for one whole year! Only two hours of tv a night and thrity minutes of phone time! It sucks so much!

Buffy and Angel went out to some party tonight and left me home alone. They thought they could trust me and I just let them down. I fell kinda bad acutally...if my mom wouldn't have happened to be near by I would be dead or a sired vampire right now.

It was about seven o' clock when they left, which was perfect timing. I could out on my little patrol, come back, and my parents wouldn't even know the difference. Before I left I had to get a few things together. I grabbed a few of my mom's stakes and put them in a back along with some holy water and a crossbow. I was ready to leave and hoping that I would run into a vampire.

I went out the door and locked it behind me. I had remembered to put the key to the house in my bag that way I could also get back in when I was done. I walked out onto the sidewalk getting more excited with every step. I was going to kick some major vampire butt.

I don't really know what time it was when I got to the cemetary, but it was at least a ten minute walk. I had to wait about fifteen before a vampire actually came out to play. At first I didn't even realize he was a vampire.

I was sitting on a tomb stone, like I had seen my mother do a lot when I used to spy on her, waiting for some action. I was about to give up when I heard footstpes. At first I was very startled, but then I realized I couldn't let him know I was scared. That was just more ammo for him. I learned that from my mom.

"What are you doing out here alone in the dark?" A man had walked up to me and I hadn't even realized it. I turned around to face him thinking he wasn't a vampire. It was stupid of me.

"Just chilling." I responded trying my best to stay calm.

"You shouldn't be out here. There are tons of things lurking in the shadows."

"I can take care of myself."

"Are you sure about that?"

"Why do you care anyway?"

"Fine...fine. I'll guess we'll put your skills to the test."

I just stared at him not knowing exactly what he was talking about. That's when he 'vamped out.' I still can't believe I did what I did, but I let out a little scream. As soon as I did it I regreted it. The vampire just smiled and began moving towards me.

He saw me reach into my back and pull out some holy water. I thought it would catch him off guard, but I was wrong. He only laughed and then lunged at me. I threw the holy water at his face and began burning. He put his hands up to his face. I droped my bag, gripped my stake, and staked him.

I was so happy I had staked him that I didn't even look to see if was the heart. It wasn't. The vampire burst out laughing and then pulled the stake out. He stared at me for a moment wondering what I was going to do next. He then lunged at me again and grabbed me by the throat.

"You trying to pretent to be some kind of slayer or something?" He asked still laughing. "Cause it ai'nt workin' for you at all."

I could barely talk and his grip was getting stronger on my throat. I was able to make one quick reply. It caught him slightly off guard and I was able to kick him.

"No, but I'm her daughter." I responed. The vampire loosened his grip and I kicked him as hard as I could. He fell back and I landed on the ground. I reached into my bag and got out another stake. This time I was hoping I could actually put it through his heart.

The vampire got up and tried to punch me. I blocked it and then punched him in his jaw. He staggard back and I tackled him. I was on top of him now and I held my stake tight. I was about to stake him when another vampire came up behind me, picked me up, and threw me against a tomb stone.

The force was so hard that the tomb stone actually broke him half. I lied on the ground in pain. My back hurt as well as everything else on my body. I then realized that my mom was right. I wasn't ready to be trained or to be in a fight on my own without her.

Both of the vampires got up and came over to me. I tried to stand up so that I could run away, but I was unsuccessful. One reached his hand out and jerked me up by my hair. I cried out in pain and they just laughed.

He then pushed the collar of my shirt down to my shoulder. My eyes grew wide for I knew exactly what he was going to do next. I tried to get free, but I couldn't move. I was in pain and terribly scared.

He sunk his fangs into my neck and I screamed again. I don't really know exactly what happened next, but someone came running. I didn't know it was my mom until I heard her voice.

"Hey! You drop her right now." Buffy called out. She caught up to me and slapped the vampire on his cheeck. He let go of me and went to my mom. She picked up the stake I had left on the ground, kicked the vampire twice, punched him twice, and then she put the stake threw his heart. The vampire exploded into dust.

Then the other vampire lunged at my mom. She ducked and them staked him. She made it look so easy, but I knew that it wasn't. I still can't believe that I was so stupid. She came over to me and hugged me tight. My dad came over too. I hadn't even seen him.

"What the hell do you think you were doing?" Buffy asked me.

I looked at her embarassed and ashamed. "I wanted to prove to you that I was old enough to train with you. I went on a patrol."

"You what?" Angel's eyebrows went up as he looked at me with anger and dissapointment.

"Why did you do this?" Buffy asked.

"I just wanted to fight a vampire." I replied. It hurt me to see how upset they were with me.

"If we hadn't gotten here when we did you would be dead, Joan! God...I...don't even know where to start."

"I thought that because you found out you were the slayer and fifteen and started fighting vampires then I could too."

"Oh, honey. It was different for me. I had special slayer powers and I was extra strong. It was destiny for me, but not for you. You could've been killed!"

"You're mother's right. What you did was stupid. You weren't thinking at all." Angel frowned.

"I'm so sorry." I cried trying to make them not so dissapointed.

"It's a little too late to be sorry. You're grounded for a year. Two hours of tv a day on only thirty minutes on the phone unless you are discussing something related to school." Buffy looked at me waiting for me to respond.

"I agree. You're going to do what we said right?" Angel asked.

"Yes. I'm so sorry. I really am." Tears slowly ran down my cheecks.

"We know." Buffy hugged me tightly again and so did Angel. Then we walked back home.

I still can't believe that I was that stupid. Patroling is so much harder than I thought it was. I though it would be fun and easy. Punch a vampire here, kick him there, then bam drive the stake through his or her heart, and they're dust. Boy was I wrong. It really sucks that I'm grounded for a year. Maybe mom and dad will decide to give me a break. Maybe...
