"My god, it jsut never stops!" Buffy exclaimed as she staked her seventh vampre. "Seven, Angel. I've staked seven vampires in two hours,' she added trying to hide her worry. Something bad was about to go down and the vampires were always the first to know. Angel looked at her and voiced what she'd just thought only moments ago.
"They know something"
"Maybe I should start questioning them before I kill them," she thought aloud as the eighth vampire of the night came at her. She spun and kicked him in the head, disorienting him. She readied herself for the vampire's attack as he scrambled to his feet. He was charging her when she felt it again; the terror she'd experianced the night before. The vampire body slammed her, pinning her to the ground but she couldn't feel it. She was too lost inside her head.
*FLASH* The master, holding her from behind, taunting her, bitting her*FLASH*
Terror shone in her eyes- she was literally paralyzed with fear. Angel knew something was wrong when Buffy didn't move to get t he vampire off of her. He picked up the stake she had dropped, grabbed the vampire by the neck and pulled him off her. He staked the nameless vampire from hebind and moved to see if Buffy was alright. He knelt beside her prone form on the ground.
"Buffy?" he asked gently, looking in her eyes and getting no response. He picked her up and shook her and repeated her name again, only louder. This time he was met with a look of uncertanty.
"Angel?" she questioned, temporarily comming out of her head.
"Come on, come back to me," her replied, holding and rocking her like a china doll. He looked back into her eyes and was only met with a vacant stare.
"Damnit!" he said frustrated as a new voice rang out.
"She won't come out of it, at least, not until I let her." He looked up and his eyes met someone new. She was pretty, with long auburn hair and emerald eyes very similar to Buffy's. She just glared at him, waiting- as if expecting his resonse. He did not fail her.
"Let her go," he demanded, wanting wholly to kill this new peroson but too afraid to leave Buffy.
"Now, now, you didn't ask politely,"she scolded, and looked at him expectantly. Angel gritted his teeth.
"PLEASE, let her go," he groweld. She looked please, and in the next moment, Buffy's arms were thrown around Angel's neck, and he was very glad he didn't have to breathe.
"Well, that was interesing," the stranger mused. Buffy let go of Angel and turned to face the new person. When she spoke her voice shook slightly.
"Who are you?" she asked, all but cowering in Angel's arms.
"That's a good question. I like the name Anna," came her strange reply.
"What the hell does that mean?" Buffy snapped, not wanting to play games.
"I don't have a name, but since people in this dimention insist upon having a name for everything, I had to come up with something," she replied. Buffy finally stood up and faced her new opponent.
"Well ANNA, I suggest you get the hell out of town now or next time we meet, you won't need to worry about having a name," Buffy said, her voice full of venom.
"And how do you propose you'll do that when I can have you on the ground, cowering in terror with just a look?" asked Anna.
"I'll kill you," Angel growled menancingly.
"You think it's just the slayer's fear I can manipulate? I'm just getting started," Anna replied dangerously, and as if to prove something , she closed her eyes. Angel began to charge her- which is when her eyes snapped open and settled on him with fury. In the next moment he was on the ground, screaming in what Buffy assumed was pain. She was beside him in an instan. As soon as it came, it was gone. Buffy looked up angrily, ready to rip Anna a new one, but she was gone, and she finally understood.
"Are you alright?" she asked Angel gently.
"No, but I will be," he replied.
"Come on," Buffy said pulling Angel up. "We need to see Giles." And with that they set off towards the school for what looked to be a long night.
