Chapter Four: It's gone!
The next day Buffy was up early. She hadn't slept very well at all. More dreams similar to the one she had yesterday haunted her. In each dream the person who came to her in the graveyard was different. Once it was the Mayor, Glory, Tara, Adam, Spike, and lastly Riley.
Buffy didn't understand while Riley was in her dream. She hadn't thought about him or seen him for a little over a year. He had visited her bringing his wife with him. All of the other people were dead...but as far as Buffy knew, Riley wasn't.
Buffy sighed as she got up. She hoped that Angel was awake so she could talk to him about the symbol. Maybe if he knew what demon it belonged to, it would be the demon she was dreaming about. There was only one way to find out and that was to ask him.
Buffy closed the door quiety, trying not to make a sound. It the others were still asleep she didn't want to disturb them. If they were sleeping peacefully, so be it. She was pretty sure that Angelw would be up though. He usually got up pretty early.
Buffy walked down the stairs very quietly. She got down into the lobby and began looking for Angel. She found him sitting in a chair, reading the newspaper, and sipping a mug of blood. He looked so relaxed, so peaceful. It was hard to believe that she was so anxious inside.
"Hey. You do this every morning or is today special?" Buffy asked sitting beside of Angel.
Angel looked up at Buffy and smiled. "I do it pretty much every morning before everyone else gets awake. It's my time to relax. Why are you up so early?"
"Couldn't sleep. I was having dreams. They really bothered me."
"What kind of dreams?"
"To sum it up I'm walking in the graveyard. Someone dead comes up to me as if it were the First. But, it's not because they can touch me. Then they say they're back stronger than ever and that they're going to kill me. I had about five or six different ones. The story was basically the same, but a different person approached me. The firsrt person was my mom and the last was Riley."
"Sounds interesting." Angel sipped some more of his blood.
"Yeah. I think they mean something, but Giles isn't so sure. He thinks that it might just be because I just faught the First and it's on my mind."
"That could be true, but your dreams do seem to be prophecies most of the time. I wouldn't doubt that someone or something is trying to tell you something."
"That's what I'm thinking as well. Oh and before we came here we hit something on the bus. We couldn't find anything but there was a strange symbol burned on the bus. I was going to show it to you to see if you recognize it."
"Okay. I'll make sure to take a look at it. I'll have to wait until the sun goes down unless you want to draw it on a piece of paper."
"That's okay. My drawing skills aren't up to par. Besides, I might forget some important details."
Angel smiled and sipped some more of his blood. "Things have been really quiet around here lately. I hope it stays that way and that the symbol and your dreams really don't mean anything. However, considering you saw the symbol and had the dreams...something probably is going on."
"Lucky me." Buffy smiled and Angel smiled back at her. "So...you been doing okay?"
"Fine."
"That's um...good."
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Just a little shaky about the dreams, but I'll be okay. I just hope there really isn't a new evil."
"That would be nice."
"So you work with Wesley, Fred, and Gunn now?"
"Yeah. I think we make a good team."
Buffy looked down at the floor. She thought that seeing and talking to Angel would help her relax, but for some reason it made her tense and uncomfortable. She curled up on the couch and rested her head. When she first woke up she wasn't tired at all. Now she could barely keep her eyes open. Even though Buffy didn't really want to sleep any more, she let her eyes cloed. Her sleep was filled with more dreams.
Buffy struggled to get free. She was chained to a wall in a dark basement some where. Just five minutes ago she had awaken. Her memory was very fuzzy and she couldn't remember how she got where she was.
The air was cool and Buffy was cold in her tank top and jeans. She pulled on the chains again, but they were too tight. She sighed and took a break for a while. She stood up, to stretch her legs, and looked around her. She studied her sorrounding trying to figure out exactly where she was.
The basement was dark and the walls and floor were cement. Across from her there was a wooden table with many utensils on it. All of them were stained with blood. She assumed that whoever lived here must have been up to some torturing. She hoped that person, demon, or vampire wasn't planning on doing the same thing to her.
Buffy didn't know how long she had been in that basement, but she was growing hungry and thirsty. There was nothing in the room, but the chains and the wooden table. She hoped that the person, demon, or vampire holding her captive didn't plan on killing her and that he or she would bring her some water.
It was like someone read her thoughts because just then she heard a door open. Then she heard footsteps that grew louder every second. Someone was coming down the stairs. Buffy knew it wasn't a vampire or demon and this made her more curious. The person just looked like a dark shadow. Then they came into the light and she saw their face.
"Hey, baby. I bet you're pretty thirsty. You've been down her for at least a day." Her mother smiled and handed her some water.
"A day?" Buffy hadn't realized how long she had actually been in the basement.
"Yeah. You slept for a really long time. I bet you were pretty tired after you put up such a fight."
"What fight?" Buffy stared at her mother.
"You don't remember, do you?"
"No. I can't say that I do."
"You were patroling and I came to you in the graveyard. You acted like you didn't recognize your own mother. You began punching and kicking me as if I were some kind of demon," Her mother paused and then laughed. "I had to knock you out to bring you here."
"Why did you chain me up?"
"To keep you from hurting yourself. You came to pretty quickly. As soon as we got here you were awake again punching and kicking like before. I had to knock you out again."
"I don't understand..."
"Of course you don't. This is all so knew to you. You haven't been getting any sleep. I brought you here, Buffy, so you could rest. You need to rest if you want to fight the evil."
"What is the...what's going on?"
"It's actually a really long story. I don't want to bore you. I'm going unlock the chains so you can drink some water. If you try to leave, I'll just have to hurt you again. I don't want to do that."
"Fine. Unchain me."
Buffy's mother walked over to her and unchained her. Buffy rubbed her hands and looked at the red marks on them. They were sore and it hurt to move them. Her mother handed her a glass of water and Buffy drank it very quickly.
"That's my girl." Buffy's mother smiled. "I knew you would cooperate."
"Where are my friends?" Buffy asked.
"You mean Xander and WIllow."
"And Giles and Dawn and Angel and everyone else."
"Oh."
"Well?"
Xander and Willow are here. I do not know where the others are."
"Xand and Will are here?"
"Yes."
"Can I see them?"
"Sure. I was just about to bring them down." Buffy's mother went up the stairs and returned with Xander and Willow. They were both gagged and their hands were bound. They were bruised and Buffy could tell they had been beaten.
"What did you do to them?" Buffy asked her hands forming fists down by her side.
"Nothing, sweetie. I was just having a little fun." Buffy's mother jerked Willow up by her hair and threw her agains the wall.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"You'll see soon enough." Buffy's mother laughed and then dissapeard.
Buffy woke up and kicked the table in front of her. She was sweating and breathing very hard. She ran her fingers through her hair and tried to calm down. Why had she just had that dream? Why was her mother torturing Xander and Willow and why did she chain her to the wall?
Angel put down took the last sip of her blood and put it down. He had seen Buffy jump and kick the table. He saw that she was sweating and that she was breathing hard. There was fear in her eyes. Angel reached out and put his arm around Buffy. He tried to calm her down.
"It's okay. You're awake now. It was just a dream, Buffy." He drew her close.
"I know but...it...was horrible. I don't know what's going on Angel and I'm starting to beleive that whatever it is, it's really serious."
"Shhh...we'll worry about it later. Let me take a look at that symbol. You've been asleep for a really long time. The sun isn't strong enough to hurt me now. It's almost dark."
"Okay...um...yeah." Buffy and Angel stood up then went outside. Buffy led Angel to the front of the bus and pointed to the spot the symbol was in.
"Where is it?" Angel asked again searching the entire bus.
"It's right..." Buffy started to point again, but then realized Angel was confused. "There's nothing here."
"Yeah. You sure you saw something?"
"Yes...it was a "x" but the lines were curved. It had a star in th middle and it was burned onto the bus. I know it was here. Giles saw it too...it can't just be gone."
"I don't know, Buffy. I mean you're right. I believe that it was here, but it's not now. There's nothing we can do. I think it's time we all got together and had a little talk."
"I agree." Buffy and Angel went back inside and got everyone together for a meeting.
