Buffy opened the door to the crypt. "Spike?" She heard him arguing with someone downstairs.
"I'm telling you, they aren't mine," Spike growled. "A friend of mine wants me to watch them."
"Once I destroy those eggs, you'll be next," Riley said.
Buffy eyes widened and she jumped to the lower level.
Spike looked at her. "Hey Pet," he said, softly.
Buffy smiled at him. "Hi."
Riley looked back and forth between them. "Buffy, I really appreciate you coming to help, but I can kill a neutered vampire all on my own," he said.
Buffy heard the crypt door open and then Sam's voice. "Riley?"
"Down here, Sam!" Riley called.
Sam carefully made her way to the lower level and as soon as her eyes landed on Spike, she attacked him.
Buffy watched as Sam and Spike sprawled to the floor. She went to help but Riley held her back. "Riley let me go!" Buffy screamed. Tears came to her eyes as Sam's stake came down. "SPIKE!"
Spike rolled at the last second and kicked Sam in the stomach. He screamed in pain as the chip went off.
Buffy turned and punched Riley in the nose. She ran to Spike's side and helped him into bed. "You okay?" She asked, sitting next to him.
"Yeah," Spike said, his voice giving away how much pain he was actually in.
Buffy looked at Riley and Sam. "You can destroy the eggs and then we're gunna talk," she said, pulling the covers over Spike.
Riley and Sam performed some sort of spell and the eggs slowly vanished.
Buffy kissed Spike softly. "I'll be right back," she said, going upstairs with Riley and Sam. "What the hell is your problem!?"
"He's a vampire," Sam said.
"It's my job to kill vampires," Buffy flared. "Not yours."
"We're demon hunters," Sam said, crossing her arms.
"Not here. This is my turf so you do as I say," Buffy growled.
"Why are you defending him?" Riley asked.
"Because," Buffy said, quietly. "Next to Dawn he means everything to me."
"You're sleeping with him?" Riley said in disgust.
"So?" Buffy asked. "It's none of your business."
"My god Buffy. Didn't you learn with Angel?" Riley flared.
Buffy slapped Riley across the face. "Spike's different."
Downstairs, Spike was grinning like an idiot as he listened to Buffy defend him.
Sam went to her husbands side. "Maybe we should go."
"I think that would be a good idea," Buffy said, disappearing downstairs. She climbed in beside Spike. "You okay?"
"Headaches going away," Spike said, sitting up.
"Do you think you can do something for me?" Buffy asked.
"Like what?" Spike asked.
"You have to help me get these clothes off," Buffy whimpered.
Spike smiled and climbed out of bed. "Come 'ere," he said, softly.
Buffy went over and stood in front of him. "I don't remember how I put it on."
Spike turned her around and found a release. Carefully he peeled the sticky material off of her and handed her one of his t-shirts.
Buffy put on his t-shirt as he looked for a pair of jeans. She somehow managed to get her ninja gear off and into the jeans Spike handed her. "Thank you,'' she said, softly. She flopped on the bed and sighed.
Spike sat next to her. "You alright Luv?"
Buffy turned and curled into him. "Just tired," she whispered.
"You should get some sleep then," Spike said.
Buffy smiled and closed her eyes. She mumbled something strange but Spike caught the word 'cold' and got up to grab his duster. He covered her gently and pushed her hair away from her face. He sprawled out next to her and both of them slept.

Buffy woke a few hours later and smiled at Spike's sleeping form. She realized the impact of Riley's visit and she thought about her feelings. She reached her hand out and gently ran it down his cheek.
Spike's eyes fluttered open. "Hey," he said, softly.
Buffy smiled. "How you feeling?" She asked.
"I'm okay. What about you?" He asked, rolling on to his back.
Buffy shifted and straddled him. "We gotta talk," she said. "About us."
Spike raised an eyebrow. "You're not gunna hit me are you?" He asked.
Buffy shook her head. "No. But don't interrupt okay? I have a lot to say."
Spike nodded. "Promise."
Buffy took a deep breath as the love in his eyes consumed her. "I'm scared. I've been scared for months. When Willow brought me back, I was confused. I liked being around you. I didn't have to pretend to be okay. You didn't try and make it better either. We used to be friends and when we kissed, I got even more scared. I didn't wanna let you into my heart because I didn't want you to leave. You made me feel like no one ever has and I couldn't ignore it. Didn't really want to." Tears flowed down her face as she continued. "I'm not the same girl you fell in love with, Spike. I'm not the same as I was. Tara said I came back different. I'm a different girl then the one you guys buried. I don't know how to be the old Buffy." She sniffled a little. "The more I try to be okay, the more lost and scared I get. God," Buffy said, looking up. "Dawn's even falling apart and making things so much harder," she whimpered.
Spike pushed himself up and pulled Buffy into his arms. "Shhh," he whispered.
Buffy slumped against him and cried. "I didn't mean to treat you so bad. I just... I need you so much."
"I'm not going anywhere," he whispered, stroking her hair. He gently pushed her away. "What's going on with you and Dawn?"
"If she doesn't get her act together, I'm gunna lose her," Buffy whispered.
"She will. Promise," Spike said, kissing her hair softly.
The door of the crypt opened. "Spike?" Came Dawn's voice.
Spike looked at Buffy and she nodded. "Down her Nibblet!" He called.
Dawn carefully came down the ladder. "Spike, Buffy's..." Dawn paused looking at her sister in Spike's lap. "Never mind."
"Hey Dawnie," Buffy said, not moving from Spike's lap.
Dawn raised an eyebrow at them. "So the two of you have been keeping secrets?"
Buffy sighed. "Dawn, it's not like that."
"Buffy, I'm your sister," Dawn said, crossing her arms.
Buffy eased out of Spike's grasp and went over to her sister. "I know that. I just didn't understand it myself," Buffy said.
Dawn turned to Spike. "You promised not to keep things from me," she said.
"So did you," Spike said.
"I'm not keeping things from you," Dawn said.
Spike sat on the edge of his bed. "Come here," he said, softly.
Dawn went over and stood in front of him.
Spike held Dawn's hands and looked at her. "Nibblet, are you getting into trouble? Tell me the truth," he said.
Dawn looked down at the ground. "No," she whispered.
Spike lifted her gaze a little. "You promise?"
Tears welled in Dawn's eyes.
"I'll take that as a no," Spike said. "What's going on?"
"I've been stealing and skipping school," Dawn whispered, avoiding his eyes.
"Why?" Spike asked.
Dawn shrugged. "Didn't think anyone would care. No one pays any attention to me. Buffy's never around. You and I never do stuff. The only way I can get any attention is by getting in trouble," she said.
Spike stood up. "Nibblet, this has got to stop," he said, softly.
Dawn turned and looked at him. "Sorry," she whimpered.
Spike wrapped his arms around her. "It's okay. No more stealing but things need to be sorted out," he said, stroking her hair.
Buffy raised an eyebrow as Dawn nodded against him.
"Okay," Dawn said, softly.
"Dawn," Buffy said, going up to them. "Is Riley at the house?"
Dawn pulled away from Spike. "Yeah. That's why I came looking fro you. He's really mad."
Spike rolled his eyes.
Buffy sighed. "Well, he's just gunna have to get over it. Spike, where did I put my shoes?" She asked, digging through the crypt.
"I don't know, Luv," Spike said.
"Got 'em," Buffy said. "Come on. I'm sick of this crap. Dawn, go upstairs for a minute."
Spike watched as Dawn climbed the ladder and looked at Buffy. "What are you doing?" He asked, sighing.
"We, as in me, Dawn, and you, are going home. I'm sick of lying and sneaking around. It's not fair to you, Tara, or anyone else so hurry up and lets go."

About 15 minutes later, they were on Buffy's front porch. Buffy's hand was in Spike's and it took the whole way home to get Dawn to stop asking questions. Buffy and Spike walked in the door hand in hand, and all chatter came to a complete stop as they noticed the slayer and vampire.
"Uh.. Buff? Why are you holding Spike's hand?" Xander asked.
"'Cause I've been seeing Spike. I've been seeing him for a while and I thought it was time for every one to know," Buffy said, getting a squeeze from Spike's hand.
Dawn squealed and hugged her sister and vampire. "This is so cool."
Xander frowned. "Willow, did you do a spell?"
"No, Xander," Buffy said, before Willow could. "This is real."
Tara smiled, showing her support.
Willow looked a little skeptical. "Buffy, I'm happy for you but we tried this already."
Buffy clenched her fist. "Spike, is not Angel. They are totally different. Besides, Angel's the past. Spike's the present and future," she said. "What exactly did Riley say?"
"I thought since I couldn't convince you that you were making a mistake, I thought they could," Riley said, standing in the living room.
Buffy glared at him. "Since when do you get to tell me who I date?"
"Since I know you," Riley said.
"I'm the same girl. Riley there's a lot you don't know about cuz you left," Buffy said. "I lost my mom. I found her dead on the couch. Then, Glory took Dawn. You have no idea what we went through during that situation. I had to sacrifice myself to save Dawn, and Willow brought me back, but I'm not the same. I'm the same girl you left. I'm the same girl Angel loved. I'm not the same girl they buried. I'm also not the same girl Spike fell in love with, but his feelings didn't change. He stayed because I asked him to keep Dawn safe. He was the first one to find out where I was and what happened to me. He was the only one who could make it better. That scared me because I've been hurt too many times in the past. I need Spike here and I don't think I can live with out him," she finished softly.
Spike lips curved into a soft smile.
Xander looked at him. "Why aren't you more surprised?" He whispered.
"Because she already told me most of that," Spike said, softly.
"So you really love her?" Xander asked.
Spike looked at him. "Yeah I do."
"Buffy, don't you know what you're doing?" Riley snapped. "Vampire. Slayer. You're supposed to kill him, not fuck him."
Spike sprang forward and caught Buffy's arm before she could throw a punch at Riley.
Buffy relaxed slightly. "Get out," she said, coldly.
"Buffy..." Riley began.
"I mean it. Get. Out," she said, before going to the kitchen with Spike.
"Pet, I know you're upset with him but you don't pull your punches when you're angry," Spike said, softly.
"Sorry. God, why can't people just leave me alone?" She mumbled.
Spike wrapped his arms around her. "Because they're worried about you."
"I know. I just don't need everyone trying to take care of me," she whispered into his shoulder.
"That's my job," he said, kissing her hair.
Buffy smiled and leaned up to kiss him softly. "That it is," she said.
