Rupert Giles walked into Willy’s Alibi Room, as if he did it every day but truth was he didn’t. He never went into this bar, but lately he found that he needed to drown he sorrows in something other than tea. He had been through many battles and won them too, but the battle with him was one battle he was losing. He blamed himself everyday. You didn’t do anything, he thought. You didn’t do anything to save her. The painful thought made him wince and wish he had something to drink that he could pour down his throat and forget about everything. But then the other part of him, the part that pulled him down to earth, said there was nothing you could do. He sighed and put a hand through him untidy hair as he sat down in the messy bar. He looked to his right and saw a woman, quite pretty but not gorgeous. She looked familiar, but he didn’t bother racking his brain for any match ups, he just ordered his drink and kept to himself.
The woman looked at him, “Who died?” she asked.
“What?” he asked, not trying to be as he once was and using phrases like ‘Pardon me’
“You look as if someone died, who?”
For a minute Giles wondered if this woman was stupid, she was obviously a vampire and she could probably tell if he was too, which he wasn’t, but why would she talk to him or care?
“Uh...no one” he paused “It’s just”
“What?” she asked her eyes were penetrating.
“I miss someone very much and I don’t know where that person is” Giles said and took a swig of beer.
“Girlfriend?” the women asked in a sly way.
Giles laughed, “No, more like a daughter”
“She dead?” the woman asked bluntly
Giles thought about that. “I don’t know” he said, “I don’t want to know” But apart of him knew that wasn’t true, he wanted to know where she was, and with her status as the Slayer, she might possibly be dead. Which was something he didn’t want to think about.
He looked at the woman, and as he was wondering about why she bothered to talk to him, he got an odd feeling. Buffy!!!?? But then the feeling was gone and he felt a quick grief wash over him.
He looked at the woman, “Buffy?” he whispered
As if this startled the woman she walked out, but said quietly “She isn’t coming back”
Giles didn’t hear this though, he was to busy focusing on that feeling. He paid and then quickly walked out. He wondered if anyone else felt it.
