“Please tell me why we are doing this again?” Cordelia asked flopping onto Buffy’s bed.
“Giles wants us to bond, so we are bonding.” Willow said with a shrug.
Since it was her house, saving the slumber party fell to her. “As weird as this is just imagine what it is like for the guys?”
The girls looked at each other for a minute, then laughed uncontrollably.
“If this is a group bonding thing why aren’t the girls here so we can…you know bond” Xander asked waving his hands in a small circle.
“You spend enough time in a group as it is.” Giles asked bringing in cups of hot cocoa from the kitchen. “This is about forging new relationships and bonds.”
“Hey this isn’t about forging,” Xander said reaching over to grab the bowl of cheese crunchies off the coffee table. “This is about our complete and total destruction.”
“I told you repeatedly, that you are the last person in this world I would sire.” Angel said looking up from his novel. “I can’t stand you as it is, so having you around for centuries is just not an option.”
“Sorry dead boy but your not the big bad in this situation. The big bad is the girls over there who are more than likely at this very moment talking about us.” Xander waved a chip in the air all willy nilly. “Oh it starts out with the he’s so sweet and he’s such a great kisser but then it turns ugly. It turns into he doesn’t talk to me enough or he’s not sensitive but then the worst happens, the why-can’t-my-boyfriend-be-more-like-yours.”
“I’m not Buffy’s boyfriend anymore so that’s your and Oz’s problem.” Angel said easily, despite the stabbing pain in his gut.
“Oh no, no-one is safe. Boyfriend is just another term for a boy that also is a friend, so that counts you and the G-Man back in.” Xander told him smugly. “See girls grow up playing with dolls as practice for shaping and molding all the men in their life into exactly what they want them to be. You’ve heard the all-men-are-babies-thing, so tell me I’m wrong.”
“I have told you repeatedly not to call me that.” Giles said after sipping from his cocoa. “But you can tell me how this preposterous scenario your mind has concocted could possibly affect me.”
“Yeah well if it was so preposterous why should I bother.” Xander said leaning back in his chair and silently counting in his head.
“Just tell us Xander,” Angel asked leaning forward.
While Xander was filling them in on all the darker side of all girl sleep-overs, the girls were busy talking. Just not to each other.
“Yes well you see demons are everywhere…so have you seen any lately?” Willow finished lamely. When the phone clicked off, she gave the others a soft shrug. “I suck at this game.”
“It was your first crank call, Will don’t be too hard on yourself.” Buffy said giving her a light hug. “But watch a master.”
Buffy punched in the number by heart and waited for the familiar voice to pick up. “Scott, hi it’s me Buffy.”
“Buffy??” Scott said surprised to hear her voice. “What’s going on.”
“Bad news, I have a rare saliva born disease that affects everyone I kiss. It’s kinda like mono but more what’s the word I’m looking for…oh yeah Ebola. What with the oozing welts and all.” Buffy said holding the phone so the others could hear.
“This is a joke right?” Scott asked not sounding so certain.
“Sure it is,” Buffy said with a light laugh. “I mean why else would I call you your brilliant yet oh so suave conversation skills?”
When he hung up the girls laughed and Cordy grabbed the phone. “Watch this one ladies.” She pressed in a number and waited.
“Yes I am the manager of U2 and a guy in your hometown won our Bring-U2 to U promotion. So after checking around we heard that you’re the only suitable location for a concert. We’re still in the planning stage but when is the best time to call you to work out the rest of the detail?”
While they were still laughing over how the Bronze manager had bought Cordy’s lie hook line and sinker and would probably spend the next week waiting by the phone, they was a sudden knock at the window.
Buffy crossed over and opened it. “Angel?”
“Yeah sorry to come this way but we tried calling but we couldn’t get through.” Angel said, not liking the way the were laughing just moments ago. Everything Xander had predicted seemed to be coming true, he thought more than a little uncomfortable.
“So what’s the big bad?” Buffy asked. “I mean we we’re just talking so world and peril stuff comes first.”
“Oh…Giles decided the group bonding would work better if he was there to oversee the event. So next weekend we’re all suppose to do this again over at his place. Xander and Oz are downstairs waiting for the girls and we thought we might as well head over to the Bronze.” Angel said a little awkwardly. When they all laughed uncontrollably for no explainable reason, he was certain they were laughing at him.
Buffy looked back at the girls for a moment a decided they were having way to much fun to call it a night now. “Sorry Angel, we’re kind of having fun here. So tell the other’s we will Bronze it another night okay.”
“What are you all doing?” Angel asked before he could stop himself.
“You know girl stuff…you just wouldn’t understand.” Buffy said with a wink before pulling the window closed.
Angel made his way down the roof to where they guys were waiting. “They don’t want to come out, said they having to much fun doing “Girl stuff.”
“It’s even worse than I thought.” Xander said gravely, with a shake of the head.
“So what’s the plan Obi Wan?” Oz asked, caught up in the Xander induced hysteria.
“Follow me Chewbacca and Darth Vader, we need to use The Force.” Xander said.
“We can’t drag them out Xander, Buffy tends to take things like that personally.” Angel warned him.
“The Force you idiot, not force.” Xander said heading back to Giles’s house.
“Yeah?”
Buffy asked picking up the phone on the first ring. She listened for a few moments and then shot the girls a sorry look. “We’ll be right there Giles.”
“What’s up?” Willow asked getting to her feet.
“Demons, sleep overs well over.” Buffy said walking over to her closet to get dressed.
Giles hung up the phone and looked at the guys. “I can’t believe I just lied to Buffy.”
“Not a lie…a prank call totally different.” Xander assured him sagely.
