Part Six

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Xander and Willow crowded around the only computer in the whole library at Sunnydale High. Willow had decided to enter "research mode" and see if there was anything out on the net that could help them.

"Hey Wil, you know almost as much as Giles does about spookables. What do you think of our new friends?"

Willow shrugged, "You'd think that after everything the hellmouth has thrown at us, stuff like this wouldn't surprise us. I don't think I'll ever be totally prepared."

Xander nodded his agreement and pointed at the screen, "You think that is connected in anyway?"

"I doubt it. Someone probably just saw a group of midgets who normally pose as elves around the holidays."

Xander slumped down in the chair and sighed. It seemed like they were getting no where with this search. He wondered if he was going to wake up in the next moment and find that this was all a dream. He shook his head, kidnapped elves … next thing you know, he'd be learning that there really was a Santa Claus.

"Xan, remember that book I told you about a while ago, The Mists of Avalon?"

"You mean the one about King Arthur, but talked about the women in his life?"

"Yeah, that's the one. It mentioned quite often that you had to navigate through these mists to get to Avalon. It's a bit of a stretch, but I have an idea."

Willow turned back to the computer and began entering in search strings, cross-referencing weather reports with specific locations within the town of Sunnydale. She hit the enter key to start the search and then leaned back with a smile. "Here goes nothing."

The double doors to the library swung open and Buffy entered, followed by Elisa, Goliath, Lexington and Bronx. "Hey you two," The Slayer greeted. "Any luck?"

Both Willow and Xander shook their heads.

"Nothing yet Buffy, but we're working on it now." Willow looked at the three gargoyles and silently thanked whoever was listening that Sunnydale's populous was ignorant of what went on around them. Imagine what they would do if they woke up and actually noticed beings like these three walking their streets…

"Yeah, our little red-headed cyber goddess here has the ol' comp working on a search as we speak." Willow giggled at Xander's comment. She rather liked the ring of it.

"I'm itching for some action. Okay peeps, game plan here. Goliath, Elisa and I have decided to head back downtown to the docks. Xan, we'd like you to come with us. Lex, Goliath says you've got a knack for technology like our own Will, so we think you should stay here. You two can back us up and continue looking for any clues." Buffy kneeled down to pat Bronx on the head "You can stay here and keep them company if you like."

"I'd like." Everyone turned to the new voice and saw Oz enter the library. "Wil and Lex, you two don't mind another body, do ya?"

"I don't mind, it being your body and all." Willow grinned, blushing at the same time; surprised she even had the guts to respond in such a way.

Everyone chuckled. Oz smiled at Willow and thought she was so darn cute when she blushed. "Just point me in the right direction."

Elisa handed Willow a slip of paper with a phone number on it. "This is my cell phone number. Use it if you need to contact us while we're out patrolling."

"Cell Phone, got it. If we find anything we'll let you know."

Jacob growled in frustration and rang his silver bell again. A small smile of satisfaction appeared on his face at the cry of pain the bell's soft sound produced. "No one can help you now. Not only has this lovely book provided me with the means to enslave you and make you do what I want, but it has also made it so that no one can find you."

"Why have you done this demon," a female voice demanded.

"My reasons are my own, I will answer to no one!" Jacob maliciously rang the silver bell again, demented delight coursing through him as his captive cried out in pain once more.

Buffy grinned, "Walkie-talkie's are so cool." She slide the device in her pocket, her voice taking on a 'let's get down to business' ring. "Okay, so I think that Elisa and I should be one team and you and Goliath the other."

Xander frowned, "What's this, battle of the sexes?"

"I just thought it was a better match. You know, an equal distribution of powers type thing. Me with my slayer powers, and Goliath with his gargoyle type ones."

Goliath nodded, "She is correct. This match will work the best. I suggest Xander and I scout the north area along these street."

"Meet back here in a half hour?" Elisa asked.
