“Buffy?” Angel whispered.
Angel was in the mansion with Buffy. She had stayed unconscious on the walk to the mansion. Angel had placed her on his old bed.
He was now patting her forehead with a warm rag. “Buffy, Sweetheart, can you hear me?” Angel spoke. Buffy was moaning, rolling her head from side to side, and fluttering her eyes. “Buffy, you need to wake up.”
Buffy’s eyes opened and she looked at Angel. It hadn’t been a nightmare. She moaned and sat up. Angel tried to push her back down. “You’re weak.” He said.
Buffy gave Angel a look that could melt steal. He helped her sit up. “Do you feel okay?” Angel asked.
She gave him a raised eyebrow. “Just peachy.”
Angel sighed. Buffy wrapped her arms around herself.
“You’re cold.” Angel stood and left the room. He came back carrying a blanket. Angel placed it around Buffy’s shoulders and wrapped her in it. She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. Angel flinched. Her eyes were gray. They turned gray when she was sad. He sat on the bed against the headboard and pulled Buffy backwards between his legs. He wrapped his arms around her waist. She leaned back against his strong chest and rested her head in the crook of his neck. He kissed Buffy’s temple tenderly and rested his cheek there.
“Angel?” Buffy whispered.
“Hmm?”
“What am I going to do, now?”
“Well, first you tell everybody the great news, then you ask your mom to help you. Then we’ll see what’s next, okay?”
Buffy turned toward Angel and buried her face in his chest, sobbing. “Buffy, everything will be okay, I promise.” Angel smoothed her hair. “Shh…Shh.”
“Angel.” Buffy sobbed. “I…told mom…I…can’t…go home…again…”
“Why not?”
She looked up at him. He wiped away her tears. “Mom said to…she doesn’t…” Buffy searched for a gentle way to put this. There wasn’t one. “She wanted me to have as abortion.” Buffy couldn’t look Angel in the eyes.
“Did you?”
Buffy’s eyes shot to his. She had a hurt look on her face. “Of course not.” She looked at him in disbelief. “Do you really think I’m capable of something like that?”
“No, you’re too good and pure.”
Buffy scoffed, “Pure?”
Angel lifted Buffy’s face to his. He pressed their lips together. She was warm and sweet. Like always. He broke away. “Okay, maybe mot so pure.” He teased.
Buffy punched him in the arm. “Ouch!”
“Don’t mess with me.” Buffy warned.
Angel pulled Buffy against him with a playful growl. They froze when they connected. Buffy’s eyes were a storm of bright green. Angel’s eyes were almost black. They couldn’t look away from each other. It felt as if they had been apart for years, but in reality it had only been two and a half months.
Buffy was the first to push away, and Angel stood.
He faced away from Buffy. He racked his hands through his hair trying to push away his need for her. He could hear Buffy moving around behind her.
“I have to go.” She walked past Angel.
He grabbed her arm. “Wait.” She came back around.
“I have things to do.”
“Like what?”
“Pack.”
“Where are you going?”
“I don’t know, but I’m sure as Hell not staying here.”
“Come with me.” Angel told Buffy.
“What?”
“Come to L.A. with me.” He took Buffy’s hands in his. “We can be together. You can get away from Sunnydale. We can have the baby together, raise it.”
“It sounds nice…on paper, but Angel be realistic. You left me for a reason. You knew it would never work.”
“I was a coward. I left because I was scared what we would do to each other. But we can make this work. I grant you, it won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.”
“Angel, you have no idea how much I want this to work. But nothing has changed.”
“Buffy,” Angel stepped closer, putting a hand on her abdomen. “”Everything has changed.” He ended in a soft whispered.” When she didn’t speak. “Let’s go for it.” He urged. “Let it go, Buffy. Don’t worry; just be thankful we have love. And be willing to make it work.” He stepped closer, tipped her head up to look at him, and kissed her. “Come with me, my love.”
She gave her teary-eyed smile to Angel. “Don’t leave me?”
“Never. Forever; that’s the whole point isn’t it?"
Buffy gripped Angel’s hand in hers, “I want you to promise me something first.”
“Anything.”
“Never promise me anything again.”
“Huh?”
“When you make promises, it always ends badly.” She joked.
Angel laughed. “Alright, no more promises.”
“Promise?” She smiled, and they walked from the mansion hand in hand, laughing.”
