Chapter 6

Buffy vaguely heard the sound of the door opening and closing, and Dawn’s voice yelling “Buffy I’m home!” throughout the house. She was huddled on the floor, leaning back against her bed. There were tears running continuously down her cheeks, and she was lost inside of herself.

“Buffy?” Dawn asked, worried. “What’s wrong?”

Buffy managed to shake herself out of her thoughts, and plaster a fake smile on her face. Wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand, she smiled at Dawn, “Nothing sweetie.”

“Don’t nothing me,” Dawn warned. “As long as you’ve been my sister I’ve hardly ever seen you cry.”

“It’s nothing,” Buffy attempted to assure her, failing miserably.

“Buffy, you better tell me,” Dawn warned with a dangerous tone.

Buffy sighed, “It’s Angel.”

“Angel?” Dawn questioned, “What did he do?”

“He…we had a fight,” Buffy admitted, not exactly lying, but not exactly telling the truth.

Of course, Dawn didn’t buy it. “What did you fight about?”

“He wanted me to sleep with him,” Buffy confessed. “And I wouldn’t. He tried to force me, but I made him leave.”

“Bastard,” Dawn muttered. Buffy didn’t even bother to scold her for her language, because she knew that she was right.

“I never did like him anyway,” Dawn told Buffy.

“Dawn he’s my boyfriend,” Buffy was shocked.

“STILL?!” Dawn screeched. “Are you insane?”

“Dawnie, he takes care of me,” Buffy argued.

“Yeah but Buffy,” Dawn began.

“There are no buts Dawn,” Buffy interrupted her. “We know what happened the last time I broke up with a guy.”

Flashback 3 years ago:

Riley Finn was Buffy Summers’ first boyfriend. Not that she wasn’t attractive, she was just loving life, and didn’t want a boyfriend. She had to be happy and content with who she was first.

Her senior year it all changed, when an army brat, Riley, moved to Sunnydale. He was instantly attracted to her, as she was to him. It was the idea that he was a good ol’ Iowa Farm Boy. Dawn and her mother, Joyce, didn’t really like him, but Buffy didn’t care.

After they dated for a year, Buffy’s mother died when the two of them were attending UC Sunnydale. Buffy began to shut herself off and dropped out of college to support her and Dawn. She realized that she was holding Riley back, and that she didn’t really love him. He loved her, and told her many times, and she returned the words, but she now saw that she didn’t really mean them. It took the death of her mother for her to see that.

When she finally broke it off with Riley, he didn’t take it well. He forced himself on her and took away her pride, dignity, and virginity.

Present Day:

“Buffy, Angel’s not like Riley,” Dawn tried to comfort her sister, as she joined in on the crying.

“But he is Dawnie, he’s been lying to me,” Buffy sobbed.

Dawn was at a loss of what to do. She hated seeing her sister like this, and she hated her sister’s awful luck.

“Buffy you have to end it. You’re miserable. I’ll go with you, but you have to do it,” Dawn persuaded.

“Dawn, no,” Buffy stood firm.

“Fine Buffy, then let’s have some fun to get your mind off of it,” Dawn suggested.

“What do you have in mind?” Buffy asked.

“Where else is there to go in this one Starbuck’s town besides the Bronze?” Dawn questioned.

“Good point, but I don’t know,” Buffy hesitated.

“Don’t let Angel control you, I doubt he’ll be there. Now get ready, we’re leaving in 15 minutes,” Dawn ordered, getting up and heading towards the door.

“Dawn wait!” Buffy stopped her. “It’s almost 11:30. You can’t be out this late.”

“It’s a Friday night Buffy. Stop trying to get out of it and get ready,” Dawn told her, shuttign the door.

Buffy smiled. ‘Maybe Dawn is right.’ She then got up, and started getting ready.

---

30 minutes later, (what do you expect, they’re girls), Buffy and Dawn stepped arm in arm into the Bronze. They walked to their normal corner and grabbed a table.

“Buff, can you go get us some drinks?” Dawn asked.

“Sure, what do you want?” Buffy got out of her seat.

“Just a coke is fine,” Dawn smiled.

“I’ll be right back, don’t go anywhere,” Buffy warned.

Dawn just rolled her eyes at her sister’s retreating back.

Buffy was nervous heading towards the bar, afraid that she might see Angel. They are still dating, but it’s just a little too soon. She smiled brightly when she saw a head of platinum blonde hair behind the bar, and Gunn also.

Making her way towards Spike’s side of the bar, Buffy’s smile turned upside down when she saw Spike talking to a brainy looking brunette.

‘Why do you care?’ Buffy asked herself. ‘It’s not like you should be at all jealous. Angel’s yours. Besides what would a guy like Spike want with you?’

Buffy finally shut her head up, and walked up to the bar. Spike looked up from his conversation with Fred, “Hey pet.”

“Hey Spike,” Buffy greeted.

“Hi, I’m Fred,” Fred introduced herself, extending her hand to Buffy.

“Buffy,” Buffy shook her hand.

“Well I’ll just take two cokes and get out of your way Spike,” Buffy said quietly.

“Coming right up. Wait a minute, out of my way?” Spike asked. He didn’t understand what she meant. After a few seconds of processing, it hit him like a freight train.

“Oh, no, luv. Fred is Wesley’s girlfriend. Wesley is my brother,” Spike explained.

As if on cue, Wesley came back from the bathroom, and sat on the stool next to Fred, wrapping his arm around her.

“Oh,” Buffy blushed, slightly embarassed. “It was nice meeting you.” She said, as she grabbed the cokes and left hurriedly, embarrased but not intending to be rude.

“I’ll be right back,” Spike told the couple, worried about Buffy.

Walking out of the bar, Spike called her name, “Buffy! Pet, wait!”

Buffy turned around, “Yeah?”

“I uh, I was just wondering what uh, you were doing here for the second time today,” Spike stuttered, lamely. ‘What the hell? That was just pathetic you ponce.’ He mentally scolded himself.

“It was just a rough night. Dawn decided I needed to have some fun, so she made me come out here with her,” Buffy explained.

“Yeah, your sweetie came here and gave me a nice right hook in the jaw,” Spike told her.

“What? Why?” Buffy asked. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine luv, and he just did it because he thought I was trying to steal you away from him,” Spike told her.

“Yeah, crazy idea he had,” Buffy laughed it off.

Spike just stared at her like she had two heads. ‘Why would that be crazy?’ He said in his head. “Yeah, crazy.” He lied. ‘She doesn’t realize how amazing she is. Someone needs to show her. I need to show her. That’s never gonna happen mate, she’s with your cousin. You can’t hurt his happiness for your own.’

Sighing, Spike left her to head back to the bar. Looks like it was gonna be another night in a cold shower.
