Chapter 5

Spike walked into the crowded club and walked over to the bar quickly where Buffy and Angel were talking, but kept his distance. He smiled hoping the conversation was going to way he wanted it to. He walked past them going to his section of the bar.

“Spike!” Angel yelled stopping him. He wrapped an arm around his shoulder, “Tell Buffy here I was over at your place the other night.”

Buffy crossed her arms over her chest waiting for Spike to speak, “So, he was at your place?,” Buffy asked, “Bonding?” She gave Angel a confused look,. “It would be pretty hard to ‘bond’ without the other guy wouldn’t it?”

“What?” Angel asked.

Buffy sighed, “Spike was working.”

Angel glared at his smiling cousin. “Alright.” Angel said looking defeated, “Do you want to hear the truth?”

Buffy nodded.

“I was with my mother,” He said, “She’s sick.” Fake tears were streaming to his eyes. “I-I didn’t want to tell you because I didn’t want you to think... I was weak.”

Spike rolled his eyes. Thank God Buffy wasn’t stupid; she wouldn’t believe that. Then he looked with shocked eyes as Buffy gave Angel a sympathetic look and hugged him.

“Oh, I’m so sorry!” Buffy exclaimed. “I had no idea!”

Angel smiled at Spike and them hugged Buffy tightly. “It’s okay, baby, you didn’t know,” He whispered, “I should have told you.”

Buffy nodded. “You don’t have to worry about me thinking you were weak,” Buffy promised, “I’ll love you no matter what.”

Spike looked at the ‘happy’ couple. ‘I’ll love you no matter what...’ rang in his head over and over again. Angel was right. He was beneath him. He walked over to the bar and started to serve the drinks. He’d seen what Angel did to girls before; he hated how he treated them.

Buffy looked over at Spike as he served the drinks to some random girl, flirting with her and listening to her. She looked at Angel as he served the drinks to girls also. Buffy wasn’t stupid, she didn’t believe his story... not completely. A part of her wanted to believe him, but the other part knew he had to be lying. He hadn’t spent any of that day with Spike, she’d spent the whole day with him...

“I’m getting off in twenty minutes,” Angel told her with a smile, “So, I’ll be able to spend the rest of the day with my favorite girl.”

Buffy smiled, “Dawn’s not going to be home, it will just be you and me.”

Angel smiled and kissed her lightly on the lips, “Just you and me,” He repeated.

Spike shook his head as he dried a cup.

“I’ll just run back there and call Cor-my mom,” He said with a smile and walked away from Buffy.

Buffy took a deep breath and noticed Spike walking over to her, he leaned on the counter, “Hey,” Buffy smiled.

He noticed as soon as she smiled the room got a little bit brighter... in his mind anyway.

“Buffy, love,” He said softly, “Angel’s not who you think he is,” Spike told her. “Just...
be careful. I don’t want to see you get hurt.”

Buffy smiled gently at Spike, “I’ll be fine.”

Spike nodded and placed the cup down, “So, yeah...” He said and started to walk away.

“Spike!” Buffy called and he turned to look at her, “Thanks, for last night.” She told him. “Dawn told me you brought me up to my room. That was... really sweet.”

Spike nodded, “Anytime, pet.” Spike saw Angel start to come out of the back employee’s room and walk toward them. “Be careful,” Spike warned her.

Buffy smiled, “I will. We’re just going to watch a movie, nothing special.”

Angel came up behind Buffy wrapping his arms around her from behind making Spike feel sick, “I’m gonna go,” Spike said walking away.

“Ready to go, baby?” Angel asked.

Buffy nodded with a smile, “Yup.”

---Later that Night---

Spike flipped a cup, throwing it up and down catching it. The night was slow, just like the one when he met her. ‘Stop thinking about her, you whelp!’ Spike coached himself. ‘He’s probably got her right now... in his arms, kissing her... Doesn’t bloody deserve her...’ He looked around the crowd for someone to occupy his bed tonight.

He saw a girl, brown hair pulled back into two pig tails, her eyes covered with thin rimmed glasses, and she wore some loose fitting jeans and a blue tank top to outline her tiny form. He walked over to the part of the counter she was at and smiled at her, “Hey, pet,” He said softly, “What’s a cute girl like you doin’ in a rough place like this?”

The girl lifted her big brown eyes to his, “I was umm waiting for someone,” She explained, “What’s your name?” She asked tilting her head, trying to make a friend. She was scared here; she didn’t fit in.

Spike smiled, “Spike,” He answered, “Or William’s the given name.” He explained.

“You’re Wesley’s brother?” The girl asked.

Spike nodded slowly, “Yeah?”

“I’m his girlfriend,” The girl said proudly extending her hand to him. Spike smiled at the friendly gesture and took her hand to shake. “Winifred Berkal,” She introduced herself, “Most people call me Fred though. Wesley said he was going to meet me here tonight.”

“What time?” Spike asked, he knew it wasn’t like his brother to be late for anything, and when Spike said anything he meant it.

“In like ten minutes,” She explained with a shy smile, “I’ve never been to a bar before. I wasn’t sure what to wear, or anything, do you think I look okay?” She asked nervously, wanting to be anything but embarassing to Wesley.

“Sure, pet, you look great,” He told her with a reassuring smile.

Fred smiled widely, “Good.”

Wesley walked through the doors of the Bronze. He wore his usual light blue sweatshirt and a pair of straight black pants, his hair gelled, and his glasses pushed proudly up on top of the bridge of his nose. He walked over to where Spike and Fred were. “Hello, William.”

“Wes,” Spike said simply, “Just makin’ sure your girl was nice and cozy. Why didn’t you tell me you were comin’ down? Woulda baked a cake.” He said sarcastically.

“You always were one with the stupid jokes,” Wesley commented, “So, where’s that girl... what was her name? Drusilla?”

Spike shrugged, “Dumped her, time for something fresh, ya know?” Spike lied.

Wesley nodded sitting down on one of the stools, “Where’s Liam?”

“He’s out today,” Spike explained, ‘With my something fresh...’ He added to himself. “With his girlfriend.”

Wesley nodded looping his arm around his girlfriend, “I can’t believe you’re still living in Sunnydale and working here.”

“Believe it,” Spike said, “I like it here. Plus a new girl every night... they go for the bartender thing.” Spike explained.

Wesley rolled his eyes, “Father is still angry you left the way you did.”

Spike shrugged, “And I’m supposed to bloody care?”

---Summers’ House---

Angel pushed Buffy gently back on her bed and crashed his lips to hers in the heat of a heavy make out session. He crawled on top of her and they kissed playfully for a while before Angel’s hands moved to the hem of her blouse. They then moved up to her breast. “Angel,” Buffy called, gaining her breath. Angel’s hand moved to the button and undid it. “Angel!” She pushed him off of her.

“Come on, Buffy, we’ve been dating for... a while!” Angel complained, shocked and angry.

Buffy shook her head, “No, Angel, God!” She exclaimed.

“Come on,” He said with a sly smile guiding his hand over her jean-covered things and making its way up her leg.

“Angel, stop,” She said firmly pushing him away and standing.

Angel rolled his eyes, “Buffy,” He said fiercely, “I want you, and I know you want me.”

Buffy rolled her eyes, “Go.”

“God! You have to be such a bitch over everything!” Angel yelled.

Buffy looked at him in disbelief, “Please. Leave.”

Angel turned abruptly and stormed out angrily.

---Bronze---

“So, what brings you to SunnyHell?” Spike asked pouring some whiskey into a cup and sliding it down the counter to some guy that caught it. “Better yet, what made you leave dear ol’ da’ back in England?”

“Fred had to come here for a meetingm” Wesley explained, “I decided to come along see what my little brother was up to.”

“Right,” Spike said with a smile, which turned even bigger when he noticed Angel storming into the bar… alone.

Spike looked at the scene questionably before Angel moved to Spike and punched him. “HEY!” Wesley exclaimed. Fred looked stunned as Spike held his nose.

“Ow!” Spike called, “That bloody hurt!”

“You spent last night with Buffy!” Angel screamed throwing another punch and Spike blocked it. “All last night!”

Spike smiled proudly, puffing out his chest, “Yup.”

Angel looked at the audience he’d created and sighed, “I can’t believe you! You can’t just keep your hand off of any of my girls, can you?”

Spike rolled his eyes, “Let me guess, you tried to sleep with her and you two got in a huge fight. Then, she somehow slipped about me being there and now you’re here wanting to beat me to a bloody pulp but you’re not thinking about it at all. The question isn’t why do I get all your girls, the question is what are you doin’ to lose them all.”

Angel angrily kicked him in the knee and Spike fell to the ground. “Bloody fucking hell!” Spike yelled loudly. “You bloody poofter!”

“So, what?” Angel asked, “What am I doing wrong? Tell me!” He demanded.

“We didn’t do anything together. I hung out with her and her sis, that’s all,” Spike explained. “Now, don’t get your knickers in a twist, I’m not like you. I’d never hurt someone I care about.” Coming to a standing position, he sucked in his cheeks and punched Angel without warning bringing blood to his nose, “That’s for the knee.”

Wesley rolled his eyes, “You act so much like a child.”

Spike turned to his brother, “You’re right.”

Fred looked at Angel glaring daggers at him, causing Spike to smile at the brunette.

---An Hour later---

“So, how long are you two staying?” Spike asked, glad that Angel stormed out of the Bronze after he got up from the punch Spike sent his way. Of course, he threatened to do a lot more damage to Spike if he ever caught him within 50 feet of his girl again.

“Just till tomorrow,” Wesley said, “I was hoping to see you, but you never change do you? William, you’ve still got that childish fire to you.”

Spike looked away from his perfect brother, “Yeah, well,” He said with a sigh, “I like me.”

Wesley nodded, “I don’t really understand why.”

“You never did.”
