Buffy ran down the dark alleyway with tears rolling down her flushed face. She didn’t know what she was running from or where she was running. She guessed she would go home and then she heard it. “Buffy! Wait!” She turned quickly wiping her cheeks dry with her sleeve.

Spike ran up to her like a wild man. “What? What happened?” He asked worriedly. Why was he so worried about the blonde? This wasn’t his girl. It was Angel’s and know matter what he did he wasn’t going to change that.

Buffy looked at the bleached man in front of her and had confusion clouding her water filled eyes. “Nothing,.” She said a little harsher then she wanted it to be. Why did he even care? The last time they met he was completely drunk! They’d only met that one time and he seemed so worried about her.

“Doesn’t look like nothing.” He said simply.

Buffy looked up at him, “Where’s Angel tonight?” she asked.

“Wasn’t he supposed to be spending the day with you?” He asked, “This was his day off.” Spike explained.

Buffy looked at Spike, “He told me that he couldn’t spend time with me because Gunn was sick and he needed to fill in for him,” Buffy said.

Spike shook his head, “I’m sure he’s got a reason.”

Buffy nodded, “He could have just told me... what ever it is.” She said desperately, tears welling up her eyes once more. “I would have been fine with spending a different night with him.”

He hated seeing her like this. It was killing him; he’d just met this girl! Was he completely off his bird? He didn’t know what to do. “I’m sure Angel will call you tomorrow tell you how sorry he was for lying about... something really stupid you two will kiss make up and I’ll... work another night at the bar.” He said simply.

She nodded wiping her tears away once more. “I’m sure you’re right. I can’t believe I’m crying over something so small.” Buffy gave him a weak smile, “You must think I’m crazy.”

Spike shook his head with a soft smile, “You’re not crazy, and you care about him, is all.” He explained weakly. He reached out and gently caressed away the tear tracks under her eyes. His eyes caught hers and for a second the world stopped moving. It was like it was just the two of them in their own tiny world. He wished it could stay that way... forever.

Buffy took a deep breath stepping away from him keeping her loyalty to Angel in check. “D-do you want to come to my place?” She asked. “I can make some hot chocolate.” She offered him a gentle and warming smile.

Spike smiled, “Sure, thing, love.”

“I think Dawn might be home.” She said with a smile, “So you can meet her, you’ll have to excuse her... she umm well she’s a teenager. She's my sister if you didn't catch that."

Spike smirked, “Can’t wait to meet the little Summers?”

Buffy smiled, “Yup, Summers.”

Buffy started walking to the house and Spike followed her keeping his eyes on her back making sure he didn’t let them drift. They got to the small middle class house and Spike walked up to the door. He waited for her to unlock it and when she pulled the door open they walked into the house. “DAWN?” Buffy called as she threw her jacket on the coat rack, “You can put your's here as well."

Spike nodded taking off his jacket and putting it on the rack turning to the brunette coming down the stairs in a pair of baggy sweats and a white tank top. Her eyes widened when she saw him. “Umm, hi?”

Spike smiled, “Hey.”

Buffy smiled, “Dawn this is Spike, Spike this is Dawn.”

Dawn looked at the bleached haired man and instantly thought about her appearance. She wished Buffy would say something before she brought these people home! He was the most gorgeous man she had ever seen and she HATED her sister for not telling her he was coming. “I’ll be right back.” She squeaked running back up the stairs.

Buffy rolled her eyes and turned to Spike, “Told you,” She said with a smile walking into the kitchen Spike right behind her. He watched as she started going in the cabinets grabbing a bunch of cups and things and he leaned on the island.

“You gonna call Liam?” Spike asked tilting his head hoping she wouldn’t but he knew she should. He hated his conscious, but he was his cousin and did work with him. He couldn’t move in on his girl. It would be wrong...

Buffy turned to him and then looked at the phone that hung on the wall. She looked like she was considering. “No,” She said simply turning back to her three cups and pouring some milk and water into them.

“What are you doing?” Asked Spike.

She turned to him and then looked back at the cups of hot chocolate, “I’m pretty sure that I’m making hot chocolate.” She answered.

“Well, then, you’re making it the wrong way.” He told her with a smirk. He got up and put the stove on and then grabbed a big pan taking the hot chocolate mix, some water, and milk. He put it in the pan and started to stir it, “This is how you make hot chocolate.” He told her.

Buffy smiled at jumped up on the island sitting down and watching him stir the chocolaty goodness. “The other way is easier,” She explained.

“Might be easier,” Spike nodded grabbing one of the mugs and spinning it in his hand making her giggle, “But it’s not better.”

Buffy nodded, “Probably not.”

Spike smirked, “What do you mean probably?” He asked. “You’re going to try mine and tell me that it’s a thousand times bloody better because I know all.” He smiled, “Plus I’m a bartender.”

Buffy nodded, “That is true. You proven you can make a bad bloody Mary but can you make a decent cup of hot chocolate?” She asked with a smile.

Spike shrugged, “You’re just going to have to tell me.”

“I just might.” She said softly making Spike turn to her. “Why did you become a bartender?” She asked tilting her head to the side. “I mean you look like a guy who could be so much more.”

Spike smiled at that, “Thanks, pet, I wrote a book once.”

Buffy looked up with a smile, “Really?”

“Yeah, never tried to get it published.” He told her. "I don't even think I finished it. It was back in high school.”

Buffy smiled, “Maybe you should show it to me. I want to read it.”

Spike smiled and laughed, “Right, no.”

“Why not?”

“Because.” He said simply grabbing the pan and pouring the hot liquid into the three mugs. “So, where’s bit?”

Buffy smiled, “Probably up in her room getting all prettied up for you.”

Spike handed Buffy the mug and she grabbed it blowing on it slowly. She then sipped it and looked up at Spike who was smiling and waiting for her compliment. “You’re right.” She said, “It’s much better than mine.”

Spike nodded, “That’s right.”

Dawn walked into the room, her hair was down and pinned straight. She wore a small blue dress and her makeup was done very lightly. Buffy turned to her sister and started to laugh almost spitting out the hot chocolate in her mouth.

Dawn frowned, “What?”

Spike smiled a little also. “Hey, made you hot cocoa.” He said with a smirk handing her the cup of hot chocolate. She took it smiling at Spike.

“Thanks.” She said with a smile. Dawn turned to her sister. “You said we could watch a movie tonight,” Dawn said, “Can Spike stay?”

Buffy looked at Spike with a smile, “If he wants to.”

“Cool!” Dawn squealed. "Come on, we’ll find something to watch.” Dawn said grabbing Spike’s hand and pulling him into the living room.

Buffy rolled her eyes and took another sip of her drink then walked into the living room, She sat on the couch next to Spike, and Dawn sat on the other side of him. Dawn grabbed the remote, “I want to watch... umm.”

Buffy rolled her eyes, “How about Van Helsing?”

Spike turned to her, “You like the vampire movies, pet?”

Buffy nodded, “It’s a good movie.”

Spike nodded looking at the screen as it began.

Just an hour into the movie and Buffy lay asleep on Spike’s lap. He looked down at her sleeping form. He hadn’t been watching the movie, not since she’d fallen asleep on top of him, Dawn was still watching the movie and very much awake. He looked down at Buffy's hair-covered face and reached down, ently pushing the hair out of her face. She was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. He thought Dru was beautiful? Buffy must be... an angel. He had to stop thinking about this. She wasn’t his and they were friends. Buffy wasn’t ever going to be his.

She was Angel’s.

He looked at Dawn who smiled at him. “You want me to take her up to her room?” Spike asked.

Dawn smiled, “I’m not gonna do it.”

Spike lifted Buffy into his arms and held her close, thinking it would be the last time he’d be able to. He followed Dawn to Buffy’s room where she opened the door, and Spike waited for Dawn to push the covers over. When she did she left and ran down the stairs to finish watching the movie. He looked down at Buffy and started to unlace her shoes taking one off after the other. Then he pulled the covers up over her sleeping body and smiled down at her. He moved to the door, flicked off the light and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
