Oz sat in the same chair he'd been in for a few hours now. Buffy stared out the window. Cordelia paced impatiently. Giles was in his office, going through books. Willow was on a computer, trying to find clues about the prophecy, Angelus, anything. It all seemed the same as usual, except for Xander.
"Finally." They all turned around to look at Buffy. "The sun's coming up. You guys find anything yet?"
"No..."
"Fine. We're going after them. Now. Oz, you ready?"
"Yeah... I guess so."
"Then let's go. Willow, Cordelia, you stay with Giles."
"But, Buffy, I--"
"Please, Will." At the same time, a vampire walked into the library. Buffy looked up.
"Angelus sent me. Either you come to him, or your friend dies at sunset. A trade," rasped the vampire. "Be in the cemetary where you last fought at sunset, or the boy dies!" He pulled out a wooden stake and shoved it through his own heart, dematerializing into dust.
"I've never liked the barter system," Buffy said, making a face.
"Buffy, be careful," said Giles.
"I will. Can you write passes for us--you know, for the whole school thing, so that we have an excuse for being missing?"
"Yes. But Willow and Cordelia... You two will have to be alone for a while, and then go to class. The curator at the museum gave me a call last night while you were gone... It seems they unearthed something rather strange a few days ago, and would like assistance identifying it."
"Okay. Um, we can go to class."
"Yeah," Cordy agreed in a softer voice. "Buffy, are you sure you don't want help?"
Buffy hesitated. She did want help, but she was worried. She didn't even want Oz to come with her. The last thing that any of them needed was to rescue Xander, only to have Oz or Willow or anyone else be captured instead.
"Yeah. We'll be fine." Buffy grabbed a few of the weapons--"crossbow, stake, cross, holy water."
"That'll work," Oz agreed.
"Here. I don't want you sticking around any longer than you have to."
"Don't worry," Willow assured her. "You'll be fine."
"Yeah." Buffy looked around.
Buffy and Oz left the library, loaded down with the weapons. "Right, then. I'll be back soon."
"Giles! You're going to leave us?"
"Willow, you aren't being abandoned. School starts in five minutes."
"Oh... Right. Oh! I have to teach Ms. Calendar's classes! I'd better go!"
Giles went to the office to find his coat, as Willow ran out of the library.
"I'd better go, then, too." Cordelia walked out, slightly calmer than Willow.
"If I find out anything, I'll have you called down to the library, both of you."
"Don't forget, I've got Willow first hour," Cordelia reminded him. "It'll be easier to find both of us."
