Cordelia burst into the library.
"Help!"
Buffy, Willow and Oz looked up. "I thought you didn't need me," said Buffy in a low voice.
"Xander... They got Xander."
"Is he--is he dead?" Buffy stood up, while Willow just stared blankly at Cordelia.
"I don't know. I ran. God--I ran."
"It was smart, Cordy," said Buffy, sinking back down into the chair.
Giles came out of his office. "What--what's going on?"
"Xander," Cordelia told him breathlessly. "Angel and Spike... They got Xander."
"Good Lord."
Giles was very startled. "And that's not all. There was some blonde chick with them--Xander recognized her. Darla?..."
Buffy looked up. "Darla's alive again?" "Yeah... I guess so. And they all have Xander."
"Willow?" Oz looked at her. Xander was her best friend; who knew what this would do to her?
"We have to help him," she said in a most un-Willow like tone.
"Will, how?" Buffy's voice sounded almost broken. "What can we do for him?"
"We can save him. Find out where they are and what they want."
"They want us dead," said Cordelia. "And they've almost got Xander there, I'm sure!"
"No... No, that isn't Angelus's modus operandi..." murmered Giles. "They'll wait... They'll kill him when he's finally broken, when he's afraid of them the most. They won't kill him until then."
"They'll do worse," said Buffy.
"Yes. Undoubtedly much worse." Giles took off his glasses and polished them.
Angelus pushed a needle into Xander's back. "Don't want you screaming out anything else," he told the boy.
"Mmm. Take him home, Angel. He smells of spice and fire plants..."
"She thinks he smells like garlic and pepper," said Darla impatiently.
"Why, yes, Grandmummy."
"Drusilla, stop calling me that foolish name..." The three of them walked back to the mansion, Angelus carrying Xander all the way. The sounds of their voices drifted away into the night.
"How can we find them? Is there some kind of a spell, or--just something we can do?"
"Oz." Willow had stood up and been pacing, but now she strode back to her boyfriend. "Would you recognize how Xander smells?"
"Xander doesn't smell. I mean, he does in a way, but--"
"No."
"Oh. That--you mean the werewolf thing. Can you do that without a full moon?"
"Yes."
"So, we can find them?"
"Let's go." Cordelia started walking to the doors.
"No."
"Buffy, why--"
"Because we should wait until daylight. The sunrise is in less than an hour. They need to get back to the mansion. They won't have time to kill him, not the way Angel would want to."
Angelus, she mentally corrected herself. It isn't Angel anymore.
