Giles looked at them all. "Let this be a lesson to you," he scolded them all. "We're just lucky no one got hurt."

"Angelus was talking about his family," said Buffy.

"He probably just meant a round of sitting at home insulting Spike and flirting with Dru," said Xander.

"No... No, it seemed like something else."

"Buffy, how can you tell? I mean, you couldn't even tell that he was a vampire, and then you couldn't tell that he was evil. So, how can you figure out exactly what he means now?"

"Xander's right." Willow rolled her eyes at this. "I mean, you didn't even know he was going to kill Ms. Calendar, Buffy. And you should've tried... Tried something."

Buffy stood up and strode over to Cordelia. "I am sick of being blamed for Ms. Calendar's death. Angel had a soul. We didn't know he would lose it."

"He was a vampire," said Xander. "Enough said."

"No! Vampires are soulless. Angel had a soul. Angelus doesn't. They're different."

"No, they aren't. You just want to think that your boyfriend's all sweet, that he's some kind of a lost captive? Well keep dreaming, Buffy, because even if that's true, you can't get him back."

"That isn't what--Angelus is smart. I don't remember how many people he killed--how many Slayers. But he's evil. And he's different than most of the new vampires. He's over 200 years old, and he knows how I fight. He's an--an adversary," Buffy told them. "And I don't know yet how to kill him."

"You've had your chances."

"I had one chance. And I didn't know then. Since then... Since then, I haven't been able to. I'm sorry. But I can't help him, and I couldn't help Ms. Calendar."

"Because of Angel." Xander's voice was quiet.

"Shut up, Xander," said Willow. Xander looked at her in surprise. "It wasn't Buffy's fault."

"She should've--"

"When? When she was possessed? Guys, Buffy's saved our lives I don't know how many times!"

"Before she came, our lives didn't need saving!"

"So this is all my fault?" Buffy's voice was shaking, and they all looked at her in surprise. "Jesse, Ms. Calendar, everything happened because of me? The Harvest would've still happened. You guys would already be dead." Her voice deepened; she was sick of Xander's barbs about Angelus.

"Buffy, that isn't what he's--"

"Yeah, it is." Xander stood up and walked out of the library. Cordelia looked at them all, then ran after them. Buffy sank back down into a chair.

"Buffy, it's okay," Willow tried to comfort her.

Xander walked out of the school. "Xander!"

"What, Cordy?" He was practically yelling at her.

"You know, I'm on your side, here."

"Angel, Angel, Angel. It's still all she can talk about."

"Well, I can't imagine why."

"Speak of the devil."

Angelus stepped out from behind a tree. "I would've gone back in the school, but I sensed frustration coming out--or rather, Dru did." Xander heard Drusilla giggling a little from somewhere behind Angelus.

"Cordy, go back to the school."

"She doesn't want to go anywhere--do you?"

Xander's breath caught in his mouth. "You're dead."

"Have been for about four hundred years. You're just a baby."

"No. No--Angel killed you..." His voice trailed off. He realized what was going on.

"That prophecy."

"A prophecy, now, is it?" Angelus's grin widened. "I seek knowledge of this prophecy. Dru, sweetheart, take care of them, now, will you?"

Cordelia shook her head and ran away. "Bye, bye," called out Drusilla.

"Dru, darling," started Angelus.

"Never mind her--just keep the boy. A bargaining piece, you might say." Angelus looked at his sire.

"That's true."

Cordelia ran around half the school, then ran back in. She had to get to the library... She had to get to the library...

"Well, well. If it isn't Miss Chase."

"Principal Snyder, please, I have to go to the library!" she panted.

"I'll come too, Miss Chase. I've been hearing the most interesting things coming from the library. I'd like to see if they're all true." They heard a growl from somewhere behind them. "What was that?" Snyder twisted around to try and find whatever was growling.

"That, uh, was something we can probably find in the library." Cordelia tugged on his arm. "Let's go there now!" She took off running down the hall.

Principal Snyder, on the other hand, walked back to his office. He pulled out a cell phone. "I need to speak with the mayor. We may have a problem."
