"I guess it's time to go out on patrol." The Slayer stretched, ready to leave the library. No Oz tonight--not for another moon.
"Should I--do you want me to come with?" She looked at Willow for a moment.
"No, I'm good. But thanks, Will." "Then, I'll go to the Bronze. Oz's playing tonight." Her face broke out in a broad smile.
"Maybe I'll stop by later."
"Cool. And--Xander may be there. With Cordelia, which is bad, but not that bad."
"Right. And if I learn anything, I'll tell you in the morning."
"That'll work," Buffy agreed. She started to leave, stake in hand.
"Buffy," Giles called. She turned back to look. "Don't... Don't do anything rash. That's all that Angel and Spike need to get a foothold in this town."
"I'll be careful," she promised as she exited the library.
"Are you sure you don't need help?" Willow looked at Giles anxiously.
"Yes, I'm quite certain. Go--have your fun." He turned to another pile of books.
"Then, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye!" She grabbed her school things and bolted to the Bronze.
Dingoes Ate My Baby was playing loudly, Xander and Cordy grooving to the beat. Willow sat at an empty table, not noticing her surroundings. Her only care was the band--specifically her boyfriend. But if she'd looked around, she might have noticed a tall, dark man enchanting a girl at the table beside her.
"I live nearby," he told her.
"Do you?"
"Yeah."
"Are you at Sunnydale High?"
"Oh, no. Don't worry, though. I just moved here. I'm very new."
"Are you?"
"Yeah."
"So, where were you before?"
"Around... New York."
"Really? Cool." He got up, and his new friend followed.
"What's it like in New York?"
"Crowded," he laughed as they walked away together.
Then Willow registered the voice and the laugh. She'd heard it last when Angel was trying to--going to--kill her. "Angel!" She got up and ran after them, pushing her way through the crowd. Xander heard her yell, as did Cordy. He made to follow, but she grabbed him.
"He'll try to kill you again," she hissed.
"He's going to kill Willow."
"Well--" she couldn't make herself not care. "Let's go," she sighed in exasperation.
From onstage, Devon called for a break. Oz had seen Willow leave, and he'd noticed Cordy and Xander go after her. He pulled off his guitar and jumped offstage, grabbing a drumstick as he went, running to the same exit.
