"Buffy." Angel turned around in the street to see the Slayer--not Faith, but the "original, good" slayer from Sunnydale.
"You said this is your town?" She raised a stake. "Let's find out."
"Wait... Buffy, what's going on?" Angel was confused. Xander and Willow stood behind her, obviously ready for action. Why the Slayer and her friends were here, apparently to take L.A., he wasn't sure.
"Buffy, what is your issue?" Cordelia asked.
"Stay out of it, Cordy," Xander warned his ex.
"Buffy, why are we here?" asked the redhead. Piper moved forward.
"You're a witch!" she exclaimed. Willow jumped a little.
"What're you talking about?" she asked, glancing around nervously. "You're a witch too," she said.
"How can you tell?" Prue looked at Piper curiously.
"I don't know, but she's powerful. You can't tell me you don't feel that." Willow looked at the two of them and tried to draw herself up.
"Okay, yes, I'm a witch... But I'm a good witch!" Prue narrowed her eyes.
"Really?"
"Yes!" Willow exclaimed anxiously.
"Got a tip," Buffy told Angel. She was circling him. "Heard you'd reverted to the original form."
"What? Buffy, I--"
"Shh. It was from a reliable source."
"Buffy, if he were Angelus, he'd have tried to rip your throat out by now." Xander shifted uncomfortably, crossing his arms.
"Angelus is good at acting." She didn't take her eyes off of Angel, still circling.
"Buffy..."
"Cast the spell, Will."
"I can't."
"Will, you have to."
"No. I don't have enough power. I need to wait for Tara."
The two Charmed Ones left in the alleyway and Leo could tell that this wasn't true--the redhead had enough power to cast practically any spell that she wanted to. But obviously, Willow was nervous about something and wanted a stall tactic.
"Willow." Wesley's voice was much steadier than it had been the last time he'd been in contact with the Scoobies. "What's going on?"
Xander and Willow looked at Wesley, surprised. His voice had an air of competence.
"The Watcher's Council warned Giles recently... Even though he isn't in contact with them anymore, they warned him that Angelus is back."
"Will!" Buffy's voice was exasperated.
"Well, it's true, Buffy!"
"Buff, they were lying."
"Why would they lie, Xander?" "Because they want revenge. Angel saved Faith, saved her from them. They would have killed her, Buffy. They didn't want to help her or redeem her. They intended to take her to England and lock her away, probably killing her the first chance they get."
"And how would you know all of this, Wesley?"
"Because they wanted my help. I refused."
He drew himself up a little taller as Buffy finally took her eyes off of Angel to look at him. "And you refused?"
"Yes."
"Please. You didn't have the willpower to refuse a giant slug who threatened your life, but a year later you had the guts to refuse your own buddies, who doubtlessly offered you so much more for cooperation? How dumb do you think I am?"
"You know, Buffy," Cordy began, "you have been really dumb before. But this is something else. The Watcher's Council nearly killed you, more than once, nearly killed your mother, but you trust them more than us. How brainwashed have you been, lately?"
Sunnydale
"I'm telling you, it wasn't Buffy," Tara insisted. "There's something in there that I couldn't notice until she got further away. She's just a little off."
"Tara, not that I doubt your instincts, but how do you know that you're right?"
"Giles, Buffy never acts that foolish," Anya agreed.
"Anya, she is a teenaged girl, an American one, nonetheless, and she does not always display common sense."
"No, but she's usually pretty smart. You'd think she would've been smarter than that."
The bell to the magic shop tingled, and all three looked up. "Hello. I've come to make all the little birdies sing. They can sing such pretty songs..." Drusilla cocked her head, coming through the doorway.
