It hurt.
Xander wasn't sure what hurt, but it did. A lot. He slowly cracked open an eye. Giles was looking down on him, and he was in the library. The room started to spin, so he closed his eye again.
"Are you all right?"
"N' sure." Xander replied. His tongue felt like leather and five times its normal size. "W' happen'd?" he tried to open his eye again but it hurt so he stopped trying.
"We saw a flash of light coming from the direction of the cemetery, knew you were there and ran to see what happened. We found the two of you lying on the floor under a tree. Do you know what happened?" Giles mopped Xander's brow with a wet cloth. Oh, it felt good.
"Vampires -- run away -- untied -- big flash -- don't 'member."
He heard footsteps coming towards where he lay. Each step echoed round his head and made it throb even more.
"The police are saying it was a power outage at the plant. They haven't the faintest idea what it was." It was Willow. "Is there any prophesies being fulfilled tonight?"
"No," replied Giles. "It's all very strange. I don't know what's going on."
"Well that makes a change," grumbled another voice. Xander knew it sounded familiar but he couldn't place it.
"Oh good, you're awake. You took a huge bump to your head. We thought you might have concussion." Willow went over to the familiar sounding person. If only Xander could work out who it was. He groaned and tried to sit up. Giles pushed him back down.
"Don't get up. I don't know how badly you're hurt. Your ears were bleeding when we got to you."
This got Xander's attention. "Shouldn't I be in hospital?" The throbbing behind his temple was starting to recede and he was able to hear himself think. He cracked open his eye again to look at Giles, then glanced across to see if Buffy was OK. When he saw the figure Willow was tending to he began to scream.
It was him.
