Dawn stared at the vampire with new eyes. She didn't even hear Xander yelling for her. She was too distracted with the fact that this however-the-hell-old-he-was vampire had just screamed shamelessly to the whole world that he was "bloody in love with her". That wasn't something that happened every day. In fact, it was something that never happened to her with anyone. Most people were too freaked out by her happy-go-lucky additude or raging moodswings to ever say they even cared about her at all. But here was Spike, practically handing her his heart in his hands.
But just because Dawn didn't notice, didn't mean Spike didn't. He sighed, and stared at the sky as if saying, "The price I have to pay." He then turned to Xander, wearing his normal scowl.
"What do you want?"
"What do *I* want? I think I should be the one asking the questions here, Buster. Like what you're planning to do with Buffy's kid sister!"
"Planning? I'm not *planning* anything. I'm going to take her out for some bloody ice cream if that's alright with you."
"I heard you. When I was coming out of the Magic Box. I heard you!"
"Heard me? What do you mean heard me?" Spike loved to play dumb with Xander, sometimes the wanker didn't even notice he was getting taken advantage of.
"I heard you too," Anya stated. "So Xander was not making things up about you like he normally does. I'm quite confused. Dawn is a child. I did not think you liked children as much as you liked fully capable women like Buffy. I mean, Dawn's probably a virgin-"
"Okay, hun. That's really enough. Care to explain yourself?"
"What am I supposed to say?"
"What did you mean?"
"I was acting."
"Acting?"
"Yeah. Now, if you don't mind, I'm done with this interagation. Dawn, let's go."
Spike took Dawn's hand and led her away from Xander and Anya. She was still too numb to think much of it, but....
Xander watched them go. He cocked his head to the side. "Do you think he was acting?"
"No. I think he loves her."
"That's so not a good thing."
"I don't know. It could be good for him."
"I don't care. I meant good for Dawn."
"Hey, I would have loved to loose my virginity to a highly skilled vampire."
