A vampire by the name of Eric hid out in the storage room of some fishermen’s bar in dock town. He had been in hiding for at least six months, in fear that Angel, otherwise known as Angelus, or that kid would get to him. He would’ve never hid, partly because it wasn’t his style, if he hadn’t been accused for the Slayer’s disappearance. He never really understood why he was blamed for that. All he had been doing was looking for some blood and he had “accidentally” knocked into the Slayer. He remembered running away after she had kicked him. He remembered thinking that he was a wimp. He had walked away, and gone through some alleys, got some blood and then had decided to go back and check, to see if any vamps needed help. He was a pretty good fighter, probably because before he was turned he had taught karate in L.A. and had been a black belt, but he couldn’t take her alone. Only when he went there she was gone, he had thought nothing of it she probably moved on to another cemetery. It wasn’t until about a month later while he was at Willy’s Alibi Room that he found out the truth. He had been sitting there minding his own business, drinking some disgusting pigs blood when a two guys walked in. One wore a long black duster, the other a short sleeve shirt. Willy, who stood behind the counter looked surprised and started to fidget. “Angel” he muttered, “What a surprise, didn’t you um leave”. Some of the costumers got up and walked out. Actually there were only two other people or vampires left in that room besides the new comers, Willy and himself. He had heard some things about a vamp named Angel but didn’t believe in them. A vampire with a soul, something or someone had told him. He had doubted that. He had just started getting used to being a vamp. Before he was turned he believed that vampires should stay in Dracula movies and should not even thought of being real. You could imagine his surprise when he saw his first real vampire. The kid behind Angel hid a stake and Eric didn’t so much as gulp, what were the chances that they were here for him? He was wrong. It had happened all so fast that all he remembered was Angel lashing his hand out and grabbed him around the neck.
“Is this him?” the vampire asked
“Yeah” the kid answered
Eric had no idea what they were talking about, but if it involved him he wanted to know. He shifted his eyes over to a position were he could see Willy, barely but that would do. Willy looked nervous, every two or three seconds he would glance around. Eric thought Willy reminded him of a chipmunk. If he wasn’t in this situation he would of laughed at that thought but since a vampire who was about 240 something was about to kill him that didn’t seem like a good idea. When Willy saw Eric’s eyes upon him he squirmed around as if he was the one getting choked. “Nothing I can do, man” he said in a rasp that was sort of sympathetic. The kid, that he remembered hearing somewhere that his name was Xander, held out a cross. Eric growled at it. He had just started to get used to the vamp thing, he hadn’t known that crosses were dangerous to him also.
He stared up at the vampire Angel, who had his vamp face on and if Eric weren’t a vampire himself he would be terrified. “Where’s the Slayer?” he growled
Eric felt like asking two questions: Why are you asking me? And why would you of all people want to know? Only he knew that would be the fastest way to getting introduced to that stake the kid had in his hands.
When he didn’t answer the vampire gripped tighter and Eric couldn’t help but gasp, not because he couldn’t breathe ‘cause obviously he didn’t need the air but because it hurt.
“Where’s the Slayer?” Angel asked
“I don’t know,” he rasped
“Not a good enough answer,” the Vampire with a soul answered and Eric started to panic.
“I’ll ask you again and if you don’t answer correctly we’ll have to force this out of you” Eric glanced over at Xander you still held stake and cross in hand. He wondered what was going to happen if he told them that he didn’t know or said some wise remark. He knew he was probably going to die anyway; he might as well start making those jokes.
Once again the vamp formally known as Angelus asked him where the Slayer was and all Eric did was grunt. Without looking backward the vampire reached his free hand toward the kid and when he brought it back the vampire had the cross in his hand and he didn’t so much as flinch. He brought the cross down to Eric’s flesh and a searing sensation went through his body. He screamed. Willy who had been silent through this whole thing flinched and said “Can you do this outside if a costumer comes in and sees this happening rumors can spread and business might go down hill?”
The looks he got from Eric, Xander and Angel were enough to shut him up and so he clamped his mouth shut and started staring around aimlessly.
“Where is she?” Xander asked with a voice that made him sound like a man more than the kid he was. Or at least he was to Eric.
“I don’t know” he growled “and I don’t care” At that moment Eric felt a weight lift off of him only to return quickly once he knew what was going to happen next. Xander handed the stake to the growling vampire, who looked really angry. Eric wondered if there was anything he could do to save his un-life and then a thought occurred to him. He remembered something he had tried to perfect when he was human. That something might just save his butt. He thought it over quickly and as the stake was being raised toward his heart, he quickly used his free hand to weave around Angel’s arm that gripped his neck and saved enough time to kick Angel in the stomach; he knew he had not done it right but it worked. Angel was surprised and his momentum knocked him off balance. Which gave Eric enough time to kick him again and run for his un-life, he didn’t even look back.
After that he hid in a few different places. All of them were far away from Willy’s. He had come out a few times to get fresh blood. It had been hell. Not to eat for a day or more was torture. He had been very careful, only taking drunks and hobos to eat. They were the ones less missed. It had only been a half a year ago that he’d found the nice little storage room that was located in a bar in Dock town. He’d been brave a couple months ago; the curiosity got the better of him. He had gone to Willy’s to ask some questions. He had been surprised that he was still alive. He was pretty sure some vamp had gotten tired of him and finished him off. Or turned him. He had thought about doing it himself, but who was going to give him the scoop on the other vampires and who was going to get him fresh disgusting pigs blood? Willy looked as if he had shrunk over the past two and a half years. He had grown what seemed to be more aware of his surroundings and noticed him right away. When he did, Willy’s eyes widened just as they had the night Angel and Xander had come to beat Eric up. The little man paused and nervously glanced around and then walked over to the wall by the emergency exit and pressed a button. A glimmer in the room, that Eric had not noticed seem to fade away and Willy walked back to where he was standing behind the bar, as usual. Eric walked forward and sat down on the barstool. He looked around, nervously, for Xander or Angel. They were once again the only ones in the bar. “Where’ve you been?” the bartender asked, “I was pretty sure you were a goner”
Under the dim lights Eric smiled, he had thought he was a goner too. He didn’t say anything though. “I’ve been going to place to place,” he answered
Willy nodded and gestured to where he had turned that glimmer off. “Angel and them think I have been hiding stuff from them” Willy smiled “The Witch put up this little hoozywhasit about a month a go, its like a video camera.”
Eric nodded; he was glad that Willy had turned it off. “The Slayer’s still gone?” he asked
“Yep” was Willy’s reply, “ If you want my opinion, I think she’s dead”
“Really,” Eric said in surprise, that he was glad Willy hadn’t picked up on.
“I wouldn’t tell Angel that though, he’d kill, me not to mention Xander” Willy shuddered as he finished the sentence and it made Eric shudder, but he also knew that that was why he was here. Why did Angel, a vampire, care for the Slayer? “Why does Angel care a bout the Slayer?” he asked aloud and Willy stared at him as if he were nuts. His face softened as he realized that he didn’t know the story.
“The story of Angel and his Slayer” Willy said in a voice that sounded like he was telling a love story. It seemed that he had become more confidant or something. “When the Slayer first came to Sunnydale, she met Angel. It was a school girl crush, I guess.” He laughed in a forced, nervous way. “Didn’t know he was a vamp” he paused for what seemed to be dramatic effect “So she found out it was a big thing then they fall in love.”
Eric raised his eyebrows. “Yes” Willy said, “It was all very touching, then he turned evil and the only way that can happen is well…” his voice drifted f and Eric stared into space and then raised his eyebrows high. “You mean”
“Yep” Willy replied
He continued, ”He went evil, killed people, yada, yada, yada, then” he paused again and Eric smirked this was all very comical. “He tried to end the world raise up a demon, Acathla or something, and Buffy ended up sending him to hell.”
“Really?” Eric asked, “Yes” Willy replied
“He came back though, and they fell in love again, he was very protective of her”
Eric snorted, “I can imagine”
“So” Willy continued, ”then there was graduation and a couple of stuff in between but graduation”
“High School blew up it was…interesting, lots of kids died that day”
“Yeah, I heard about that on the news” Eric told the bartender
“After graduation Angel left” he nodded once he saw Eric’s face, ”he went to L.A., started a business”
“Wow”
“He still loves her though that’s why when he got that call that she was missing, he ran faster than the wind will ever go.”
“He’s out for blood or” as Willy looked at him, ”dust.”
“I didn’t do it”
“I know” Willy answered, “but somebody did and he had to be mighty powerful.”
As Eric relived that conversation a chill ran down his spine. Usually vamps were afraid of Slayers, but as Willy added that night, the other vamps were talking about what had got the Slayer. They were afraid. So naturally, he was too. He looked around the storage room. He was so bored. He wasn’t hungry, so he didn’t need to go out. Angel and Xander probably still thought he did it so going out in general was suicide, and the drunks in the bar were no fun to torment. He would just sit there and wait until this whole missing Slayer thing blew over. That was the point of hiding right?
