Okay, here it is again. The characters in this story belong to Joss Whedon and the concept is his creation, but this script is my work and mine alone. Any characters I have introduced and further info about current characters belongs to yours truly. I have not mooched ideas from anyone and I do not want anyone to mooch ideas from me. Any questions or comments should be sent to me via e-mail. I love getting comments/criticism (helps me to grow as a writer), so let me know what you think.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Scene begins with a vampire drinking the blood of a human, and the person falling to the ground dead. You see the victim's face, and then the vampire's. Suddenly it changes to the face of the person whose blood it has just drank. Then it walks away. The next scene begins in the library, with Buffy and Giles.)

GILES (slamming a book shut)
It says nothing in here about the final battle before the Turning Point. Nothing! Damn useless book...

BUFFY
Whoa, Giles. I never thought I'd see the day when you cursed a book.

GILES
I'm sorry, Buffy, but this is very stressful situation. We have no information other than what Ms. Calendar and Willow retrieved from that machine. (He gestures to the computer.)

BUFFY
It's better than nothing.

GILES
Yes, but it still isn't enough. I don't want to send you off unprepared.

BUFFY (standing up)
Giles, I've been unprepared before, and I'm always okay.

GILES
That doesn't make it acceptable. I'm your Watcher; if you are taken off guard it is my fault.

BUFFY
Don't pop a vessel on this one, Giles. I'm sure you'll find the answers you're looking for soon. As for me, I've got English to get to. We're studying poetry.

GILES (distracted)
Oh, good. Well, you go off and read while I try to prevent your demise.

BUFFY (chuckling as she walks away)
See you later, Giles.

(Next scene begins in Buffy's English class. The teacher is talking.)

TEACHER
What do you suppose the author is stating in this particular poem?

STUDENT
That we are our own worst enemy?

TEACHER
Exactly. Now, turn to page 47...

(Buffy rolls her eyes and stops paying attention. She stares out the window, and sees HERSELF standing out on the sidewalk. Her eyes grow wide and she sits up straight.)

TEACHER (trying to get Buffy's attention)
Uh, Miss Summers?

BUFFY (snapping back to reality)
Huh?

TEACHER (sighing)
Miss Summers, if you intend to pass this class, you must pay attention.

BUFFY (smiling)
Right. Sorry.

(The teacher continues on with class, and Buffy stares out the window. Where she had seen herself standing, there is now no one. She shakes her head, thinking she just imagined it. The scene ends. The next scene begins in the library, with her talking to Giles.)

BUFFY
I know what I saw, Giles. It was me, standing outside while I was still sitting inside.

GILES
Are you positive?

BUFFY
Positively positive.

GILES (sighing)
We don't need this kind of distraction right now.

BUFFY
Well, excuse me! I just thought I'd mention it to you, seeing as though it spooked the heck out of me. And it takes a lot to spook me.

GILES
As I am well aware. I suppose all you can do now is keep your eyes open.

(Xander and Willow enter the library.)

XANDER (to Buffy)
Whoa, how'd you get here so fast?

BUFFY (confused)
Huh?

WILLOW
>From the office. How'd you get here so fast?

BUFFY
I was never in the office today.

XANDER
Yes, you were. We just saw you there talking to one of the secretaries.

BUFFY
Hello?! I just told you I was never there.

WILLOW
But we saw you.

BUFFY (looking at Giles pointedly)
Or someone who looks exactly like me.

WILLOW
What are you talking about?

GILES
Buffy thinks she saw herself outside while she was still sitting in class.

BUFFY
I don't think I saw me; I know I did!

WILLOW
So that wasn't you?

XANDER
Unless Buffy can break the hallway speed limit-

GILES (finishing for Xander)
There's someone in Sunnydale who bears a striking resemblance to Buffy.

BUFFY
The only question is: what do they want?

(The scene ends with them looking at one another. The next scene begins again in the library, with the four of them sitting around looking at books. Giles walks out of his office with a book in hand.)

GILES
Here!

BUFFY
You found something?

GILES
Yes, it's one of my predecessor's diaries.

XANDER
So what's the verdict?

WILLOW
Yeah, what is this thing?

GILES
It's not a thing; it's a vampire.

BUFFY (confused)
But how can that be? I saw it outside in the middle of the day, standing in the sun like a Hawaiian Tropic model.

GILES
Apparently this is no ordinary vampire.

XANDER (wryly)
They never are.

GILES
This vampire has the power of metamorphosis.

WILLOW (a little scared)
Meaning it can become anyone?

GILES
Anyone or anything.

BUFFY
So how is it that it can go out in the sun?

GILES
When it takes the form of a human, it takes on all its attributes as well.

XANDER
Okay, so all Buffy has to do is slay it, right?

GILES (sighing)
I think it may be a little harder than that.

WILLOW
Harder, how?

BUFFY (dejected)
I get it. It can be anything or anyone. It could any object in this room. (She points to the book in front of Xander.) It might be that book for all we know.

(Xander jumps up and moves around the table, sitting beside Willow.)

GILES
I doubt it. From what I've read, it has to take on a form approximately its size.

WILLOW
But it can still be any person, right?

GILES
Unfortunately, yes.

BUFFY
So how am I supposed to catch it?

GILES
That's good and bad news. The good news is that it can be killed as any vampire can.

WILLOW
And the bad news?

GILES
There is no way of making it reveal its true self, so it will be nearly impossible to find.

BUFFY (sarcastically)
Gosh, you're making this sound so wonderful, Giles.

XANDER
Is there at least a way to tell if the person you're talking to is this vampire?

GILES
Only if you know his or her personality.

WILLOW
What if the person doesn't have a personality-

XANDER (cutting her off)
Yeah, we'll never know if its this vampire or Cordelia.

(Giles gives him a stern look.)

WILLOW
No, I meant a personality that you would know?

GILES
Then you won't know if it is the person or the vampire.

BUFFY
Okay, so assume we do find it. What happens then?

GILES (looking at the book)
This Watcher speaks about the Slayer meeting up with this vampire, but was unable to kill it.

BUFFY
Why?

GILES (he looks at her)
Because it killed her first.

BUFFY (shocked and scared)
Oh.

WILLOW (seeing Buffy's fear)
Is there anything else in the diary?

GILES
No, not much. But it does say that this vampire is prone to preying on its enemies emotions and weaknesses, and that's how it got close enough to defeat this particular Slayer.

BUFFY (trying to compose herself)
So all I have to do is not let it get to me, right?

GILES
In theory, yes. But Buffy, it's easier said than done.

BUFFY (shrugging)
Not really. I'm a Slayer; I should be able to handle this.

GILES (concerned)
Yes, you're the Slayer. But you're also a teenage girl, and if I remember correctly, emotions run high in people your age.

BUFFY
How else do you propose we get this thing? Unless we find someone totally free of emotions, we're hurt.

XANDER (snapping his fingers)
Are you guys forgetting? We've got the perfect person right here in Sunnydale.

BUFFY (confused)
Who?

(Scene changes to late that night. The four of them are again in the library, but this time Delilah is with them.)

DELILAH (questioning)
Me?

GILES
Yes, you. This vampire preys on those with feelings, and... (He breaks off awkwardly.)

DELILAH (finishing for Giles)
And you think I don't have any.

BUFFY (a little bit snippy)
Well, if you do, you've gotten good at hiding them.

DELILAH (eyeing her suspiciously)
I'll take that as a compliment.

(Buffy smirks at her, and there is a tense silence. Finally, Giles clears his throat.)

GILES
So, will you help us with this?

DELILAH
Sure, what do you want me to do?

XANDER
Could you just zap it like you wanted to Nathan?

DELILAH
If I can recognize it, yeah.

WILLOW
You mean you won't be able to figure out where it is?

DELILAH (shaking her head)
Nope. At least I highly doubt it.

GILES (dryly)
Somehow I knew you were going to say that.

DELILAH (surprised)
What do you expect? I'm not God. I have power, yeah, but not that much.

WILLOW
Maybe you could pose as a student here again; that way if any of us see this thing, you'll be right there to get it.

DELILAH (apprehensive)
Oh, no. I don't think I can take much more of that.

XANDER
Aw, come on. Us young'uns aren't that bad.

DELILAH
It's not that. It took me a week to recover from my last undercover work.

BUFFY (confused)
What?

DELILAH (looking up through the skylight)
Nighttime is much better for me. Daytime is...not on my list of favorites.

GILES (curious)
Why not?

DELILAH
I don't much like sunlight.

BUFFY
Why? You're not a vampire; it's not like you'll incinerate or something.

DELILAH
No, but if the sun shines on me, I don't have any powers. Actually, it drains my energy. That's why it took me a week to get my full strength back from being here just a few days.

WILLOW
You're kidding, right?

DELILAH
No, unfortunately. When sunlight hits me, I'm just like all of you, only...immortal.

BUFFY (in shock)
Are you for real?

DELILAH
Completely. My powers come from darkness, and that's where they thrive.

GILES
Why did you never mentioned this before?

DELILAH (shrugging)
I didn't really think it was important.

BUFFY
Wrong. This is way important!

GILES (to Buffy)
Well put. (To Delilah.) What if we needed your help and it was two 'o clock in the afternoon?

XANDER (guessing)
Pray there's an eclipse?

GILES (ignoring him)
The point is that we need to know everything about your past in order to utilize you as much as possible. Is there anything else you haven't told us?

DELILAH (shrugging)
Rain: bad.

BUFFY
Could you clear that up a little, Tarzan?

DELILAH
Rain is water, water is pure, purity is goodness. Goes along with the whole darkness-evil thing.

GILES
What else?

DELILAH (suddenly defensive)
Look, my life is not an open book. And you're lucky I'm helping you as much as I am.

BUFFY (sarcastic)
Helping? Are you referring to the time you tried to kill me? Correction, did kill me.

DELILAH (glaring)
I'm regretting bringing you back. (Buffy stares at her just as coldly.)

GILES (interrupting their staring contest)
Delilah, this is important; we need to know your levels of power. Could you please inform us of all your strengths and weaknesses?

DELILAH (coldly)
Maybe later. I want to be alone now. (Turns to leave.)

BUFFY (under her breath)
Aren't you always alone?

(Delilah hears hear and turns back, glaring at her evilly. Her eyes turn ice blue, and suddenly a cold breeze floats through the room. They all react by shivering, but Delilah is still, staring at the shivering Buffy.)

DELILAH (with meaning, innocently)
A little cold, aren't you?

BUFFY (icily)
Isn't that what Ethan said to you?

(Delilah freezes, not moving or breathing at all. The wind stops. Slowly Delilah focuses her gaze on Buffy, staring sinisterly. Her eyes flash red with fire.)

DELILAH (slowly, quietly)
Don't ever say his name again, do you hear me? Ever. You do, and I'll make you wish you were dead. (Exit.)

BUFFY (to Giles)
If she's supposed to be our ally, then who's our enemy?

(Scene changes to that night at the Bronze. Buffy is sitting alone at a table when Angel approaches her.)

ANGEL
I heard you talked to Delilah today. How'd it go?

BUFFY
Not well. You know, that girl has a real attitude problem.

ANGEL (smiling)
Well, no one ever said a witch was easy to get along with.

BUFFY
Understatement. She's fully living up to her title. Did you know her eyes change when she gets a little peeved?

ANGEL (suddenly serious)
What color?

BUFFY
Huh?

ANGEL (urgently)
What color did her eyes change to?

BUFFY (brushing it off)
I don't know. Blue, then red I think. It was kinda neat, in an evil sort of way. Totally eliminates the need for colored contacts. (Sees Angel's grave expression.) What?

ANGEL
This isn't a joke, Buffy. (Sighs.) What did you say to her?

BUFFY (remembering)
She was convulsing over the fact that we needed more info on her powers, and then she went all medieval on us.

ANGEL (sighing)
You said something about Ethan, didn't you?

BUFFY
How did you guess?

ANGEL
You shouldn't have done that.

BUFFY
Why not? If Miss Uncooperative is going to keep pulling her shade act, I have every right. The fate of the world depends on us, and I'm not going to let her screw it up.

ANGEL
You don't get it, do you? She's important in all this, Buffy. You need her there.

BUFFY (realization on her face)
You don't think I can do it on my own, do you?

ANGEL
That's not what I said.

BUFFY (icily)
What else could you have possibly said? You don't think I can face the Turning Point alone.

ANGEL
Buffy-

BUFFY (fed up)
Save it. I don't need you or Delilah to help me. I've won on my own before, remember? I won't lose this one. (Walks away angrily.)

ANGEL (quietly, determined)
And I won't lose you. (Exit.)

(Later that evening. Buffy enters the library, where Giles is standing.)

BUFFY
I have a problem.

GILES (panicking)
What? Did you run into the vampire?

BUFFY (looking at him as though he had said something stupid)
No! I had a fight with Angel.

GILES (relieved)
Oh, is that all?

BUFFY (mocking him, angry)
'Is that all?' Giles, this is serious!
