Willow’s eyes were still moist from her talk with her mother. She hung up fifteen minutes ago, but the conversation kept playing through her mind, making it seem like it just happened a minute ago. She had called her mother a few minutes after everyone left the house. That was over an hour ago. She had hoped that she really had convinced her mother that she was both mature and responsible enough to take care of herself. She only had to mention that Principal Snyder trusted her enough to let her teach the computer class about eight times. And she knew that she was probably breaking a few laws by doing that without a teacher’s certificate. Not even anything saying she was legal to substitute teach. But she was teaching the class, and she could see that the other students were learning.

She reminded her mother that her grades were still all A’s. She reminded her mother of how she turned down the computer company’s offer to work for them straight out of high school, and that she was going to go to college first. She told her she might even try to really become a teacher. But mostly, she reminded her mother how this was the first time that she had disobeyed her this way, and that it was because Oz was sick, and she wanted to be with him. She told her mother how important he was to her. She also told her mother that nothing happened between the two of them the night she came home late. She said she wasn’t ready for that. And she really wasn’t. They both cried many times. She told her mother that she loved her, and always would. And that she didn’t like disobeying her, but that she should be trusted enough not to be kept away from Oz.

She said all of that, and only almost said Xander instead of Oz once by mistake. And she caught that before it came out. After she swore that she would be home around 8pm and that she would be home all night for the next few nights, her mother relented. Though Willow still had to wonder if her mother really did agree with everything, or if she was just giving up for now. She figured she would find out in about two more hours.

She was sitting on the mattress next to Oz. He hadn’t moved once during that whole conversation, but she could hear him breathing now that she had calmed back down. Now she knew all she could do was wait. Wait until his parents came home. If they arrived before dark, she would tell them he was hurt but would be OK. If not, she would call Buffy for a ride. So she waited. Waited until darkness. Until the first night of the moon. Until Oz would wake again.

"It’s almost dark," Buffy said.

"Yes, we should pack for tonight’s patrol," Giles said.

"What should we do?" Cordelia asked.

"I would recommend heading home and staying indoors until the morning," Giles said. "If you leave now, you might make it home while it is still safe."

"In that case, we’ll see you both later," Xander said as he stood from the library table to leave. "You guys watch yourselves out there," he added, moving his index finger back and forth from Buffy to Giles and back. "Let’s go, Cordy."

She grabbed her bag off the table and walked with Xander out of the library.

"Cemetery or the park?" Buffy asked.

"The cemetery first. We can see if there are any new graves to watch out for," Giles said, putting the last few stakes in his bag.

"Actually, we should then head to the hill. What about the vamp that bit Oz?" She said.

"Yes, I almost forgot about him," Giles said and got a weird look from Buffy. "Well, in taking care of Oz, I hadn’t given too much thought to what had done it to him, just that he was injured."

"Oh," she said. "Will it become a werewolf?"

"Possibly. There isn’t much written about that, but I’ll pack the rifle as well just incase," Giles said. "If we see it, we can sedate it and see if we can pen it up until sunlight."

"Why don’t we just shoot it if we see it?" she asked.

"Well, this way we will know for sure that the werewolf is indeed a vampire and not another person," he explained. "Besides, I have no silver bullets." He headed into his office to get the rifle.

"You still have the extra darts from the last time?" she asked.

"Yes, you can never be too prepared," he said from his office. He came out with the rifle and darts a moment later.

"Lets roll," Buffy said and grabbed one of the bags of equipment. They walked out of the library together. Giles flicked off the lights on the way out, leaving the room in almost complete darkness. The sun had just gone under the horizon.
