Part Ten

Day 10

"This is Jeremy Holcomb, the new student. He's moved all the way from Boston so I'd like everyone to give him a big welcome.".

Buffy didn't really pay attention to what Mrs. Chang was saying. They'd had new students before, nothing of big interest. But when the new student was assigned to sit next to her she happened to glance up. Her jaw dropped open and her eyes went wide. Jeremy Holcomb had to be the hottest guy in the school. He had spiked black hair, brown eyes, clear complexion, broad shoulders, muscular build, and the sexiest smile ever. All thoughts of Angel flew from her head. This guy was almost, if not even more, cuter than Angel.

Jeremy had already met a bandwagon of girls that day, but his heart was thumping in his chest when he was seated next to the most gorgeous girl he had ever seen in his 18 years. Her silky blonde hair fell just a small distance past her slim shoulders and settled nicely on her purple tank top. Her skin looked soft and sun tanned. The girl's eyes were a greenish blue and he realized that she was staring at him. He flashed her a smile and she smiled back.

Jeremy set down his back pack and unzipped it. Pulling out a notebook and pen, he turned to a clear page and began to write.

*What's your name?*

When he was done, he ripped it from the spine and handed it slyly to the girl. She took it and their hands brushed for a minute. He felt a shiver creep down his spine.

Buffy lowered her eyes to his writing. Even his handwriting was perfect! She pulled out a pen and wrote back.

*I'm Buffy Summers. Welcome to Sunnydale.*

Jeremy took the offered note and smiled when he read it. He liked her name. Buffy. It suited her.

*Thanx. Your name is cool, I like it. Sunnydale seems a bit boring. Anything fun around here?*

Buffy read it and replied.

*The Bronze. It's the only cool place in town. It's a club, they let everyone in, but still.*

Jeremy nodded as he read it, smiling back at Buffy.

*Maybe you could show me where it is tonight?*

Buffy replied.

*Sure. I'll talk to you after class. Mrs. Chang is glaring at us.*

He read the note and flashed her another sexy smile.

After the boring class was over, Jeremy and Buffy met up in the halls. Most of the students were loitering around already, ignoring the fact that they had classes to get to, so Buffy and Jeremy had to squeeze past. "My friends should be around here, somewhere," Buffy told him, smiling. Xander and Willow usually met up with her after their own respective classes. History was next. Visions of Angel flashed through Buffy's mind, and her smile towards Jeremy lessened a bit.

"If they're as nice as you are, I'm sure we'll get a long great," Jeremy replied, grinning.

"Um, yeah," Buffy answered, distracted. It was clear to her this guy had the hots for her, and she couldn't let it go any further without hurting his feelings. "My boyfriend is around here, too," she said casually. "I think he's downstairs.".

Jeremy's smile dropped. "Oh," he said. *Of course a gorgeous girl like her would have a boyfriend, what were you thinking?!?*

"Is he our age, or is he a senior?" Jeremy asked casually.

Buffy bit her lip. "Um, actually, neither. He's a student teach here, so he'll actually be teaching our history class.".

Jeremy mentally smacked himself on the head. The girl's boyfriend was going to be his next teacher? One wrong move, and he would have a failing grade. Damn!

"Look, Wills, it's the Buffster!" they heard a voice call out. Jeremy turned to see a tall, thin boy with brown hair and eyes approaching them. His clothes screamed out-of-style and next to his side was a shorter, shy looking red head. Her clothing was more colorful and childish, not much better.

"Oh, Jeremy, these are my friends, Xander and Willow.".

Jeremy shook hands with both of them, and also received a glare from the boy.

"She has a boyfriend," Xander said flatly. Willow rolled her eyes and elbowed him in the ribs.

"Excuse him, he's a moron," Willow said jokingly and with a small smile. "So, where are ya from?".

Buffy smiled in relief at Willow's save. She was right, Xander was a moron. Before Jeremy had a chance to answer, the bell rang.

"Oh no!!" Willow yelled. "Ohmigod, we're late for class!!".

Jeremy gave her a funny look. "And this is bad, why?".

Xander chuckled. "Willow has a thing for being the good girl. You know, every school has 'em. Always on time, A plus student, very feeble.".

Buffy grinned. "Our Willow isn't feeble. Are you, Will?".

Willow never answered. In fact, she wasn't even there. The group all turned and saw the door leading to the basement swing close.

"Wow, she is a good girl," Jeremy commented.

"Nah, I thinks he's rebelling today," Xander answered. "Last time we were tardy, there was a Willow-shaped hole right through that door.".

* * *
Angel looked up from his desk as Willow sped into the classroom, 30 seconds late. She took her seat, hurriedly opened her bag, took out a binder, and gave him a sheepish smile. Angel smiled back and shook his head.

He noticed that Xander and Buffy were also missing. And the new student he was supposed to have hadn't shown up yet. He was about to ask Willow where they were when the door opened again and Xander walked in, looking miserable, as well as Buffy and the new student. He noticed right away how Buffy smiled at the guy. Everyone else in the class were talking or passing notes, since Angel hadn't called them to attention.

* * *
Jeremy looked around for the teacher, and Buffy's boyfriend. "Excuse me," a loud and strong voice said, scaring him out of his wits. Jeremy turned around to find the teacher right behind him. "I'm Mr. Giles. You must be Jeremy. Care to explain why you show up late on the first day of school?".

"Uh," Jeremy swallowed and looked to Buffy for help. Mr. Giles was very intimidating. He was taller and more muscular.

Buffy sighed and intervened. "Angel," she whispered under her breath, so no one else but Jeremy could hear. "I was introducing him to Will and Xander, that's why we were all late. It's not his fault, it's mine.".

Jeremy noticed immediately how the teacher's gaze softened when he looked at Buffy, but then immediately hardened when looking at him.

"All right, you're excused. Take a seat in the first row, please.".

Buffy rolled her eyes. Angel could be such a pain int he ass when he didn't even try.

* * *
"Why does he have to come?" Angel asked for about the thirteenth time that night.

Buffy sighed and continued to apply her peach lipstick. "I told you. He's new in town, doesn't have any friends, and needs to have fun. What, are you jealous?".

"Yes!" Angel said. "A good looking boy wants to be your friend. Ha! I know what he wants, and it's a hell of a lot more than nay friend would want.".

Buffy turned to glare at him. "You are so paranoid, can't you be nice for once?".

Angel glared back at her from his position on her bed. He had Mr. Gored in his hands and his hair was mussed from the walk over. The weather in Sunnydale had been terrible the past few weeks. All in all, Buffy mused, he looked absolutely adorable.

"I don't want to be nice for once, I want him to stay away from my girlfriend, that's what I want.".

Buffy finished with her make up and grabbed her jacket. "Think of it this way. If I can match him up with someone at The bronze, he won't be after me. And as long as I'm with you, what can he do?".

Angel thought about it for a minute. "Fine, but I'm not letting you out of my sight tonight.".

Buffy rolled her eyes. "When do you ever?".

* * *
"That was so fun!!!" Buffy said loudly as they exited The Bronze. "Did you see how cute they looked? It was perfect!".

Angel grinned. He really didn't care who Jeremy was with, as long as it wasn't his girl. "Yeah, it was great, let's go back to your house.".

Buffy smiled as they continued to walk down the streets of Sunnydale. It was raining gently and the drops made beautiful patterns on the street and in puddles. "Who would have thought that Harmony had a soft spot for polyester?" Buffy said, thinking of the outfit Jeremy had worn.

Angel snickered. "He looked like a loser.".

"Be nice!" Buffy said. "You know, I still have some history homework. I really don't understand the assignment. Can you help me? Please?".

Angel nodded. "I'm not going to do it for you, but I can help.".

Buffy grinned. "You are the greatest boyfriend, ever." She leaned up and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"I know," he answered.
