Chapter 3
‘Buffy...’ Angel said, returning the look that his true love gave him.
‘Angel...’ Buffy said, looking very embarrassed. Dawn stood to the side of the couple, not sure what to do.
‘Em... I'm gonna go. Xander will be em ... Nice to see you again, Angel... Bye!’ Dawn said edging away slowly, then running.
‘Buffy?’
‘Angel... eh sorry about the punch. You know, Dawn lost.. Tall guy... One thing leads to another in my mind. And that’s without the whole slayer thing. So, how are you?’
‘I’m fine! You?’
‘Slightly shocked. I mean, I thought you’d ... I thought you’d d...’ Buffy said trying to keep herself together.
‘No! I didn’t. But Spike...’
‘Spike what d’you mean Spike?’ Buffy said, getting confused.
‘Spike, he died! I mean properly died.’
‘Yeah, he died in the Hellmouth!’
‘No! He was alive! Well, not properly alive. I would have thought Andrew told you.’
‘What! Andrew said something but as if I’m gonna listen to a nerd. God! Spike!’ Buffy said, getting upset.
‘Yeah. I know he meant a lot to you.’ Angel said feeling slightly hurt/
‘No...Yeah...It doesn't matter.’
‘I’m sorry about the whole Dawn thing. She was at the warehouse and I didn’t want her walking home alone so...’
‘No. Thanks. I mean, if she had gotten hurt, I don’t know what I would’ve done.’
‘Well, something almost did happen. Vamp attacked her.’
‘What? Is she ok?’
‘Yeah, she’s fine. She...’ at that a Morkata demon jumped from a rooftop above.
‘Whoa! Angel!’ Buffy said, watching Angel punch the demon right in the face.
‘Buffy run! I can handle it,’ Angel bellowed, kneeing the Morkata in the groin and knocking it to the ground.
‘I can’t. I’m helping you,’ Buffy said as she and Angel got blown into the air.
It had gotten up from the ground and pushed the two warriors away. The demon then ran at Angel and punched him once on the left of his face, then his right and then his left. Angel got his game face on and battled back.
‘Buffy go! Now! You have to!’
‘But, Angel.’
‘Go!’ Angel told Buffy and she ran.

‘Xander! It’s me I’m home!’ Dawn said as she opened the door.
‘Dawn! Oh thank god. Where have you been? Never mind. Your sister was so worried. Oh I better phone her!’ Xander babbled heading for the phone.
‘Xander!’ Dawn yelled.
‘What?’
‘Buffy knows. She’s with Angel.’
‘Dead boy’s back?!’ yelled Xander in shock.
‘Stop calling him that! He loves Buffy; Buffy loves him. They may not be able to be together, but it doesn’t mean they don’t want to. I saw the look in their eyes when they saw each other; I saw the longing each of them had,’ Dawn told Xander. He just stood there, shocked.

Buffy ran back to her house. After every step, she heard Angel’s voice, saw Angel’s eyes. She couldn’t believe she’d left him battling that thing alone. She shouldn’t have left him but she couldn’t go back. What if she saw him dead? She couldn’t bear it. She opened the door to her home.
‘Xander! Dawn!’ Buffy called as she took off her coat. She walked through the kitchen into the living room. Dawn and Xander were enjoying cartoons. It had been so long since they did that, Buffy almost didn’t want to tell them about the demon.
‘Guys.’ Buffy said.
‘Oh, Buff! Hey!’ Xander said getting up.
‘Hey! I’ve got some bad news!’
‘What? Is Angel OK?’ Dawn asked.
‘I dunno! But that’s not the worst.’
‘What?’ Xander sat down again.
‘Demon! We need to research!’
‘Research! I thought we’d gotten past all that!’ Dawn said complaining slightly.
‘So did I, but this thing was strong. I can't just leave it out there!’
‘Ok, Buffy. What did it look like?’ Xander was heading for the books.
‘Big, green, very bony back and arms, extremely strong.’
‘Right. Should I phone Kennedy, Willow and the Slayers in New York?’ Xander asked.
‘No, I’ll do that. You know me: not that good at the whole research thing!’ Buffy said.
‘Ok!’ Xander said. He and Dawn then dove into piles and piles of books.
