Buffy was sitting on the steps in front of the school waiting for everyone else to arrive. Giles hadn’t even gotten to school yet, which was a shock, but she figured he was taking care of Oz. Then she heard the familiar sound of that thing Giles called his car. She was also surprised when Willow’s bus came and went without Willow. But she understood why Willow wouldn’t want to go to school that day.
Giles jogged across the street towards Buffy. He felt it was the safest thing to do, seeing Cordelia’s car coming up the road. As he neared her he said, "How are you feeling today?"
"I’m fine, you look a bit tired though," she replied.
"Yes, well, I was checking on Oz periodically throughout the night and morning to see how his condition was progressing, and I’m happy to say that, although he is still unconscious, he is breathing normally again. He appears to be improving slightly by the hour." Giles, said with a smile.
"That’s good to hear," Buffy said.
"We will have to get him back home tonight so he can be prepared for the change," he said. "The change will come regardless of his current condition. At which time, he will heal extremely quickly."
Xander and Cordelia walked up together then. Xander looked nearly comatose. "Hey, I forgot this last night, did anyone call Oz’ parents?" he asked.
"Oops," Buffy replied.
"Oh, Willow called a little after I got back home to tell me she had called his mother for him, and that everything was OK there. She hasn’t arrived to school yet?" Giles asked.
"I haven’t seen her, and she wasn’t on her bus," Buffy said.
"I’d hate to have been in that house last night," Xander said with a great yawn.
"Xander, did you actually go to sleep when you got back home?" Buffy asked.
"Yeah, but I had to get up a few hours early," he gave Cordelia a slightly miffed look while saying that.
Before either Buffy or Cordelia could respond to that look, they were all distracted by the sound of Willow’s voice. She was getting out of her mother’s car, an it was clear that her mother was yelling at her, but you couldn’t tell what she was saying. Nor could you figure out Willow’s replies. Willow shut the door and walked towards the rest of the group.
They all greeted her with hello’s, hey’s, and good mornings.
"Oz is getting better by the hour. You were magnificent last night," Giles said to her.
Xander looked around quickly to make sure no other students might have heard that last comment by Giles and have taken it the wrong way. It appeared that everyone was doing their usual routine and giving where ever Buffy was a wide berth.
"That’s good to hear," she replied, sounding just about as bad as she did last night.
"How did things go at home?" Buffy asked as the first bell rang.
"We should go to class now," Willow said, and walked towards the school quickly.
Buffy stood still for a second. "That well, huh?" she said, mostly to herself. She then started walking after Willow, and the rest followed her.

Oz now lay in Giles’ bed. He was still out from a lack of blood but his spleen had been working overtime, and he was almost at a stable level again. The werewolf blood protected both his life and his mind. It was now able to keep his mind in a sluggish but active state. His eyelids flickered as he dreamt of his encounter with the vampire over and over, along with nightmares of his nights as a werewolf. For the moment, it was a nightmare he could not wake from.
