It had been a month since Buffy’s encounter with…herself. Jessica had detached herself from the group, especially Angel and Buffy, whom she was particularly cold to. Spike and Drusilla got their own little loft, near Angel’s, where Buffy was living now, too, and Whistler moved back to L.A., helping other people in need. A little while back, Angel had been turned human. Life was good.
It was a sunny morning when Buffy was drinking coffee in the little kitchen and Angel was just waking up. Suddenly, the phone rang. Buffy picked it up.
“Hello?” She went to get her coffee, resting the phone between her ear and her shoulder. Angel walked up behind her, his hair dishevelled, and pours himself some coffee. “Speaking…yes, I did…yes, I am…ohmigod…” She drops her coffee cup and it shatters on the floor. Oblivious to this, and to Angel’s “What is it? What’s wrong?” she sank into a chair. “Are you-are you sure?…Okay”, she took a deep breath. “What do I have to do?…alright. Monday at…2:30?…yeah, th-that’s fine…thank you.” Wordlessly, she let the phone drop from her hand. She looked up at Angel with tears in her eyes.
“I have-I have something to tell you”, she began. He crouched in front of her.
“What? What is it?” he asked.
“Jessica died on patrol last night. Just some vamp that got lucky. Her-her funeral is on Monday a-at 2:30 PM. We should-we should go”. He nodded. Camera pans to outside, we see Buffy and Angel talking quietly to each other. Buffy is crying.
