Buffy The Vampire Slayer > BTVS - Season One
Gone 2: Rome by Bria

All the characters that appear on Buffy do not belong to me, they were created by the all powerful Joss (all bow down) All others, such as Lily or Aaron, belong to me, as does the story line. I have taken Anya’s story, Gone, and given it a little twist. Buffy and Willow have switched places, so now Buffy is the half vampire. I just couldn’t bear Angel and Buffy being apart. (Becoming nearly killed me and Innocence and Surprise gave me a heart attack!) This is my first fanfic of any kind, all feedback is welcome, but no flames, purty pleeze. Hope you enjoy the fic.

Part Seven

YOUNG ONE

Buffy studied her surroundings, desperate now for a means of escape. The sun was setting, she could feel it in her blood. She figured it was the same way Angel was always able to tell just when the sun was going to rise or set. Buffy knew she had to get out now, because whatever happening would be going down just after sunset. She wasn’t sure how she knew that either, but she trusted her gut.

They, meaning her, Kalith, Ri and a whole bunch of other vampires, had left where ever they had been staying about two hours ago. She had been given a change of clothing, which she recognized as partly her wardrobe and partly Angel’s. The black jeans ( typical Angel ) were a bit too big for her, but her white tank top was obviously hers. They had untied her for about three minutes to let her change in a rock-solid chamber, but they had posted about twenty guards around the doorway, which she took as a compliment to her fighting prowess. One half-vampire against twenty guards and God knows how many others were hiding in the shadows. Not the best of odds, so she decided to wait and see what other opportunities presented themselves.

Once she was changed they had traveled in the sewer systems, underneath the still active city. Buffy had been in the middle, with Ri on her immediate right, obviously watching her. Kalith was in lead, and seemed to be prowling instead of walking. From the way he moved, Buffy could tell that his every sense was on edge, ready for anything. She felt a stirring of fear deep inside her. Through little pieces of dialogue that she heard from behind closed doors, plus her conversation with Kalith, Buffy had been able to make out that Angel wasn’t dead, and would, in fact, try to rescue her. Whether he succeeded or not, Buffy wasn’t sure.

Now, Buffy was in the same position she had been when she had first woken and found herself in Kalith’s safe house. She was tied to a hardy chair in a huge room somewhat like the first one. Only this room was definitely part of a warehouse, with boxes standing in piles and a forklift in the corner. Buffy could smell the salt air, meaning they were near the docks. It still amazed her how much her senses had improved since the change. The tiniest sound was now like a symphony to her, the smallest touch held the deepest meaning. Everything, the sights, the sounds, the smells, they were all sharpened and improved. Buffy felt like she had been deaf and blind and for the first time in her life she was seeing the world clearly. It was enough to make her careless with wonder if she wasn’t careful.

For the better part of two hours Buffy had been waiting in the chair, straining against her bonds and trying to decipher just what was going on. For the first hour, vamps had come and gone with frequency, but now it was only her and her six guards. But by the looks of them, they were made of the same material as Ri. All wore the same predatorial expression that was willing and able to kill, all had the same hard body. If any one of them ever faced off against Mike Tyson, even with the no-biting rule, Buffy would have to bet on the demon. Besides which, she wasn’t that big of a Tyson fan.

Slowly, Buffy could hear the faint sounds of a fight. Shouts, crashes, and a cacophony of other noises. They seemed to get louder for a moment then fade away. The head guard stood and beckoned for two others to with her, casting a warning glance to Buffy. She said aloud, “ Move an inch, little one, and I’ll rip your throat out.” They exited silently and swiftly, moving off into the dark.

“I get the message,” Buffy muttered, curious to see what was happening. From the sound of it, Angel hadn’t shown up alone. The remaining vamps all seemed excited to leave, except for one girl. She looked to be Buffy’s age, and Buffy could tell she wasn’t much older. The girl, while possessing the innate vampire skill to kill, was not experienced at all and you could tell. Obviously she had been placed here to keep her out of the way while the battle occurred. Buffy knew first-hand how annoying new-born vampires could be. More annoying than a tired two year old. And Buffy could tell you from past baby-sitting experience, that was saying something.

The young vamp moved restlessly around the room, angry at having to waste time on this worthless human girl. Why didn’t Kalith or Ri just kill her? It would be so much easier, then she could go out and find a nice supper. Dejectedly she sat down on a nearby crate, right beside Buffy and began to file her nails with a long, silver file. If Kalith gave orders that she was not to be harmed, no matter how stupid those orders were, you followed them, unless you wanted to fit in an ash tray by sun-up. Intent on her hands, she didn’t pay the slightest attention to the sounds coming from the rest of the warehouse.

The two older blood suckers, on the other hand, were deeply interested in the fight occurring out of sight. Every time there was a shout or a crash, they would jerk and start towards the door, then remember what they were supposed to be doing and return to their places as watch dogs. They were of the same opinion as the girl. Buffy watched them quietly, sensing their mood and wondering how she could use it to her own advantage.

Suddenly, a blood-curdling scream rang out through the building. Buffy didn’t recognize the voice, but the others obviously did. They stood, even the girl and stared for a second at the door, unsure of what to do, obviously shaken. Buffy thought to herself, feeling slightly better with the knowledge that it at least wasn’t Angel. The vampires seemed to sway on their feet, wavering between their orders to guard Buffy and their natural instinct to kill. Finally the eldest snapped to a decision. “Stay here!” he snapped at the youngest demon. Quickly he and his companion wrenched open the door and raced away.

The girl stood and stared at the doorway for a second, then returned to her perch on the box and continued to file her nails. She also returned to whatever she was thinking about. In fact, Buffy realized, she was so deeply in thought, she probably wouldn’t notice the small sounds of a chair inching it’s way towards her.

Slowly a bold, predatory grin spread across Buffy’s face and she could feel her teeth elongate into fangs.

She wouldn’t notice at all.
