Buffy The Vampire Slayer > BTVS - Season One
Gone 2: Rome by Bria

Buffy, Angel and any other characters featured on Buffy the Vampire Slayer do not belong to me. They were created by Joss Whedon and belong to him.

All other charachters and the plot belong to me, so please don't copy. Any feedback is welcome. This is my first fanfic, so please be understanding.

I have taken the story "Gone", created by Anya, and switched Buffy and Willow's places, so Buffy and Angel are together. I hope she understands.

I just couldn't bear to see those two apart. When I watched the season finale, I got an ulcer! Anyway, read on and enjoy!

Part Two

SURPRISES

The church bells rang through the ancient city, tolling out the centuries. A mixture of past and future, old and new, Rome was always moving, but there was a kind of peace to the bustle that was seldom found anywhere else.

Angel looked out onto the darkly lit piazza from the balcony attached to the spacious apartment. It certainly paid to have connections. Within a matter of days Angel had pulled in enough favors to get them the quiet, out of the way apartment full of clothing, a generous supply of blood and a large enough amount of money that they shouldn’t have to worry about finances for a long time. Which left Angel free to concentrate on healing Buffy, in mind and soul at least.

The handsome vampire pushed away from the railing where he’d been leaning and entered Buffy’s room. The shades were still pulled down from the day and Buffy was sound asleep, even though it was already dark.

Angel thought as he sat gently on the edge of the bed.

He ran the back of his hand lightly over her smooth cheek, pushing back some strands of stray hair. Lovingly he traced his fingers over her neck and her bare shoulder. He barely stroked her silky hair and ran an index finger down the edge of her jaw. Running his thumb over the bridge of her nose, Angel continued to gently caress her face until she stirred and woke. Blinking her eyes sleepily, she stared up at him without saying anything. For the moment, her face was totally innocent and naive, reminding him of a helpless baby kitten. Angel smiled slightly and leaned down to brush his lips lightly against her forehead. “ Morning, little one. How are you feeling?”

Buffy shrugged and shifted slightly under the light sheets. “ Okay, I guess. Not ‘happily ever after’ but I’m feeling the ‘ I’m not going to stake myself’ okay, at least, not today.”

Angel chuckled gently, relieved that she could still crack her usual sarcastic remarks, even if they weren’t very funny.

“ C’mon,” he said, rising. “ Get out of bed and get dressed. We’re going out.”

“ No,” Buffy said, pushing herself up on her elbows. “ I don’t want to, Angel. . . I still feel really weak,” she lied.

He wasn’t fooled for a second. Reaching the doorway, he turned and spoke to her as if she were a reluctant child, “ You’ve never felt better, and you know it as well as I do. You can’t hide away here forever, Buffy, and today’s as good a day to discover Rome as any. Now, hurry up, I’m waiting.” With that, he turned and shut the door, leaving her to dress in private.

After a moment Buffy sighed and slowly pulled herself into a sitting position. From the tone of his voice, Buffy could tell that there would be no arguing with him and besides, she just didn’t have the energy for verbal sparring. She stood and stretched, then turned back to her bed with what might have been, had she not been changed, a hint of malicious humor in her eyes. She might have to listen to him, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t take her own sweet time. Slowly, Buffy began to make her bed.

Once she was finished that, she stepped into the bathroom and took a hot shower and brushed her teeth. She toweled herself off, then regarded the ghost that was her reflection. Before, her body would have taken at least a week and a half to recuperate, even with her Slayer ability. Now though, combined with a vampire’s ability to heal any wound, there was no sign of the brutality the Anointed One had inflicted on her. In fact, she knew she had never looked better. Her skin was alabaster white, flawless and smooth. All her muscles were taught and sculpted and flowed smoothly from one movement to the next. Dark blonde hair framed an alluring face, on which was set a slightly pointed nose and kissable lips. Only her eyes reflected the torture she’d been through the past two weeks.

With a sigh Buffy turned to the closet and regarded all her clothing selections. Whoever had chosen the wardrobe certainly knew what they were doing. Even Cordelia didn’t have nicer clothes. Buffy slammed the thought out of her mind as soon as it had entered.

In the end, Buffy decided on a short white dress with thin straps, along with a pair of brown sandals. She didn’t feel like dressing up too much or going anywhere where you needed to dress up, for that matter. Buffy left her hair down so it covered her neck. Understandably, the neck was not her favorite body part at the moment. She didn’t bother with a cross. While it did her no harm, the crossed she had brought with her had a special meaning to her and she didn’t want any reminders of her former life, not yet.

Finally finished, she stepped silently out into the living room. Angel was seated at the table, facing away from her, his left foot tapping impatiently. Buffy stepped out of the shadows, unsure of what to do. It was the first time she’d seen Angel show a physical sign of impatience. When he still didn’t notice her, she hesitantly cleared her throat.

Angel stood and spun to face her. “ Finally! What took. . . uh. . .” The words flew out of his mind as he stared, mouth slightly open, enraptured by the exquisite girl before him. he subconsciously reminded himself, Angel suddenly realized that the young, reckless girl he’d first met no longer existed and in her place was an intriguing, desirable woman. Whether Buffy had changed before or after she had been turned into a vampire, he wasn’t quite sure, but he was certain that Buffy herself had no idea how different she was. For the first time ever, Angel didn’t blame Xander for loving Buffy.

Angel swallowed, regaining his composure and closing his mouth ( which had become to look quite foolish. ) “ If you’re ready, we can go now.”

Buffy smiled slightly at him, “ I’m ready, if you are. Where are we going?”

Angel opened the door and gently guided her through with a light touch on her back. “It’s a surprise,” he said mysteriously.

Buffy grinned. “ I like surprises.”
