"Did she say why she was going to England?" Giles questioned.
"No. She said she couldn't tell us," Oz answered.
"Why is she being so secretive?" Xander asked.
"I don't know, but it must be important for her not to tell us," stated Giles.
"Or she just doesn't trust us anymore," returned Willow.
"Maybe it's one of those life or death thingies," suggested Cordelia.
"It's always has to do with life or death," Angel pointed out.
"This isn't getting us anywhere. The only person who has the answers has left for England. And for us to get those answers..." Giles trailed off.
"Is for us to follow her there," finished Xander.
"Then it's off to England we go," Oz said.

"We cannot do anything about this balance?"
"No, not unless you can give me back my immortality and get Alex his powers. There is no way."
"How would we be able to get his powers back?"
"You'd have to plead with the high powers to give them back to me, but they won't because I am being punished."
"So to punish you, the high powers will destroy the world?"
"Yup! That about sums it up."
"So all we can do is wait?"
"All you can do is wait. I have to find the balance."
"How will you do that?"
"Go to the source of my powers."
"The old ones?"
"Yeah."
"But they'll kill you."
"They can try."
"Be careful child."
"Careful's my middle name."

"What do you mean she's not here?" Giles demanded.
"The child has left," responded the elder man.
"Where has she gone?"
"That I cannot tell you. For you will follow."
"Why can't I follow?"
"For you to follow, you will die in vain. Your death will do the world no good."
"And a slayer's death will?"
"She goes to restore the balance... something that has become her responsibility. She risks her life, not in vain, but for a cause. It is her destiny."
"How can one girl have so much destiny?" Cordy interrupted.
They looked at her.
"What? It was a simple question," she defended.
"The child is the chosen one. The world's greatest asset. She gives her life to restore the balance as was written."
"Where?" inquired Giles.
"The book."
Giles looked astonished. Everything came into perspective at that moment.
"Thank you for your assistance," the watcher said quietly.
"Be proud, you have raised the greatest hero in history."
"Yes... umm.. thank you. Good day," he stuttered out and left quietly.
The rest of the gang followed.
"How does him saying 'the book' answer all your questions? What is 'the book'?" Xander asked.
"The book is the most sacred compilation of prophecies known in history. For the elder man to mention the book, that means that what Buffy has gone to do was foretold and cannot be stopped."
"But what has she gone to do?" Willow asked.
"From the way the elder man was talking, the only place she could have gone was to see the old ones."
"The old ones?" everyone asked.
"They are the source of Buffy's slayer powers and of all the slayers before her. They control the fate of all slayers."
"But why would going to them be life threatening?" Cordy asked.
"The old ones do not liked to be interrupted."
"From what?" Oz asked.
"From sleep."

~ Who dares disturb us? ~
"It's me? Buffy Summers. The slayer that you refuse to neglect."
~ Why have you come? ~
"I need help."
~ We do not offer assistance. We control fate. ~
"Well then fix mine."
~ You were fated to be the keeper of the balance. What have you done to disrupt fate? ~
"I refused to take my best friend's child away from her."
~ To put your destiny and the child's back on course, you must give the child his powers. ~
"How am I suppose to do that? I don't have the powers anymore."
~ There you are wrong. The powers are within you. They always have been. You have yet to discover them though. ~
"But the other old one took them from me," she explained.
~ They did not. ~
"But I don't want to take Alex away from Willow. She loves him."
~ The child was born only to protect the world. No other reason. If he does not fulfil his destiny, then another will that his place. ~
"So there's no alternative?" she asked with a glimmer of hope.
~ None. ~
"Great. You've been a big help," Buffy said sarcastically.
~ Everyone was put on earth for a purpose. And like you everyone must do what they are destined to do... even if they dislike the task. ~
"Yeah, I know. I've excepted that already."
~ Then why refuse to take the child? ~
"Because she's my closet friend. I would never do anything to harm her."
~ Not taking the child was cause more harm. ~
"That doesn't matter."
~ You care much for your friend? ~
"Yeah. She's been with me through everything. She comforted and loved me."
~ As she was destined to do. ~
"Yeah well, she did a good job of it. Why punish her for it?"
~ This was not done to punish her. ~
"Then why?"
~ It was done to protect her. ~
"How?"
~ You shall see. ~
"Thanks for the help."
~ You have risked a lot to come to us, for that we shall grant you a gift. ~
"Why?"
~ Because few people come to us for fear of their life. ~
"But don't they have to fear?"
~ Yes, but sometimes we would like the company. ~
"Oh, okay. Then I guess I'll talk to you later."
~ As long as we're not asleep when you arrive, we will greet you cordially. ~
"Bye!"
~ A gift to you... May you fulfil your destiny to its fullest. ~
