It would still take awhile to gather all the required equipment. The rose quartz was the most important piece of all. Angel started to spend more time with Buffy than ever. Darla grew impatient, not to mention really jealous. She wished for Angel's return more than ever.
"Those pathetic mortals will never find the right piece of quartz!" Darla complained to the Master.
"They will. And when they do, we'll be ready." Darla nodded and walked out.

Two days later, Giles finally found a suitable piece of quartz. They were ready. Angel was getting uneasy, he was uncertain if it would work. He worried that there could be a possibility where he could turn back into what he was a century ago. Buffy assured him and brought him to Giles. Willow and Xander attended for the historical moment. Willow wanted to see the happy get-together of Angel and Buffy. She was all gooey for the high romantic moment of it. Xander wasn't there because he wanted to. The last thing he wanted was for Buffy and Angel to be able to be together. Now that Angel was finally going to be devamperized, there was no hope ever for Xander to be with Buffy. He sighed.
Giles and Buffy set up everything according to Michelle's theorem. Angel shifted uncomfortably in the chair Buffy commanded him in. He had a sense of foreboding about this.
Meanwhile, Darla arranged outside with eight of the best vampires. She realized that the occupants inside were waiting for the sun to rise.
"Damn!" she cursed and motioned the eight to a more sheltered position.

The first beam of light hit the rose quartz and it scattered the ray just a foot away from Angel. He looked even more uncomfortable than ever.
"Hold still Angel. I can't promise you that it wouldn't hurt. But if you really want to do this, hold still!" Buffy instructed. Angel tried to best to sit still.
The sun rose higher and higher above the horizon, more light got scattered by the quartz, none has hit Angel. Just then, a red beam shot itself straight at Angel's left arm. He cried out in pain as it began to burn him. Doubt began to seep into Buffy's mind.
"What if it doesn't work? What will happen to Angel?" she asked Giles.
"Like any vampire that gets caught in the sun." Giles replies. A large beam hit Angel on his abdomen, he howled in pain. Buffy instinctively ran toward Angel. Xander held her back.
"I have to help him, this isn't working!" Xander didn't replied, he just held her.
Eventually, Angel was completely covered with the red light. Interestingly, it stopped burning him and held him there for a moment longer before releasing him. Angel fell to the ground unconscious. Xander finally let go.
Buffy ran to Angel and held him in her arms. He appeared to be alive. After a couple of minutes, Angel finally woke up.
"What happened?" he asked groggily. Buffy helped him up.
"Did it work?" Buffy asked. Angel shook his head, trying to clear it. After he has completely regained his composure, Buffy repeated the question.
"I'm not sure." Angel replied.
"Well, there's one way to find out." Buffy pointed towards the door where sunlight has managed to seep through. She opened it. Angel cowered away from it at first, but got accustomed to it. He slowly stepped outside.
Nothing happened.
Angel smiled, "I guess it worked."
"This is a historic moment! Away with the stakes and welcome rose quartz!" Willow cried out. Angel smiled at the sun, the sun he hasn't seen for over 240 years. Oh how he has missed it! Angel turned to Buffy and grabbed her in for a kiss.
"Thank you!" he said breathlessly after he released her. "You know what? I think I'm a bit hungry." Buffy giggled. Things are finally normal.

Darla retreated back to the cavern after realizing that there was no way to grab Angel without getting burnt by the sun.
"How could you fail me!" The Master cried out.
"There wasn't any way to get Angel. He was in the sun the whole time." TAO stepped up.
"That is understandable, but we must get Angel at all costs." he spoke and then turned back to throwing rocks at a pool of blood. Darla turned back to her men and snapped her fingers.
"Let's go."

Angel and Buffy were at the Bronze that very night. They celebrated their victory with a slow dance and some kissing.
"This feels wonderful." Angel said after sipping a coke. "How'd they get the bubble into these things anyways?" Buffy giggled. Angel has never tasted sodas before. The only drink that interested him before was the thick red kind.
Buffy smiled at Angel, enjoying his company. Willow was there but Xander was nowhere to be seen. But Buffy didn't notice.
A scream from the back of the room drew everyone's attention. Darla.
"Darla? How..." Angel started but never finished. Everyone started to scream and panicked out of the Bronze. Darla and her vampire friends stormed in. She pointed at the slayer and the vamps scampered to her. Angel suddenly realized something he didn't want to realize before. Now that he was human again, he didn't have the incredible strength he had when he was a vampire. He was strong for a human, but no match for a vampire. He could only watch as Buffy took out her faithful stake and start stabbing. Angel tried to grabbed a vampire off a girl but only succeeded in landing painfully on top of a table across the room.
"Not the girl you idiots! Angel, get Angel!" Darla cried out. Two vampires grabbed Angel, there wasn't any way to struggle out of their grasp. Buffy had her hands full and couldn't help him. She could only watch as he was carried out. Buffy staked the last of them and ran out, looking for Angel. He was nowhere to be seen. Willow ran out after her.
"What? Where?" Willow jumbled.
"They took him. They took Angel." Buffy whispered.

Back at the lair, Angel was tied up in a chair while Darla stood opposite him.
"Hello sweetie. So glad you could make it." she grinned.
"What do you want?"
"Rather pointless question isn't it Angelis? We want you back." Darla drawled.
"You can't have me." Darla let out a shrill laugh.
"We already have." Darla walked around him and sat down opposite him. "You see, our previous attempts to bring you back has failed due to the fact your conscience got in the way. Now that you have become human again, I can retake you, this time minus the soul part." Darla smiled sweetly at Angel as realization sunk in. Angel could only stare at her in horror.
"You can't do this. I refuse to become a monster again!" Angel cried out.
"Refusal is pointless and resistance would only result in pain."
The Master walked in.
"Angel! My best... was my best. But now you shall reign again!" Angel glared at the Master with disgust in his eyes. There was nothing he could do. His future was inevitable, he will become that violent vicious monster again. TAO sauntered in and smiled at Angel. Such a small child and yet his heart was consumed by evil.
"Welcome back Angelis." TAO said. Darla closed in and released his bonds. She held him tight in her arms. Angel tried to struggle, but her superior strength held him at bay. Darla tilted his neck and bit in. Angel winced in pain as his blood was drawn out.
Darla pulled back, licking her lips. "I've forgotten how wonderful your blood tasted. It is still as sweet as the first time I took you." Angel could barely hear her. Something warm and thick met his lips and he sucks it in with all his worth. "Good." he heard a voice whispered as the darkness took him.
* * *
Buffy couldn't concentrate. All she could think about was where Angel was, and whether he was okay or not. She knew that Darla has him, which wasn't exactly the best place for him to be. Angel has only lived one day as a human, now...
"Buffy. Buffy!" Willow cried into her ear during lunch.
"Huh? What?"
"What's with you?"
"I'm worried about Angel." Buffy said with a concern look on her face.
"All of us are. We just have to wait and see what happens. Oh, I was so hoping that you guys would be together. Now you can get wrinkly and old together and the children..." Willow stopped abruptly when she noticed that Buffy was glaring at her. "Sorry."
"I want to do something about this. But there isn't anything I could do. I don't where Angel is, what happened to him."
"Angel's a big boy, he can take care of himself." Buffy looked up at the new voice. Xander.
"Yeah but he doesn't have his vampire strength anymore. He's as vulnerable as any of you." Buffy frowned. This was bad, very bad.
