The Meaning of Forgiveness
I apologize, this one is also short, they all are, but I haven't much time, and they get better.
PREVIOUSLY ON BUFFY
-The exhausted gang pulled into Arizona
-While at a rest stop diner, Buffy and Giles get into an argument about the fact that Giles doesn't remember her relationship with Spike.
-While alone in the van, Buffy and Oz begin to converse and then share a kiss. Just then Willow comes back to the van to discover them.
"Will! Come on! Please come back and let me explain!"
"Why, Buffy? So you can tell me why you want to do my boyfriend?"
"Willow, I don't want to do your boyfriend. I want you to get your ass over here so I can explain to you what happened inside the van before you came."
"What? What happened inside the van before you realized you want Oz?"
"Willow Rosenberg! I don't want Oz! And even if I did, I would make no move whatsoever because I know it would kill you!"
"Then what the hell happened back there, Buffy? You don't kiss someone for no reason."
"Willow, you went in to get coffee. Oz decided to bring up a conversation. I mentioned that I died, and you know what he said about when you brought me back? All he could do was try to back you up and make sure I didn't make you look bad."
"And then you decided to..."
"Talk about when we all started singing and dancing. He said he didn't understand, so I explained."
"Then what? I want to know whether to blame you, Oz, or both of you."
"Then, this will come as a shock, he told me he wanted to be an actor. That's right. He told me he wanted to be an ACTOR. He said he didn't want to tell you, he wanted to surprise you."
"Well, he sure did that. What di you tell him? You could get him an agent if he makes out with you? What did you tell him?"
"I told him not to do it. He was too cool and too sinister."
"Yeah, keep going."
"This next part leads up to this kiss, just as a heads up. He told me he realized, yes he was sinister. I said that you couldn't be upset around him because he gave off a feel good, satisfied with life vibe. He said he'd take that as a good thing, and I said yes. And that he was lucky to have someone, especially you. He told me I'd find someone sooner or later. And then I talked about how I was taking relationship advice from him..."
"Are you almost done wasting my time?"
"I thought you wanted to know what went down? Any way, he replied by saying he was smart. I agreed. He said it didn't show. I said it did. He said not to flatter him, so I didn't. I kissed him."
"Buffy. right, so I do have you to blame."
"Willow, don't think about it like that. It was the heat of the moment, I swear. I got caught up because we were being so open with each other. Please, just don't nlame him for anything."
"I definately won't."
"Willow, please. Don't you know the meaning of forgiveness?"
"Not anymore, no."
"Forgiveness. You look at someone who did a horrible thing and you decide that it isn't important because you know it will never happen again."
"Are you sure? Are you sure I should forgive you?"
"Yes, Willow, we go back to high school, and never have I done anything to hurt you like this. That's because it wasn't meant to happen, this kiss. That's because you're my best friend, Will. That's because I can't stand living without my best friend." A stream of tears ran down Buffy's face. "Willow, I love you like you're my sister."
"Buffy, I want to forgive you so bad, but you just have to give me time to think about it."
"Fine, that... that's prfectly reasonable."
"I'm going back to the van. I'll keep an eye on Dawn."
"I'm going for a walk."
"Have fun."
"You too........ Willow, I love you."
"I love you too, Buffy."
Willow slowly walked back to the van. "Oz. I... Buffy made me realize that you didn't do anything, that I have no reason to be mad at you."
"Willow, really, it was spurr of the moment."
"Yeah, yeah, I know. It doesn't matter anymore, baby. We'll just act like nothing ever happened."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. We're all kind of wound up and tired and stressed. It... we can just act like nothing happened. Nothing. I came back to the van, gave you your coffee and Buffy went for a walk." Willow and Oz now shared a passionate kiss.
"Eww. Willow, if you kiss Oz, and Buffy just kissed him, it's like you just kissed Buffy."
"Dawny, Buffy never kissed Oz."
"Yeah, right. I think I'm going to talk to Giles inside."
"Be careful, he isn't entirly safe." Willow waited until Dawn was out of the van. "We're alone now."
"We are."
"We can talk, now. About anything that might be bothering us. You. Any ambitions?"
"Like what?"
"Well, you were already into the artss, maybe a different kind..."
"Oh, God. Buffy told you, then?"
"Yeah, I made her give me a total recap, and she seemed to think that was important. But then she convinced you not to?"
"Yeah, she helped me teach myself that I'm sinister."
"So, you have no feelings for her, at all?"
"Willow, you're the only one in my heart."
But now that he and Buffy kissed, he saw her in a whole new light. Was there Buffy potential? If anything ever savaged his and Willow's relationship, was there any way he would hook up with Buffy?
No, no. He loved Willow, and that's all. He was only thinking about Buffy because she kissed him. She didn't even mean to. It never happened....it never happened....
Buffy walked down the dusty street. It was very hot outside. She couldn't get her mind off of how she just killed her friend on the inside, how she would never forgive her. She just hoped that she could remember the meaning of forgiveness.
She also hoped very much that Willow wouldn'y leave Oz, not after he'd made the mistake twice. Once with Veruca, once with her. But, no. Veruca was different.
Buffy looked in differing stores, looking for a clock. Dawn, she needed to get back to Dawn. What if Willow was trying to turn Dawn against Buffy? Would she really do something like that?
She turned around, the van wasn't in sight. She guessed she was gone longer than she thought. She wondered were Xander and Andrew back yet? Did they know?
She walked face down the rest of the way to the van and climbed inside. Man, everyday life was starting to get to her. She'd forgotten that although the life of the slayer was a lot like another's, it was also quite different. Kissing your best friend's boyfriend was a lot harder in the real world, because you didn't have Slaying on your mind to keep you busy.
"Will, can we talk outside for a minute?"
"Sure, Buffy." The girls leaned up againat the wall of the diner. "What's up?"
"I just.... I need you to know that I meant no harm to you, and I never intended to kiss him, and it will never happen again. And I need to know if you hate me."
"Buffy, Oz and I have decided to act like it never happened. I know you didn't mean anything by it. I love you, you're my best friend, And no, Xander and Andrew don't know."
"How'd you know I was going to ask?"
"I guessed."
"Yeah. Xander... he'd be worse than you, he'd never forgive me."
"Yeah. Let's go back in the van."
Buffy and Willow went inside and played a game with Dawn to pass the time. "Inky binky bonky anyone?" asked Dawn.
"Ooh, I'm inky binky bonkied out."
"Me, too, Dawny, maybe something else? They sure have been gone a long time."
At that, Andrew and Xander stepped into the van. "What's the hap? Anything intersting happen?" asked Xander.
"Well, Buffy...."
"Dawny, Buffy was with me the whole time since Oz and I got back. I assure you, she didn't do anything."
"Yeah, right. Nothing interesting here. Check out any cool shops?"
"There's this little shop around the corner. Me and Andrew got free 35mm film."
"Oh,. yeah! I got film. Me too!"
"Dawn! Didn't I tell you to stay on this street?"
"Buffy, it was only the second shop on the other street. I swear you could see me from the diner."
"Dawn, you disob...."
"Buffy, it's okay. Oz and I were right across the street, we could see her. She was fine, honest."
"Oh, okay."
"Ooh, man, we beeter head off, it's getting late."
"What are you talking about? It's like 1 or 2 p.m."
"We gotta make good time, or he'll go crazy. Won't you dumpling?"
"Actually, I have an announcement to make. I'm no longer a werewolf."
"What, but you said it yourself, you said you were. Yesterday, you said."
"Willow, I wanted it to be a surprise."
"You sure surprised me. How long have you been normal?"
"A little more than a year."
"A year? And you didn't bother to come back and tell me? It seems you act like you didn't care if you'd ever see me again. I can't believe you. You were so disrespectful."
"Willow, I wasn't sure if I was ready to face you, after I left you twice."
"I don't care about that, Oz. I've been thinking about you since you left."
"And, I didn't come because of Tara, you seemed pretty happy with her."
"Tara's dead, Oz. She's gone. And, if you would've been there, eveything would've been okay. I wouldn't have killed Warren."
"You killed a man?"
"It wasn't my fault, I was evil."
"But, you never bothered to tell me? You never told me you you kiled a man."
"Hey, atleast you're even."
"Dawn, honey, now isn't the time."
"Why not? Why is it never the time? What is wrong with all of us? Everyone hates each other."
"Dawn, no one hates anyone."
"I think we should all spend some time apart."
"Dawn, I think that's a good idea. Why don't we go our separate ways till sunset? Clear our minds?"
"Fine."
Everyone stimbled out of the van and took a different path to their alone time. Willow taking a left at the diner, Buffy a right. Dawn heading across the street, Andrew and Xander to different corners. Oz went inside the diner and took a seat by Giles. "So, Giles, how've you been?"
"Tired. Hungry. These chaps won't bring any food to me, I thought that was what this was all about, this diner thing."
"Why don't I go get us a menu?" Oz left, and then returned with a large piece of paper with MENU written across the top in big black letters. "So, you've been in here the whole time. Aren't you kind of bored?"
"Well, of cousre, there is nothing in this dread town. When are we leaving?"
"Tonight. Everyone's kind of going their own way right now. We all kind of got into an argument."
"What about?"
"Well, I didn't tell Willow and the gang until now that I have been non werewolf..."
"Bloody hell!"
"For over a year now. Willow kind of got upset, then Dawn got into it. And plus Willow and Buffy kind of had an argument earlier."
"Topics?"
"Confidential. We all promised we'd put it behind us."
"Bore."
"Yeah, well, I'm gonna go walk around. Here's ten bucks, get something to eat. You can hang in the van if you want. Don't bother to steal it though, I got the keys."
Oz casually walked out of te diner and around the corner, mistakingly taking the same route as Buffy. He walked, face down, for a while. He accidentally bumped itno someone. "Oh, sorry... Buffy?"
"Oz, hi. I didn't know you were coming this way. Look, if you want, I can go back the other way."
"No, it's okay."
"Oz, you aren't going to break up with Willow, are you? I mean, she loves, you she really does."
"I don't want to leave Willow, but right now, I'd say it's really her decision."
"Maybe you should buy her some... you know flowers, a card, chocolate, eye of newt. She like it when people give her stuff."
"Yeah." Oz started to walk away.
"Oz, wait. This might sound crazy, it is crazy. You're with my best friend. But I can't keep it inside me, Willow'll find out, and she'll get pissed."
"Please don't say you..."
"I have feelings for you, now."
"Buffy, no, you can't."
"I know, but it's like.... I can't help it."
"Buffy no."
"Oz."
"No."
"Kiss me."
"I'll kiss you." Although they both knew it was wrong, Buffy and Oz kissed once more, more intimate and passionate than before. "No, Buffy, no." Oz ran away. At first Buffy didn't understand. Did she do something wrong? Was she a bad kisser? No. No. She knew she couldn't do it again, she couldn't kiss Oz again, and Willow couldn't find out again.
