Drusilla was quickly getting bored. As the stars came out, she sat and drummed her long French-tipped nails on the oak desk she was sitting at.
Spike stood in the main room of the mansion. He remembered the last time he had been in that room. Acathla had stood where he was standing now and as the sun had risen, Angel had been fighting out in the courtyard garden with Buffy
Even now, Spike didn't like to think about how he'd helped her. He put it down to his weak physical state and his jealousy over the fact that Dru was flirting with Angel. It had been a moment of weakness. One he compared to one a foolish mortal may experience.
This made him feel better about it.
Buffy and the others approached the mansion silently from all angles. Xander, Cordelia and Whistler walked up to the front door while Giles, Willow and Oz waited around in the front garden. Buffy, Angel and Amara had decided to approach from the back.
From their separate positions around the mansion, the three groups couldn't help but notice the strangeness of their surroundings. The moon was high and it seemed to cast an almost eerie glow across the grounds of the mansion
The way the large structure was almost completely silhouetted by the near full moon reminded Buffy in particular, of a fairy tale that she had read long ago, and since tucked away into the darkest corners of her mind
Deep down, she suspected that this night would be like that children's story. She and Angel would be the heroes who would fight a great evil. Anastasia, of course, would be the evil and Amara would be like the character that rides into town at the end and saves the day when it looks like all has been lost. The only thing that made their situation different from one in a children's fairy tale of course, was the fact that this was really happening and it may not be good that would triumph over evil.
Anastasia could also see the moon from her hiding place in one of the highest parts of the mansion where she watched as the three groups approached
She sat in a tall-backed, solid oak chair. Her hair was tied back simply, for she knew soon she would go into battle. A tight green shirt and black slacks hugged her young thin figure and she imagined that if she had been able to see herself in the mirror, she would have looked incredible.
She chuckled and thought to herself how clever they must have felt for splitting up. She could hardly believe that they actually thought that they could outsmart her. Surely, after years of caring for her, Amara didn't think that she was that stupid.
At that moment, Drusilla and Spike entered the room and she turned to face them. There was no light in the room but still Anastasia could make out their ghostly white faces and Spike's milky white hair.
"Spike, three of Buffy's little friends are outside in the garden, go and take care of them will you. Drusilla, you take the other three. They are out the front as well. Leave Amara to me
This couldn't be any easier for the both of you so make sure they don't see you until it's too late. It's important that we succeed tonight. I won't have my future jeopardised any more by that troublesome 'Miss Goodie-two-shoes'. Heaven knows she's done it long enough." Her voice was hard and stony and Spike couldn't help but feel a bit annoyed about taking orders from someone who didn't look much older than seventeen. But before he could put her in her place, Drusilla had dragged him out of the room and was starting down the stairs.
Once he was out in the courtyard, Spike headed for Xander, Cordelia and Whistler. He figured that they would be the strongest group.
Drusilla could certainly hold her own, there was no doubt about that, but Spike always liked to make sure she had it easy when it came to fighting. He was supposed to be the male after all; he couldn't be having his lover do all the fighting.
