Angel returned with Whistler and Amara to Amara's house twenty minutes before sunrise. They boarded up the windows and then got ready to turn in for the day.
Oz and Willow had agreed to talk to Buffy and the rest of the gang at school that day but Angel knew that it was going to take a lot to get Buffy back on side.
Angel stood in front of the last unboarded window toying with the idea of staying out in the sun. But he realised that if he killed himself that day, then he'd never be able to apologise to Buffy
Amara came up behind him and slid her arms around his waist. He could feel her head leaning against his back and as they stood there, the sky started to lighten.
Whistler rushed up behind the pair, grabbing a piece of board from behind Amara and just as the first rays of sunlight sliced through the light blue blanket of sky, Whistler finished nailing the board to the window.
Buffy stared at her reflection in the mirror for a long time. She had huge black rings under her eyes and her face was all blotchy from crying. Even though she was mad at Angel for a good reason, she still couldn't help crying. Just the thought of him not speaking to her made her burst into tears.
She had a long hot shower and went to her wardrobe to pick out an outfit for school. In the end, she decided on a knee-length red dress and matching shoes. She ran a comb through her hair and without much enthusiasm, managed to put it in a messy bun and as she left her room, she picked up her silver crucifix and fastened it around her neck.
Downstairs, Joyce Summers was concerned. Her daughter went out and fought every night and she never seemed to shed a tear over it. But if Angel even so much as looked at her the wrong way, she was a mess. She just never knew what to say to her daughter at times like these. After thinking about it for a long time, she came to one conclusion.
Teenagers, she thought, they'll never make sense.
The library smelt strongly of coffee when she walked in later that morning and Buffy suspected that Giles had been up all night researching.
Xander and Cordy were looking idly through books and when Buffy came and sat down next to them, they didn't even bother to look up. She suspected that Giles was in a bad mood and had had a stern talk to the both of them about the events of the previous evening.
At that moment, Giles walked out of his office and upon seeing Buffy a frown spread across his face.
"Buffy, perhaps I should see you in my office?" He said Buffy got to her feet and followed Giles into his tiny office.
When he had closed the door, Giles sat down. He slowly took off his glasses and thoughtfully rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"I've been here all night researching Amara and Anastasia. Buffy, she is a force that no one individual can fight. While Angel may be strong and Whistler may be knowledgeable, they still don't stand a chance against Anastasia. Amara on her own is the only one who can kill Anastasia but without a strong army, she won't be able to get to her to do it." "That's not my problem Giles," Buffy began. "I was lied to. I deserved to be told that Spike and Drusilla were in town; that they had something to do with Anastasia's resurrection..." "Buffy, don't you see?" Giles cut her off. "The reason Angel and Amara chose to keep the return of Drusilla and Spike a secret is because they knew that you had other reasons for disliking them and wanting them dead
I know that you still can't forget what Drusilla did to Kendra and I know it must have been terrible for you to have to find her; not to mention get blamed for her death. But eventually you're going to have to get past it
This isn't the first encounter you've had with them since her death.
Do you remember the Ghost roads? And I guarantee you this won't be the last time you'll see them. They seem to pop up everywhere
But if you let Angel, Whistler and Amara get killed by Spike and Drusilla, you'll never be able to forgive yourself. Until the day you die, you will hate yourself because you knew of the danger they were in and you did nothing." "Are you quite finished?" Buffy started again. "I know I have a grudge against Drusilla and I know I have to get over Kendra's death. I just hate being lied to
I also know that you're comparing my situation to you and Jenny. You knew she was in danger and yet you didn't do anything to stop it because you were mad at her...Giles, you have to realise that that wasn't your fault.
I'm sorry that I acted the way I did, letting my personal feelings for Angel get in the way of business, but I can't help the way I feel." She concluded and Giles, understanding where she was coming from, could only nod and remove his glasses once again.
After her talk with Giles, Buffy decided to get over the fact that Angel had been afraid to tell her about Spike and Drusilla and decided that she would find Amara, Angel and Whistler and help them.
After all, when it came down to it, she liked the thought of saving the world from evil yet again.
The sun sank behind the horizon and the first stars began to twinkle in the new night's sky.
Amara sat up a little groggily; she always hated waking up at sunset. She glanced around the room, stopping her gaze over the still-resting bodies of her partner, Whistler and her beloved Angel.
Getting to her feet, she slowly walked over to her dress shade and began to flick through her wardrobe.
Angel's eyes flickered open and at first, he had no idea where he was. He tipped his head to the side and saw Amara's empty bed. Then he heard a voice humming over in the other corner of the room and tilting his head to the other side, saw Amara's shadow dancing across the smooth surface of her dressing shade
He smiled. He was glad to see her again after so many years. For as he continued to think of the good times they'd had together, the bad times disappeared from his memory.
When she emerged, Amara was happy to see that her friend was up and ready to go.
As usual she looked stunning; dressed in a black pair of slacks and a purple fitted shirt, both of which showed off her excellent figure.
Whistler was the last to wake up. It took his eyes a moment longer to adjust to the darkness. It wasn't often that he slept during the day. He, in fact, only did it because when he was out in the sunlight he seemed to burn. His skin seemed to go a dark red and he already dressed badly enough, he didn't need bad skin to match.
Amara came over to Whistler and after helping him to his feet, she escorted him and Angel to the dining room where a large feast awaited them.
When in the dinning room, Whistler called the other two to attention. He produced a long sword from under the table and he saw Amara smile.
"You found it." She said, relieved.
The long sword shone in the candle light that filled the dining room. It was pure silver and quite heavy. The blade was razor sharp and the handle was engraved with hundreds of little symbols that were decorated with emeralds, rubies and sapphires. On the top of the handle the letter 'A' was engraved.
"The only sword that can slay Anastasia." Whistler said proudly
"It took me forever to find. The last time she walked outside the tomb, she stole it and hid it." He seemed to be speaking to Angel now
"Only Amara can use it, for any other mortal or demon it is only a sword but when Amara uses it, it is filled with magick.
"Convenient." Angel replied
"I guess we'll have to go out hunting so Amara can use her magick sword."
