Amara by Barbie Taylor

Whistler rounded the corner of the street that ran alongside the cemetery. Amara couldn't be far away. He had dreamt that she was in more trouble than she could handle. Of course, Angel and Buffy were there to back her up, but when it came down to it, they didn't know Anastasia well enough to be able to kill her.

Hearing rapidly approaching footsteps behind him, Whistler turned just in time to see Amara barrelling towards him. She threw him up against the metal fence that enclosed the graveyard

At first, he was a little worried but when he turned and saw Amara smiling, he knew she had just been kidding around.

Angel and Buffy walked along not far behind her and behind them, an army of Buffy's tired and sleepy friends walked, armed up to their eyeballs in weapons and crucifixes.

"Long time, no see." Buffy commented, as she stopped by Whistler's right side.

"Hey, if it isn't my prom date. So how are you Slayer?" Whistler asked.

"Well at the moment the angry mob and I are going to find Anastasia so we can drive stakes through her heart. Why are you in town?" "I'm here first, to tell you that that's not a good idea. Your angry mob plan, I mean. The sun rises in two hours and since three of the strongest members of your team don't work well with sunlight, I suggest that we hold off until sun down tomorrow." "Well." Buffy replied

"That's all well and good to say now but what if something happens before then?" "It won't. I've just been up on the hill at Angel's mansion and your demon and her posse are hangin' around up there waiting for you and Angel to unsuspectingly walk in so they can rip out your hearts and eat them for breakfast." Whistler said in a reassuring voice.

"That is one of the most disgusting things I've ever heard!" Cordelia piped up from the back of the group.

Angel stepped forward.

"How did you know where to find us?" Buffy was a little scared by the tone in Angel's voice but Whistler didn't seem fazed by it at all.

"I've been having some really whacked-out dreams. I knew Amara was bound to get herself into some kind of trouble with Drusilla and Spike here to back Anastasia up. So I thought I would come along and lend an extra pair of hands. You know, make sure my partner didn't meet the wrong end of the stake, so to speak." "Whoa there for just a second." Buffy said, a little confused and on the verge of pissed off

"What do you mean Drusilla and Spike are here to back Anastasia up? I wasn't told. Did anyone else know?" Angel, realising his secret was out in the open, came forward and told Buffy that he and Amara had suspected that Dru and Spike were the ones responsible for resurrecting Anastasia since the night they had visited the tomb. He showed Buffy the necklace they had found.

Before Buffy could speak, Xander came forward from the edge of the group.

"Damn it. That's what you get for trusting Dead Boy here. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm sick of all this shit. Every time we come to fight, he's the one who has to keep secrets or cause trouble. I'm too tired to put up with it anymore. I'm goin' home and hopefully you'll all find the common sense to do the same." He said angrily as he began storming off down the street with Cordelia in toe.

Usually Buffy would have defended Angel, but this time she saw where Xander was coming from. True, he had always hated Angel but this time he was right. Angel had kept one too many secrets.

"Perhaps Xander is right. Perhaps you don't need me on this one. I can't go and risk my life, fighting the forces of evil and not be told the truth about what's going on." Abruptly, Buffy turned and walked away from the group. On her way, she took Giles by the arm and pulled him along with her.

All that was left now of the angry mob was Oz and Willow.

Willow turned to leave but Oz stood fast.

"Oz?" She asked in a questioning tone.

"I can't leave on this one, Will. I know I haven't been part of the Slayer club from the get go but I just feel the need to stay with Amara. It's as if we have this bond. She's a friend, you know. And friends don't leave friends to march off to certain death alone." Oz remarked, almost as if he wasn't quite sure of what he was saying.

"All right Oz." Willow sighed. "You usually do what's right so I'll stick around for this one with you."
